---CHRIST IS ENOUGH ~~
--"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being...."
---[Hebrews 1:3 / NIV] --
--ON my previous trips to the Holy Land I have yearned to feel the presence of Jesus and the disciples. I have dug my toes in the sands of the Dead Sea and walked the Via Dolorosa. But I finally found that feeling last year at Capernaum. Yes, Jerusalem itself is breathtaking for its history and culture. You can visit the holiest Christian sites, such as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Mount of Olives. And while there is some evidence that these locations are historically accurate, the fact is most of them were identified by the emperor Constantine's mother, the Christian convert Helen, on a pilgrimage she understood more than three hundred years after the death of Christ.
At Capernaum, I stood among the sun-blasted ruins of a Jewish synagogue with a small group of travelers, a breeze drifting in off the sea. The site has been extensively excavated and carbon-dated. Some of the columns, felled by earthquakes, have been resurrected. Otherwise it is as it was, the stone floor smoothed by the wear of centuries.
"By reliable biblical and historical accounts, Jesus preached and worshipped in this very building upon these very stones," said our guide.
He came down from Nazareth to the fishing village of Capernaum to reach a new and what He hoped was a more receptive audience for HIs starling message. Here He met the disciple Matthew, who lived but a few doors away. Here He healed Simon Peter's mother-in-law of fever, among many recorded miracles Finally, He cursed the town for its rejection of HIs preaching.
When the feeling came, I felt it in the soles of my feet as well as my heart, a pervasive warmth, a shifting of my soul. ~~
