I was working as a dental assistant not knowing of the dangers of mercury and after 2 years of being exposed my health resulted in, inablitly to walk, sensitivity to light, ringing of the ears, leg cramps, dizzyness, unable to stand still for longer than 3 mins, a rash all over my arms and hands, ect. I've been taking vitmain c for the last month, i cant find any doctor that will help me, or believe me that i'm posioned...i feel so tired, so dizzy, so helpless. What can i do to start feeling better?

It sounds like your very sensitive to mercury. Have you had any sort of testing done yet?

If this is caused by mercury you need to start chelation therapy as soon as possible. There are different ways to do that and what works for one person may not work for another person.

I also recommend that you read Andy Cutler's book on amalgam illness. You can order it on the internet. Just do a search for "Andrew Cutler".

I'm so sorry that you're feeling so badly. The good thing is that it seems you've been able to target the source of your illness. It's also frustrating, because it's difficult to find help in getting better in the form of a good practitioner or doctor.

Here are some resources where you can try to locate a physician or dentist. You didn't mention whether you had any amalgams yourself. But I was thinking if you could find a biological mercury-free dentist, perhaps they could also refer you to a doctor or practitioner who is experienced in dealing with heavy metal detoxing.

If you do have any amalgams, it's not a good idea to do any sort of formal detox until the amalgams are removed by a biological dentist who specializes in the safe removal of mercury.

Anyway, here are the links. If you don't see doctors listed in your area (or in an area that you could conceivably travel to) perhaps you could contact these organizations for referrals.

http://www.iaomt.org//index.cfm?newsFlip=news

http://www.iabdm.org/members.cfm

http://www.holisticdental.org/index.html

http://www.dentalwellness4u.com/freeservices/find_dentists.html#TheInternational

And here is the website for the American College for the Advancement of Medicine. It's broken down by physician and specialty. Here is the list that came up when I typed in "Canada." To see the key for the abbreviated specialties just click on the "Public" area of the webpage and then "Find a Doctor." The key is at the bottom of the page. There are some doctors who say they specialize in chelation therapy. But again, if you have amalgams or root canaled teeth or crowns or anything -- I'd see a mercury/metal-free dentist first before doing any formal chelation.

Taking Vit C is good, it will protect you if you take high doses about 2000gms every 4hrs.
Vit E and selenium are important, magnesium in high doses about 400-600gms a day.
Algin will mop up mercury in your system which will make you feel better. You can order it here on this website.
It is very difficult to find a doctor who knows about this, i havnt got one, theres none here where i live, i have to do it on my own. This website has helped me so much. Russ and Laura will give you great advice on what to do and other forum members have a wealth of information.

Thank you for your answers! I don't have any amalgam fillings in my mouth. I'm so dizzy right now, i heard that taking hot bath would help you sweat away some mercury but once i got into the bath i felt as if i was going to pass out. I haven't worked for the past month, i can walk ok right now but i still can't go into buliding because the lights seem so strong as if im constantly in the spotlight. What foods should i eat and what should i avoid? Should i exercise?

I haven't done any formal chelation yet because I'm still getting my amalgams and dental restoration done. I've learned alot on the chelation issue from reading "Amalgam Illness," by Andrew Cutler, this was recommended to you previously, I think.

Russ and Laura sell this book at a discount. It might be worth the money for you to order a copy and read it. It's got lots of information on the biochemical reactions and symptoms that mercury toxicity causes and what can be done to alleviate it.

I just wanted to say that you might want to go slowly with any remedies that you try until you find an experienced practitioner to help you. Mercury poisoning can make us pretty sick. And sometimes the very efforts we try to help our bodies chelate can be hard on our immune systems.

I know you're so eager to get well and get rid of this -- and you will get it fixed! But, meanwhile don't be afraid to be gentle to yourself. Your body is dealing with alot right now. Even something like exercise might be too draining to your body's immune system. Its so busy trying to handle the mercury.

Even before I had my amalgams removed, I noticed a reduction in some of my symptoms by increasing my daily vitamin C dosage. You can take vitamin C to bowel tolerance -- and back off once your bowels become loose. The same can be said for magnesium supplementation. ANd Vitamin E with Selenium can also help your body deal with the mercury.

