--"LORD, I want to be more like Jesus. Help me to keep my eyes and heart fixed only on Him, the author and finisher of my faith. In Christ's Name."
---"Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart." ---[Psalm 37:4] --
---FOR THE PAST YEAR I've had a monthly phone call with a Christian Director. I reached out to her because I was feeling unclear about God's purpose for me in this empty-nest season. Her purpose is to continually draw me deeper into my relationship with Jesus and listen to what He's saying to me.
--As we talked, she frequently asked, "What do you want?" I hadn't considered that question for myself in a very long time. It's an important question and one that even Jesus asked. For example, in Matthew 20:29-34, two blind men cried out to Jesus as He walked past. The crowd told them to be quiet, but they shouted louder. Jesus stopped and asked them, "What is it you want?" They said, "We want to see." He touched their eyes, and they could see. We have to be careful when we seek our desires to not become self-consumed. One sure way to avoid this selfishness is to continually delight ourselves in the Lord. As today's Palm promises, if we delight in Him, He will give us the desire of our hearts. His desire become our desires. We show our delight in Jesus through close connection with Him. After time spent in conversations with my Director, prayer, and journaling, I've articulated the desire of my heart: meaningful work; community and connection; vibrant, healthy relationships with Jesus and others. Like the blind men, I'm excited to see how Jesus will respond as I honestly express my desires, because He delights in giving. ~ --"Father, help me to be more like Jesus each day. Direct my steps to stay in line with His Word. Thank You, Lord." ---Guideposts/JB~
