Hi all,
I just thought I’d pass on some recent news and basically vent my thoughts .. sorry for the long post.
I had all (3) of my amalgams replaced last week. The good news is that very shortly after I noticed a change in my body temperature. Normally I have very cold hands and feet. This is not much better and I do not need the heaters on so much.
However the bad news is that I ended up getting my fillings replaced unsafely. The dentist was recommended to me by my (ex) ND after I had outlined the safely procedures that I wanted used. So, unwisely, I didn’t ask for further clarification. Anyway, the dentist’s version of safe (just a rubber dam) and mine were vastly different. I went ahead with the procedure as I had already traveled to get there (6 hour round trip) and just wanted it done. To help soak up the mercury I have taken so much Algin of late I think I am going to turn into a seaweed plant!
I was bedridden for several days after the appointment with fatigue and pain, but that isn’t unusual. My health goes though different stages up and down, but the most recently stage has been pretty much in bed for several months now. The good news is that a couple of days ago, I managed to get out of the house for a little bit, 2 days in a row. And I even did an hour and a half of work yesterday. That’s really exciting ! (for me anyway) And I managed to eat a piece of bread without getting increased anxiety the next day (which normally happens).
Once my DMSA arrives I will start a very low dose of DMSA every 4 hours later leading to DMSA/ALA. And I’ll also try to get rid of the candida once and for all.
I am really, really hoping that this makes a difference and it eventually helps my symptoms. If it doesn’t turn out to be mercury related I’m not sure where to go next (I am running out of doctors, specialists and alternative practitioners!) As I am sure you guys can relate when things are bad each day (each hour) is very tough.
Anyways.. my fingers are crossed. Wish me luck !
Cheers, Karen

Hi Karen, i had mine done with only a rubber dam for safety. I still havnt got over it, i feel ill more now than with amalgam in. DMSA should help you. Im too scared to take it at the moment. What symptoms do you have!

Hi Dawn, How long ago did you have your amalgams out ?
My symptoms are; fatigue (major), joint pain (major), weak muscles (major), pounding heart, anxiety, cold hands/feet, food sensitivities, very stubborn candida, shaking muscles.
I just had my first dose of DSMA (12.5mgms), no instant reaction .. woo hoo!
Cheers, Karen

Hi Karen, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I hope with detox and patience, you can recover. I think this would be a great lesson for others who are considering having their amalgams removed: Call the Dentist's office and ask specifically what safety precautions they take during the removal. You can find a list here as a guide: Safety Precautions for Amalgam Removal It is, perhaps, not necessary that every precaution listed be followed, but the more the better. For some, it's hard to get into the habit of realizing that medical professionals work for us. They are no different than contractors that are coming over to fix some drywall or put up a new deck: They work for you. Ask questions, negotiate, ask for what you want. If they don't want to give you what you want, find a contractor who will. This is a great lesson to learn for all of us. Even some ND's recommend dentists that they are not sure about, but they won't tell you that. Some of them may get kickbacks just as doctors do from prescriptions. I wish you the best of luck and to keep us posted with progress. I would make sure you're taking lots of Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids for the joint issues. Working out the muscles may help with the shaky muscles.

Thanks Rus. Yes I definitely agree that you should ask lots of detailed questions to your dentist to ensure that you are both talking about the same ‘safe practices’. It is tough to go through the process of remembering all this when you are dealing with your symptoms in the first place, but hopefully others reading this post will learn from my experiences !
Lion of Judah,
How can I tell I have candida? Well I react to traditional candida foods (eg. yeast), I have white spots on my skin (soon people are going to start calling me a Dalmatian!) I’ve also had skin swabs to confirm it. It also occurs in the more tender areas of one’s body, if you are a female .. you’ll know what I mean.
The medications I have tried are super strong cremes (specialist prescribed), the candida diet, candida natural ‘good bug’ supplements (Acidophilous and Threelax) and several attempts at prescription high does of Nystatin.
Currently I am staying on the candida diet permanently as I now strongly react to anything with yeast etc.. in it anyway (this is only a recent occurrence). I also take Acidophilous. During my latest round of Nystatin I reacted badly with anxiety and my heart was pounding much worse than usual. I will try Nystatin again once I feel the mercury issues are a little more under control.
The bugs used to go away whilst I was using medication but it would come right back. I figure my body presents a happy breeding ground and until I sort out the root cause for my body allowing this to happen, I think it will just keep coming back. So I am focussing on my mercury, and also in my case arsenic, issues.
There are various posts on this forum about not treating candida too quickly whilst you are mercury toxic as the candida may actually help store the mercury away.
PS: I tried to go up to 25mgms of DMSA with bad results. I am dropping back down to 12.5mgms and hoping it helps.

Hi Karen, what bad effects did you get from the 25 mg of DMSA? I'm interested to hear. I cannot cope with any form of chelation whatsoever anymore, no matter how low I take it, or how strict my diet is.
If you can handle the 12.5 mg, that is good. I gather you're on the 4 hourly dosage regime? Most people I know are using 12.5 mg and some even have to go to 6 mg!!! But I'd be interested to hear what side effects you got from 25 mg.

Hi Bex,
The bad effects from DMSA were; increased fatigue, increased joint & muscle pain, but the big one was that is messed with my head; anxious thoughts, very teary, feeling very overwhelmed and bad dreams. Today is much better, I am less fatigued (I am out of bed) and best of all no strange thoughts so far. YAY. Only another 24 hours to go on this round. And yes I am on the 4 hourly dosage routine.
Sorry to hear you’ve had such a rough time Bex. That’s just awful. Hopefully chelating by natural means will eventually help your symptoms. That’s what I’m planning to do if DMSA is too rough a ride. What are you currently doing to chelate? Can you handle green drinks at all?
Hi Lion of Judah,
Yes my understanding is the same. In the reading that I have done the detox for arsenic and mercury are almost identical. When I started to detox I only knew that arsenic was an issue for me but after I started chelation mercury started appearing in high amounts, and that was just from taking green drinks.
Do you have any idea where you got the arsenic from ? I am still wondering where mine came from. Good luck to you detoxing the arsenic & mercury. Hopefully soon we can all be metal free & symptom free !!
Cheers, Karen

Hi there, I'm glad you're doing ok so far. The symptoms you got are pretty typical for chelating mercury and not pleasant.
No i'm not doing anything to naturally detox mercury because I am not coping as it is. A garlic supplement has done great damage to me, plus using Lipoic acid not too long after that and now I'm left with very bad brain symptoms etc.
So I can't do anything now without causing psycho symptoms and even if I do nothing, I go through it regardless, so I'm scared to kind of tip things further and don't really know what to do.
Thanks for the kind words. Good luck with your chelating and hope you beat this thing.

Bex, I really feel for you. The mental symptoms that come with mercury poisoning are beyond description to someone who hasn’t experienced them. Hang in there. I was told 3 years ago by several doctors that I had incurable arthritis and ‘just to live with it’, even though I was mostly bedridden at the time (I am only 31). I have persisted with various things since then and I do feel as though I am moving forward, albeit slowly ... anyway, my point is to keep trying, keep hoping and you will eventually find something that works for you. (PS: are you in NZ? I’m in Australia .. in the same neighbourhood .. sort of!)
LoJ, I found out about the arsenic though a Heavy Metal blood test (my arsenic levels were way out of the reference range). I’ve also recently done a hair analysis and it shows up there too, but within the reference range. I am still not sure where I got the arsenic from, I'm not sure I ever will know. My guess is from drinking unfiltered rainwater from a property that was within a shortish distance from an industrial area.
Cheers .. Karen
