---Christmas is a time for family traditions, and I'm so proud of one my daughter, Holley, started five years ago. Holley wanted to teach her daughter, Bailey, then eight, to show Jesus' caring spirit. Holley and her husband bought five-dollar coffee gift cards. On Christmas night, the three of them drove around, handing out the cards to people who were working. Gas station attendants. Firefighters. Pharmacy staff.

Baily learned to appreciate that essential workers sacrifice time with their families to keep thing running on holidays. And the delight in the recipients' eyes showed her that to give is also a gift.

This year, my granddaughter and her parents will again undertake their Merry Mission. I raised Holley to get involved in the community, a custom now passed to the next generation. ~~

As Christians we do not need to wait until a special day to reach out and help others. That is our calling as Christ-followers for every day of the year.