I wanted to share with you that I started using the Algin that they sell here even before I got my amalgams removed and I noticed a reduction in my symptoms -- and I was still actively being poisoned by my amalgams at the time. The Algin absorbs the mercury that is being dumped into the intestines like a charm, I think.

Another thing that is important is keeping your bowels moving regularly. The body excretes lots of mercury in feces.

I'm sure that Laura and Russ will have more information for you.

It's pretty amazing how long it takes people to do chelatoin. As long as your fillings are out, go for it. Just make sure you have read how to do it clearly and safely.

http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/Andy_dose_sched.html

It's the only way you are going to get healthy. I made the mistake of putting it off for too long.

You can buy DSMA from a couple websites. ALA is a supplement.

PS Andy Cutlers protocols are the only ones that works.

Dentists and dental assistants get a higher amount of mercury in their bodies than the avergae person because of working with it every day, so this would not be good for someone sensitive (or anyone, really).

Some diet tips that might help:

1. Ensure you get at least the minimum recommended protein a day (40g for a woman, not sure what it is for a man).

2. Drink water instead of tea/coffee/sodas as caffeine isn't good.

3. Cut out milk

4. Watch how you respond to high-sulpher foods

5. Make sure you get minimum B12 a day.

6. Magnesium might help (but I believe oxide is not the best). I'm still looking for a replacement.

7. Some people have a problem with citrus, so you might want to experiment with that i.e. I realised after a few months that the citrus bioflavinoids in the vit c supplement weren't working for me so I'm going to try an alternative.

8. Some people feel better cutting out gluten.

Keep us posted on how you get on. I'm doing it alone aswell. It isn't easy. I don't really know if what I'm doing is good/bad so I'm trying to play it safe as much as possible.

Hi! Since you dont have amalgams in your mouth anyway- you can detox.

Here are some natural detoxifiers-- they work slowly but are cheap til you can buy things like Chlorella, Algin, Alpha Lipoic Acid, etc.

Raw Pineapple
Raw Oranges
Raw nuts
Raw Apples
Cilantro
Onions
Raw Garlic (some people dont tolerate sulfur in onions and garlic, however-- but it does help leach out mercury - just use in moderation and be careful if your one of those sensitive to garlic)

Clay Baths-- some Clay is especially effective in drawing out heavy metals.

Activated Charcoal capsules
Sodium Alginate (Algin) Herb Allure sells it-- it's made from Nature's Sunshine. I'ts one of the most valuable supplements to take in sucking up mercury vapor in the body and pushing it out into your bowel movements and urine. Be sure to drink plenty of liquids when you take the Algin capsules.
Generous amounts of Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids (very important)

You'll need extra of these minerals too:

Magnesium
Selenium
Calcium (non-dairy source-- get from Broccoli, Kale, etc)

B Complex vitamins (all the B Vitamins- especially B12)

Protein-- lean meats like Turkey. (At least until the mercury is out)
According to Dr. Hal Huggins, Vegetarians have a harder time passing out mercury because lean meats have different compounds that bind to mercury and help it pass out of the body.)

Dairy is said to keep the body from eliminating mercury- so at this time, I suggest you dont have too much dairy products.

If you can go to a spa and use an Infra-red Sauna, I've read that many have had success leaching out mercury with those too.

Like what was said-- please do a Google search for Andy Cutler's protocol. It wil prove very valuable to you. Also search the old posts here-- especiallly from Laura and Russ.

I would also recommend that you get Cutler's book and gain an understanding of what mercury is doing to you.

You're symptoms are typical of mercury poisoning and there is a lot that can be done to help. It just takes some time. Demi made some good suggestions but the bottom line is to get the mercury out via some kind of chelation.

I detoxed slowly and gently using protein and chlorella. If you're interested, here is a link to my story:

http://herballure.com/mms

There are also things that can be done about specific symptoms, and I usually work from a natural position to help prevent doing any additional damager to the body.

Your tiredness could be related to thyroid issues. I used this when I was mercury toxic:

Thyroid Support. This worked wonders for me and only took a day to start feeling the difference.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.

Some people with mercury toxicity are sensitive to garlic and other sulfur-rich foods like onions, eggs, etc. You appear to be sensitive, so it might be best to avoid these foods for now.

Algin is the primary supplement we recommend for mercury toxicity. It doesn't mobilize mercury like DMSA or Alpha Lipoic Acid...it simply absorbs mercury from the colon, in order to prevent the mercury from being reabsorbed and redistributed. Mercury is primarily eliminated through the colon, so it's important to keep your bowels moving. Algin will help this also since it's a non-digestible fiber source.

