I got mine this morning, im going to start on 6mg every 4 hrs. A few questions to anyone who can help me: Do i take all the supps when chelating, like VitC, E& Selenium, Magnesium,,Zinc, Molybdem? Can i still take 6000mg of VitC a day or should i lower it? I know i can take Algin and probiotics. Also can anyone explain side effects while chelating during and coming off the round and how long do the effects last after the last dose. I have probably asked these questions before but i am an extremely paranoid person at the moment, i think my mercury levels are so high. Thanks.

I get unpredictable side effects now from anything I use, since ever using a garlic supplement, so it's hard for me to put across what you should expect.
But i can tell you in the past when using DMSA, mainly side effects consisted of feeling slowed down, tiredness, aching, foggy brain. OR, you can get hyped up, anxious, etc. Basically anything you already have can be aggravated, but sometimes it can improve things, so you won't know whether it will help symptoms or aggravate them.
Some people feeling worse on a round, others better. Some feel worse between rounds, etc. And sometimes different rounds are different, you could go well one round and then another round you could feel really bad. This is why it's good to stay at a very low dose until you have done about 4-5 rounds on that same dose beforre you even think about increasing it. As symptoms can hit later on.
I wish I coudl give you a clear cut answer. But 6 mg maybe a very good dose to start if you have a significant amount of mercury and/or you are highly sensitive and weak.
Also, you know if you find things too much, or symptoms growing during the roudn and it's becoming intolerable, you can just stop the round and leave things for a few days or so before trying again.
Also if you have bad effects after stopping the round, this can last from a few days or longer. IF it lasts longer than a couple of days, the dose is usually too high for you.

Dawn, I totally agree. I too have been on frequent dose chelation forum and for a long time and I come on this one, only been on it for a few months and I feel like I've been here for ages because of the warmth from other people, the feeling of being able to totally express oneself and be open.
People feel at home here for a good reason.

Hi Dawn,
Personally I would keep your supplements the same whilst taking DMSA especially the trace metals. Also the same with the Vit C, if it is working for you keep it the same, even more so whilst on a round as it’s important to get all the metals out and not reabsorb anything.
The side effects seem to differ wildly depending on the individual, both in timing and symptoms. But personally speaking, I get mental symptoms for the first 2 days on a round and sometimes get a slight reoccurrence roughly 6 hours after coming off a round for a short period (say 6 hours). I am testing lengthening rounds at the moment to avoid the start-up symptoms. But the periods while I am off a round are just fantastic, I can think clearer, have more energy etc.. ! I believe DMSA has been the turning point in my health (although I am having a bad time at the moment).
And yes I agree with you both that this is a much more friendly & welcoming group as compared to the Yahoo group. Good on ya everyone !
Cheers .. Karen

We are using dmsa and we use 1/8mg per pound, so 6mg is very low, and a good place to start. You can take all those supplements listed. Actually you may need more minerals, or a mineral support formula, unless you are taking more than listed here. Side effects might be fatigue (gee we are familiar with this one anyone), irritable, yeast problems, and some complain of aching. For us it was just the tired part which went away with higher doses of vitamin C. And your C looks good. And of course, yeast. Probiotics will help but you might want to add something that kills yeast like Grapefruit Seed Extract or Candidase. A symptom of yeast might be constipation, bloating, gas, etc. You really want to keep the bowels moving when you are on a round, so add in whatever helps this. Be careful not to take the algin at the same time as the anti yeast agent or the dmsa. You don't want it absorbing that. And anti yeast stuff should not be taken the same time as probiotics.
Side effects noted for us: Usually irritability with the first dose or two, after that it is gone, unless we forget to take our vitamins. We take our daily doses divided up into four doses throughout the day. Mainly we see yeast develop which causes constipation, or irritability. Just keep the bowels moving and fight the yeast. Sometimes the first day off is irritable too. The fatigue we noticed more so on the second day of dosing but not the first or last. I am sure things might be different from person to person, but this is what we saw with the two in our house on dmsa.

TO WHITEDOG/KAREN
Hope it's ok to ask; what doses of DMSA did you start off with and how long have you been using DMSA?

Dawn....
My ND recommends no B12, or MSM, (sulphur) or minerals while chelating, but he only recommends 100mg of DMSA every third day.
Best luck with the chelating, I started today too.
Sandi xoxo

Hi Anon,
Happy to answer any questions!
I started DMSA with a dose of 25mg, but dropped it to 12.5mg as my reactions were too strong. I am deciding whether to drop the dose more as the start up reactions are still very unpleasant. I have been using DMSA for about a month now.
Good health everyone !
Cheers.. Karen

Thank you Karen
I actually started DMSA only yesterday. Went with 5 mg every 4 hours and now after 24 hours I've had to stop. My liver and kidneys are just hurting way too much and that's always a warning sign to me that things are getting out of hand.
I've previously tried DMSA, but in a bit higher doses and the same thing happens just even sooner. I really feel all those who can handle DMSA are such lucky guys as I know this is the only "safe" chelator to use and vitamins will not do the job.

