Hi, Has anyone know how safe MRI scans are. I am due to have one on my brain and as I am fairly sensitive to most things I am quite worried about how it will affect me. Any information would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I am not sure if this will help you but I had two MRI and one CT scan all while still holding 14 amalgams in my mouth. I did not notice any effects from this or symtpoms. You do get a little stiff if you have to lie still in the maching for 45 minutes as I did, but that was it. I did not get a headache or feel sicker, or anything noticeable.

Probably one scan won't hurt. But if you get several with dye, the dye contains manganese which can be a problem - can actually cause "parkinson-like" symptoms over time. I know from experience, unfortunately :-( I have had tremors for months and I believe that my *many, many* MRI scans are to blame. I found alot of information on this by googling "manganese" and "MRI". HTH
