HI, what dose of DMSA are you on? and how are you taking it? A lot of people find their auto immune problems and other problems are exacerbated once they start chelating and the concern is, either the chelator itself, or the dose is too high and is moving too much mercury for that person to cope with. The key is to get on a dose that is low enough for you to tolerate and even if you do get an aggravation of symptoms, to have it at a level that is not beyond your endurance. DMSA will be moving mercury in the very areas where it's causing you problems. If mercury is responsible for hte connective tissue problem, it will worsen with chelation. But again, I am not a professional and have no right to take risks with your health. You can post your message/concern to this group (forum) http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation/Many people on there use DMSA and have all sorts of problems and will be able to provide you with better answers than me about your particular problem I'm sure. Some people simply do not tolerate DMSA and have to stop taking it, but much of the time, the DMSA is simply moving mercury and I believe personally this drug is FAR FAR more powerful than we are being lead to believe. Some have to use as little as 6 mg, as even then they can get symptoms that are beyond their coping skills. Some can't use it at all. One guy can't take 1 mg of the stuff and realises he's intolerant to the DMSA itself. He does fine on DMPS.

P.S. I don't know when you will show improvement, as everybody is different. You may need to do a lot more rounds of it before you start improving. A few months and you should notice something.

Hi, thanks for the help. I've been taking dmsa at 50 mg every 4 hours for 3 straight days. I don't wanna take the dose any lower because it's against Andy Cutlers recommendations based on my body weight (186 lbs) and I feel like I won't accomplish anything if I go any lower.
I've come to the conclusion that screwing up on the dose timing (which I did several times) has horrible results. The less I screw up on the doses the less problems I have. The worst case was when I missed a dose late at night, that really had bad consequences.

That's great if you can handle 50 mg, but don't push it. Many people, regardless of weight, cannot handle 50 mg at all and trying to do it has caused some bad reactions and some take a long time to recover. Better to start lower, and be able to keep chelating, than push it and get injured and end up not being able to do anything. (that's just my view).
Andy has been told this and I think he realises many have to start as low as 12.5 mg (even if their weight can handle 50 mg or more).
But if you can handle it? that's great, most can't.
Oh yeah, screwing up on the timing? That has done me in many times too. I would forget to take a dose and then I would just continue the round regardless and it's noe of the worst things you can do. Andy says If you miss a dose, stop the round completely and wait a few days before starting again or you will cause worse redistribution of mercury.
I've risked it regardless and paid for it big time. But I've done other things too (worse) that have really done me in, so now I can't do much at all (taking a garlic supplement and using lipoic acid when I shouldn't have).
anyway, hope you go well wtih the 50 mg. If you start feeling it's too much, beyond tolerance, don't think you won't make progress if you lessen the dose to 25 mg, many are doing very well on even less than that! So keep that in mind just in case you do feel it's too much.