Hi Anon, you're not alone. I am having horrible problems chelating now and I'm not healing at all. I know I have other issues than mercury, but I don't know what I'm dealing with, so all I can do is try and detox the mercury and I cannot even do that.
I can't use 12.5 mg of DMSA, whereas I used to be able to use 50 mg of it every 4 hours when I was not this ill (before I had issues I have now).
I may be trying 6 mg soon, but I just don't know what to do. I hope you will be able to hammer away at the mercury with the small doses of DMSA and hope you will be able to go further than 24 hours at some point. Good idea to stop when you feel things are getting out of hand and not to push it longer.

Hi Sandi, i wish your ND would lower that dose. Thats a high dose to begin with. Anomynous says that 5mg over a day, thats 30mg, in a day, hurt her kidneys. I hope you will be OK, i honestly believe that any drug we take we should start out at low doses for the body to get used to it. I will probably start at 3mg, i know its low but if i have a reaction it wont take too long to recover. If i can tolerate DMSA, i will higher it slightly every now and then.

Yeah Bex, 12,5 was the dose I've previously periodically tried but became ill after just two or three doses. Candida, kidney pain, headache....the works.....would just flare up.
On a positive note, I did actually feel slightly clear-headed on the 5 mg dose, but then of course kidney pain set in and I had to stop.
What I'm now thinking is actually doing two rounds a week just consisting of 24 hours and 5 mg every 4 hour. I know this goes against the normal protocol, but at least I've had some DMSA in my system per week. Nothing else will shift the hg so I'm guessing a little is better than nothing. Time will tell if this just messes up my already bad situation.
ALA I'm not even contemplating yet, as this has previously made me feel insane. And the last time I tested the tiniest dose, I felt completely mental.......
Cilantro, which I tolerate well, I'm thinking of taking on the DMSA off days.
Hmmm, it's tricky business when you're not fit enough to take what will in the end make you fit

Be careful of the cilantro, I know it can cross the blood brain barrier and apparently remove mercury from brain and nervous tissue etc. But I think the worry is, if a person is mercury toxic in their blood/tissue (body area), then the likelihood of the cilantro moving mercury into the brain is high because as it travels through the body, it can pick up mercury on the way and then as it passes the Blood brain barrier, it could be taking more mercury in with it. It's often a better idea to detox the blood/tissues/body with something first. But again, I hear people are receiving benefits from it regardless, so what can I say?
So, you gotta do what you gotta do that fits in with you. I just thought I'd post the possible risks with using it.
Anyway, yeah in regards to the DMSA? Don't worry that you can't use more than 5 mg or that you can't go past 24 hours. This is a story I'm hearing more and more with people and the only way you can do it, is by just doing what you can handle and chipping away at it bit by bit and stopping when you feel things are just too much. You'll do far more damage trying to push yourself into taking it for another day, just to fit in with the protocol.
I'm learning this more and more. I do feel Andy is definitely onto it in regards to the every 4 hours and I understand what he's getting at with taking it for 3 days or longer to avoid the sudden cut off from just using it for one day, because there is always a redistribution that occurs when stopping it but that's not the fault of the person that can't go beyond a day.
Often it's just a case you are too loaded with mercury to force anymore through your system and by the way, if you do? You risk the backfire effect. This is when too much mercury is being moved for the body to catch up with, so it backfires and in a sense, repoisons the person.
the kidney pain is usually from the mercury being moved through and causing them to ache, so at least you know something is definitely happening. Make sure you drink a lot of water to help that. And make sure you're taking antioxidants and other supplements because the stress of chelating depletes them big time. Like vitamin C, vitamin E, B complex, zinc, magnesium and organic flaxseed oil (1 tablespoon) in yoghurt or cottage cheese for the omega 3 oils to help the cell membranes heal. This is what andy recommends people take daily. He says to take the vitamin C, B complex, magnesium 3 - 4 times a day because then they are effective. Also says to take milk thistle too to support the liver and it's an antioxidant also (taken3-4 times a day). But some find the milk thistle can be hard because it tends to stimulate the liver to release even more toxins, others find it helps.
Sorry for the long post.

Thanks Dawn, so far so good, I had a bit of pain today while going pee, sorry if TMI, so I hope that means I am getting rid of some in my kidneys or bladder, them and my lungs have a very high burden according to the meridian testing from my dentist.
Best luck to you too Dawn, Kim was asking about you on the yeast connection...can I tell her you are doing better?
Thanks for the well wishes, Sandi xoxo

Sandi xoxo I wanted to clarify this post, I do take minerals and MSM on the days that I don't do the DMSA...so that my mineral levels are not depleted. Sandi
