star--SAMARITAN'S PURSE ASKED TO LEAVE NEW YORK CITY~~

~~New York City Council member Corey Johnson recently demanded that Samaritan's Purse leave New York City immediately. Run by Franklin Graham, Samaritan's Purse had set up a field hospital in New York's Central Park, where it has treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients during the pandemic.

The cost of setting up and running the field hospital was in the millions of dollars, which the city readily accepted. Now that the worst of the pandemic seems to be over, the councilman is calling Graham a "notoriously bigoted, hate-spewing" man, over his biblical views on homosexuality. Graham has made it clear that they treat all patients and do not discriminate.
Graham said, "Our Christian faith compels us to love and serve everyone in need, regardless of their faith or backgrounds." grouppray

--AND YOU HAVE TO PAY US ON YOUR WAY OUT~~

~~After kicking out the Samaritan's Purse field hospital, New York City is now demanding it pays state taxes.

- After Samaritan's Purse operated more than a month in the city, treating coronavirus patients during the pandemic without charging for its services, New York City is demanding it pays taxes to the state. Franklin Graham responded, "We didn't call them; they called us, and we agreed to go. We have not charged them one penny. All of our services have been paid by God's people."

----THE BEREAN CALL / TBC NOTES ~
-[T. A. McMahon / Executive Director ~]

~~God Is God...And We're Not.

~That may sound like a ridiculously obvious statement!
Nevertheless, if you believe all of us are not God, you're among an ever-diminishing minority. The belief in godhood for all, the lie that Satan passed on to the human race through Eve (Genesis 3:5), has been the faith of the religions of the East for thousands of years, and which has of late overtaken biblical Christianity in the West.

Recent world events, in particular the pain, confusion, and frustration surrounding COVID-19 as well as civil protests, have accelerated the outcry for solutions. Solutions, that is, except what the God of the Bible offers.

Instead, humanity is falling for the same deceptive ploy used on Eve. Although the Adversary has dressed it up to appeal to each age, culture, and level of sophistication, it remains the doctrine of devils (1 Timothy 4:1). - bible And in the majority of cases, it continues to be conveyed directly from demons, though now through altered states of consciousness.

The Lord willing, we will be addressing this thriving grand delusion in the month's ahead from the content of four books: Christianity and Antichristianity In Their Final Conflict; America, the Sorcerer's New Apprentice; Game of Gods, and most importantly, God's Holy Word, [Holy Bible].

--'GOD DID NOT DO THAT'~

--On April 13, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, while giving an update on the apparent plateauing of the COVID-19 cases in New York City, made a statement that was quite revealing of his inner beliefs. He stated that "God did not stop the spread of the virus, our behavior has stopped the spread of the virus." And again, "God did not do that." Although Cuomo claims to be a man of faith and a practicing Catholic, he basically dismissed any idea that God could provide any help or relief in this time of crisis. While there is a responsibility we have in this crisis, the Bible is clear that we work together with God, and He also is working in response to our prayers.

--Pandemic Pandemonium // How Should Christians Respond to Pandemic Diseases?
--from: Gotquestions.org [Link at bottom]~

So far, all I have experienced with the coronavirus are some inconveniences and annoyances. My heart truly goes out to anyone who contracts the disease and/or loses a loved one.

The phrase I am using, “pandemic pandemonium,” is dual purpose. There is a lot of pandemonium (chaos) about the pandemic (disease). But, the pandemonium (chaos) is also pandemic (prevalent). The two words are accurately describing each other.

The news media and social media is not being particularly helpful either. For some, it is the end of the world (or at least a great time to raise prices on toilet paper and hand sanitizer). For others, it is fake news, with COVID-19 being little more than a bad cold. The truth is likely, as usual, somewhere in between.

On GotQuestions.org, the questions we are receiving about the coronavirus pandemic can be divided into three categories:

(1) Is the coronavirus pandemic a sign of the end times?

The Bible does say that disease and pestilence will occur in the end times (Luke 21:11; Revelation 6:8). But, there is no way to know if the coronavirus is an actual sign of the end times, or just a precursor to what will occur in the end times. My gut feeling is that it is just a precursor. What Revelation 6:8 describes is exponentially worse than what we are currently experiencing.

(2) Should Christians stockpile food, medicine, and cleaning supplies?