Exercising may be too much right now, especially if you're particularly mercury toxic. Try to listen to your body...if you're feeling sick then you may not want to do things (or take things) that are going to aggravate your condition. When you're feeling stronger/better, you can slowly start adding things that will help eliminate mercury.

Vitamin C and E are also extremely beneficial and necessary for mercury toxicity. While there are some people who are sensitive to citrus, most people don't have a problem. We use Vitamin C with Citrus Bioflavonoids (3,000 to 8,000 mgs daily) and Vitamin E Complete with Selenium (400 to 800 IU daily). If you know you're sensitive to citrus, then try Rose Hips. It's very important to get a lot of antioxidants, which is why we recommend lots of vitamin C and E.

The dizziness could definitely be the result of high blood/tissue levels of mercury. Algin may really help your symptoms because it can reduce your body burden of mercury.

Let us know what you try and what works!

P.S. I definitely recommend Dr. Cutler's book Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis & Treatment. I think you'll find it extremely helpful and very enlightening, especially given your profession.

I also had trouble with heat and hot water. Take cooler baths if need to and add epsom salts to help detox. Also, stay away from sodium and drink lots of water (10-12 eight oz. glasses) to help flush out the toxins and help with the dehydration symptoms that you have.

Have you ever tried Golden Seal? It is suppossed to remove the toxins from your body. Also Epsom Salts baths. Sounds like with the dizziness you could be anemic, I was. Drink Cranberry Juice too. It will cleanse the body. Dandelion tea is good, it detox's the liver. You need an enviromental practicioner. You may need Vitamin C infusions. Take B vitamins as well. You need help before you can get better. Find a good humanitarian doctor don't go conventinal - they won't help and they'll make you sicker.

...now im 22 and i feel like im 99

I'm the same age. I remember a while back I went to the doctors, and although they didn't find anything wrong (they didn't do any urine, hair samples --just heard me out), they did test my blood for any adnormalities, and said my plasma viscosity was as low as an 80 year olds (they suspected I had a cold, which I don't recall having). Anyway, when he mentioned that, I though "funny, I feel like an 80 year old."

For your question "how soon", I'd say as long as you detox with various things, I'd say about a year. As said before, I'd say algin would be your best bet, and that gave me almost instant relief; whereas non-mercury-contaminated chlorella helped, but at a slower pace. It also produced profound ups and downs, which I, after 6 months, no longer suffer from -- well, they're not as profound anyway. It's a case of one step at a time.

Hi eveyone thanks for the replies! With this heat wave going on i've been drinking plenty of water and sweating A LOT! and i'm actually feeling a little better. I actually walked for half and hour...half and hour! i couldn't even muster up the energy to walk down the street a month ago. My eyes are still very sensetive to light...and my legs go weak everytime i walk into the store but hopefully one day the anxiety will go away. I feel more myself now...out of no where i shaked my tush to music that was playing...i was surprise any single movement of my body would increase my dizzyness before. Oh yea and i was able to take a shower today...standing up! I haven;t done hat in a while..i'd only take baths because i was afraid i'd faint...i hope everyone feels better too...its very hard when you feel so sick but no doctors will help you. Oh yea my boss called me and begged me to come back to work and offered me more money...i told him about the fact i was pretty sure what i have is mercury intoxication and he went on and on about how mercury had nothing to do with it. Hmmm the fact that i was perfectly healthy before i started workingthere tells me it has everything to do with it. I basically said...become mercury free and i'll come back...actually no i won't because my health is more important. I realize that everytime we mixed amalgam or removed and amalgam i was ruining my health. I became so jealous of people i'd see walking on the street and say to myself...how come they can stand there and walk, and when i try its such a big mission for me.

Sweating is one of the best ways to detox from mercury, it is much easier on the kidneys and other organs. I would definitely eliminate all gluten and dairy as they slow down the transit time of the colon and you want it working very efficiently to move the mercury out fast, or it could get redistributed.

Good decision not to go back to work, there are a percentage of us that are much more sensitive to mercury and dentists and doctors will not admit that. It is toxic for everyone, but especially those with the APOE-4 gene...we are very poor excretors.

Best luck,
Sandi
