--Years ago, when I was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer and given a two-year life expectancy, I began to wonder more about heaven, with both fear and fascination. Heaven used to be a faraway place, but it suddenly seemed closer, and I wanted to know more about the journey from here to there.

Stacks of books have been written on the subject, so I did some reading, talked to people, and asked questions. I felt overwhelmed by all the information and have to admit I still feared the unknowns. Especially the fact that I had to die in order to get to get to heaven, and dying scared me.

Well, guess what? I didn't die. In fact, I have outlived that life expectancy by fifteen years, but many of my questions still live within me, and I still wonder what the process of getting to heaven will be like.

Just a few weeks ago, a friend told me something that is reshaping my thoughts. He and his wife had gone to visit a dear friend who was dying. They went to say goodbye and sat together with the family in her last moments. She had not spoken for hours and her breathing was slowing down. In her final moment she uttered a single word. Her last as she journeyed from here to there. Loud and clear, the word was heard.

--"WOW" she said. And took her final breath. ~~

--"Lord Jesus, what a perfect response to the final glimpse of Heaven...living up to all Your promises. WOW! ~