The one time the Bible mentions stockpiling, it does not speak of it favorably (Luke 12:16-21). There is nothing wrong with having a little extra of the essentials lying around. There is something wrong with hoarding supplies to the point that you are preventing people who actually need them from being able to get them.

(3) How should Christians respond to pandemic diseases?

One of the fruits of the Spirit is peace (Galatians 5:22-23). “Do not fear” occurs over 300 times in the Bible. As followers of Christ, we should be ambassadors of peace. Our trust in God should be even more evident when everyone else is freaking out.

We should have no part in the pandemic pandemonium. Yes, we should be wise, discerning, and reasonably prepared. Yes, we should take sensible steps to avoid contracting and/or spreading the disease. No, irrational fear and panic-based decisions should have no part of our lives.

May I never have to buy toilet paper online again!

Question: "Are church closings an appropriate response to a pandemic?"

Answer: Churches around the world have chosen to respond in various ways to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some are complying with the government mandates; many are live streaming their sermons; others are finding a different work-around, such as hosting drive-in services in a parking lot; others are meeting outside in undisclosed locations and changing the meeting place every week; still others are openly defiant and holding services as usual. Should we be shutting down the church, or keeping it open? Here are some things to consider: -- bible

1. The church is not a building; the church is the people of God, redeemed by Jesus Christ. So, in an important sense, no one can shut down the church. A building may sit empty, but the church can still be “filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19).

2. Followers of Christ should always seek to obey civil authority unless that authority requires that we do something sinful. We see this principle played out in the lives of Daniel (Daniel 6:10–28) and the apostles (Acts 5:25–42) and in the response of Joseph and Mary to go to Bethlehem to register for taxation (Luke 2:1–5). Paul states that we are to obey those who rule over us, for they were placed there by God Himself for our good (Romans 13:1–7; cf. 1 Peter 2:13). So, it’s always wise to obey governmental authority unless compelled by Scripture not to obey.

Those churches who defy the mandates of civil authorities, claiming that “we must obey God rather than human beings!” (Acts 5:29), may be overlooking the fact that the orders are not designed to stop us from worshiping and ministering. In the early days of the church, when Peter and John defied the Sanhedrin, at issue was a direct order to stop preaching in the name of Jesus Christ (verse 28). Similar restraints are in place in many nations around the world where the church is persecuted. But neither parallels the current situation involving COVID-19; the stated motivation of federal, state, and local governments for the personal distancing rules is the protection of the general public, including our own congregations. No one is trying to keep us from preaching the gospel.

3. Churches have their good testimony in their communities to consider. We do not want to be seen as rebellious and reckless. Rather, we want to follow the biblical command to “be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:17–18). The church’s response to the COVID-19 crisis should be to show the love of Christ, finding ways to minister to our hurting, fearful neighbors.

4. There’s wisdom in staying out of harm’s way. For instance, we wouldn’t allow our children to be in a cage with a wild animal, even if we have “faith” that God will protect them. It’s not an issue of having faith vs. lacking faith—it’s an issue of wisdom vs. foolishness. We should always choose the path of wisdom.

5. Given that the COVID-19 virus is very contagious and potentially deadly, the church is right to take steps to ensure the physical well-being of God’s family. Temporary social distancing and the cancellation of larger public gatherings (such as church meetings) may be necessary for the protection of people. Pastors are right to be lovingly concerned for their congregations. Churches sometimes close their doors due to harsh weather conditions: ice storms or snowstorms can make travel dangerous. Churches who call off services because of weather emergencies are not disobeying God; they are showing appropriate concern for people’s safety.

6. The situation churches face due to the COVID-19 outbreak is unique and temporary. Once the threat has passed, we will be free to return to our meetings and ministries as before. Pastors should not feel they are disobeying God by obeying the governing authorities during these unique times.

The days of COVID-19 are difficult, to be sure. Yet churches are still finding ways to minister: through the internet, email, texting, and good, old-fashioned letters and phone calls, pastors are staying up with God’s people in the churches they serve. The uncertainty and hardship surrounding the pandemic will not last indefinitely. This time will conclude, and things will get back to relative normalcy. In the meantime, we are patient. We stay faithful. We obey the law to the degree that we are able.

We may be isolated, quarantined, or forced into a temporary separation, “but God’s word is not chained” (2 Timothy 2:9).

