---I'll Show You the Cross ~~

--"For I satisfy the weary ones..."
--[Jeremiah 31:25]

---Even though my generation of Americans usually work fewer hours per day than the generation that preceded us, fatigue remains a major health issue in America. As a college professor, I often notice that my students are sleep deprived. I, too, am a night owl and resist going to bed before midnight. The next morning I often wonder why I am tired. Most of us need more nourishing sleep than we are getting.

One of my best friends is my old recliner chair in my home study. Secluded on the second floor, I often plop down in this worn chair with book in hand, soft music playing, and within minutes am fast asleep. An hour later, I usually wake refreshed and ready to grade papers. It is amazing what a good nap or siesta does for me!

Yesterday as I sat in my recliner, I opened my Bible to the prophecy of Jeremiah. As I read the story of a tired and disheartened prophet, I heard the old sage reflect, "For I [your God] satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes. At this I awoke and looked, and my sleep was pleasant to me" (Jeremiah 31:25-26 / NASB).

Sometimes we need to lie back with Jeremiah and rest in the Lord. It is all right if your prayers and meditation usher you into a deep state of rest, reflection, or sleep. God is one who refreshes our souls with His presence and brings strength to the weary. ~~
Even Jesus told His disciples, "Come aside and rest for a while."

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
