--I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE!
--"For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named."
---[Ephesians 3:14-15/ ESV] --
--My wife, Carol, and I drove to Connecticut for her uncle's funeral. He had died a the age of ninety-three. The service was lovely-- clearly, he had been a pillar in the church. But the oddest thing was that sitting across the aisle from us was a fellow I knew from our neighborhood back in New York.
It was Jim and his wife, Jenny. Our kids had played together in Little League and I used to see him in the park when I did my morning runs. We would talk about everything as we jogged together. Our kids, our work, our families, what we were reading. He and Jenny had moved out of the neighborhood a couple of years ago and I hadn't seen him in a long while. Imagine my surprise to see them here at this funeral. How did they know the deceased?
At the passing of the peace I gave Jim a hug and explained that the man who had died, the man lying in the flag-draped coffin, was my wife's uncle. He looked quizzically at me and said, "He's my wife's uncle, too."
We didn't have time just then to figure out the connection. But when the service had ended, Jim and I were able to piece together exactly how our wives were related--by marriage--to the deceased.
Small world? It is indeed. I keep reflecting on the Bible passage that had been read at the service,...
"I am the Resurrection and the Life, says the Lord. Whoever has faith in me shall have life, even though he dies."-- [John 11:25-26].
It struck me how we are all connected, in life and death. We are God's family. ~~--Daily Guideposts/RH~~~~~~~~~
