---Many years ago a friend of mine died unexpectedly. He grew up in the Soviet Union and had worked for their security agency. When he became a Christ-follower, he had to radically change his life. God invited him to go into printing, even though he did not know anything about it. God blessed his enterprise, and he printed hundreds of thousands of Christian books that were distributed throughout the former Soviet Union. The last time I spoke to him he was going to the Middle East to meet with some leaders of the underground Church. Much of his life revolved around business, but he had determined to be rich toward God. I don’t understand why he stepped into eternity in the season he did, but I trust the Lord with it. That experience served as a reminder that I should use my days to be rich toward God. I don’t want to miss opportunities, imagining there is some time in the future when I can focus on that. Where we are, with what we have, we should live so that we can be rich toward God.

THINK ABOUT IT
The psalmist prays, “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom” (NLT). That is a worthy prayer to offer the Lord each day.

PRAYER
--"Heavenly Father, may I not take today for granted—or tomorrow. Without fearfulness, help me endeavor to know You more and to serve You as if today was my last day in time to be rich in spirit toward all that pertains to You. In Jesus’ name, amen."