--DON'T LET THE WORLD SCARE YOU!

--[TBC NOTES/ The Berean Call] ~

--If you think the title of this has to do with the current pandemic uncertainties and inaccuracies, it does so only coincidentally.
No, this is far more important. A major problem of many believers who are continually engrossed in the news reports from the various media is the mesmerizing effect it has on their minds. At the very least, such activity clouds and can even bury what they have been taught from God's Word.

The Apostle Peter writes, "Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath showed me. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance" and "This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour..." (2 Peter 1:13-15; 2 Peter 3:1-2). bible

We need to be continually reminded of God's words. Unlike what the world puts forth, they are absolutely true and eternal. Again Peter reminds us, "But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you" (2 Peter 1:25).

Remember, the Gospel, and all it includes is good news. Make sure you are filling your "pure minds" with God's love and truth. That's the antidote for fear. ~~

--**EAGER TO GROW //
Louis called, saying he had prayed with Franklin to ask Jesus Christ into his life. The staff member took time to talk through the plan of salvation with him. Louis was eager to offer his mailing address so he can receive material to help him grow in his life with Christ. They prayed together, and the caller was thankful for the help and the prayers.

--**FROM CANCER TO CHRIST // Jessica called, saying she was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. After hearing Franklin Graham share the Gospel in a TV spot, she said she knew about God but wanted to talk with someone more about what it meant to be saved. The volunteer shared with her about a relationship Jesus Christ, and the caller prayed to receive Him into her life. Jessica said she was going to start reading the New Testament, and pray to Jesus. ~~

--**SCARED ER NURSE// Beth, an emergency room nurse, called our prayer line and shared she tested positive for COVID-19. Feeling exhausted and afraid, she asked for prayer. Our volunteer walked through the booklet "Steps to Peace With God," explaining how she can know she will be with the Lord forever. Beth prayed to receive Jesus Christ into her life, and she requested BGEA's follow-up material to help her grow in her new relationship with God. ~~

--TRUST GOD in TROUBLING TIMES~~

--Please Read/ PSALM 46 ~~ bible

~~IF YOU LISTEN TO THE NEWS, no doubt you've heard scary stories of political upheaval, global threats, and natural or man-made catastrophes. Although people around you may be fearful and stressed, there is no reason a child of God should feel this way. For Christians, the Lord is a refuge and very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:10.)

While today's passage describes a variety of disasters, the writer's intention was certainly not to cause fear. Rather, these words are a reminder of our Father's supremacy over everything that happens, His protection of HIs people, and the ultimate victory that results in His kingdom's rule on earth. In light of this we are told to let go of worry and efforts to protect ourselves--and instead trust Him. Our comfort and security are found not in frantically running around, trying to make sure we are safe, but in knowing God. Whatever trouble we experience, He is sufficient to help us through it.

The key to courageously facing the future is confidence in the Lord. He's your shelter, strength, and help in trouble. To increase your trust in Him, read through the Psalms, looking for words and phrases that affirm His protection, steadfastness, and care.~~

--SHE NEEDED HELP
// Sylvia called distressed and crying, remembering the suicide of her grandson some years ago. She was the one who found him and had tried to revive him. When our representative, Jane, discussed the Gospel with her, Sylvia admitted she did not know Christ and was not sure she would go to Heaven. Jane carefully shared the plan of salvation with her and many Bible verses of encouragement, and Sylvia decided to pray to invite Jesus Christ into her life. At the end of their conversation, Sylvia said she now felt both grief and joy at the same time, rather than the complete hopeless she has felt for the past few years. ~

TOO BUSY~--/ Dave called and requested prayer, saying he needed his life to change; it always seemed to be going in the wrong direction. When our representative, Howard, asked if he had a relationship with God, he replied no; "I've just been too busy trying to get my life together." As they talked, Howard began sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with him. When they discussed repentance, Howard asked him if he would like to get right with God tonight and receive Christ as his Savior. Dave repented of his sins and invited Jesus to be the Lord of his life. ~~

--[Friend, you are loved with an everlasting love and underneath are His everlasting arms. If you have not yet received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, please do so now. We are not promised tomorrow. Jesus loves you. "Come unto Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for our souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. angelwing --[Matthew 11:28-30] ]
