Andy Cutler noted in his book on amalgam illness that alternative health practitioners often fall into the same trap that conventional practitioners do and apply band-aid solutions rather than find the root cause of illnesses and address it. Since recently becoming aware that amalgam is the most likely cause of my poor health and mental state I actually feel enlightened yet exhausted. I now feel like I am in a quandary. If I feel overwhelmingly and convincingly better after I have all my amalgams removed I would naturally feel ecstatic.
I am a realist though. I have had these amalgams for many years and have felt 'subnormal' for about 12 years. I don't expect to feel miraculously better immediately after having them removed. (One of my esteemed lecturers of Natural Medicine told me that on average it takes one month for every year of dysbiosis to obtain cure). If this was true and I have had amalgams in for 23 years I am in effect looking at 23 months. I am preparing myself for the set backs. I guess the beauty of this forum is that we hear about the remarkable stories that buoys our resolve but we also hear about the hideous insidious nature of mercury that prepares us for the worst case scenario.
I guess the reason why I feel exhausted lies in the fact that if amalgam is clearly shown to be my downfall, I would not be able to leave sleeping dogs lie. I simply could not rest on my laurels.
I only wish now that I had studied biochemistry and not natural medicine. I have had countless thoughts about how I could make a difference but it overwhelms me. I feel powerless.
This whole thing makes me wonder about my studies of natural medicine. Don't get me wrong, I will always sway in the direction of alternative over allopathic medicine. But, must admit if I was to get run over out on the street I would much prefer to be taken to my local emergency centre than my local homeopath !!
What this has made me realise is that 'natural medicine' is still mimicking allopathic medicine to a degree by bandaiding the symptoms instead of really looking for the cure. The 'bandaids' are herbs, homeopathics, dietary, manipulations etc etc. Preferable to pharmaceuticals naturally but still in effect bandaids.
It sounds to me like the naturopaths in the U.S are much more aware of the dangers of amalgam. Maybe there is some reason to this madness why I have been inflicted with this condition. Maybe it is my destiny to educate people in this country (Australia) about the effects of mercury. Gosh, were would I start ?? Research integrity and misconduct perhaps ?
