Does anyone know a good holistic dentist in Ireland or the UK? Just tried the Munro-Hall vtox clinic and not very impressed at all. I need someone who's going to listen to me and at listen consider my fears

I would suggest David Harvie Austin (trained under Hal huggins) or David Cowan (who I think uses all safeties and diamondlite, but you might want to call and confirm that). Both are in London (I believe both are close to Euston Station).
These are the only two I found that used safeties and diamondlite, so I can't really recommend others. There is the Essaway dentist Dawn was talking about who uses a machine, but he doesn't use diamondlite and I gather insists on sedation (I'm sure she can tell you more).

hello,
I am goign to have mine removed by Dr Adam Sapera in Belsize park in London. He uses safety and Cerex, a ceramic with no metals in it. You can go to an initial consultation where you can just discuss your options and see what you think. He was very approachable.

I have just made initial contact with the Hall-Munro clinic. They are sending me some info. Could you please expand on why you were unimpressed with them. I dont want to get involved if they are no good (very expensive too!) Thanks.

I used Gareth Rhydian, a rather friendly Welshman at the Brompton Medical Center. He was sympathetic to the whole Mercury problem and removed all of mine using all the correct procedures (from what I understand). I had a terrible time with my amalgam and he was the one who suggested vitamin C and essentialy cured me. Furthermore, I went to Gareth after another dentist (a hugely expensive one in Cavendish Square, London) told me I needed nearly £20k worth of additional work done. Gareth told me this work was almost entirely unnecessary. This is important as I get the feeling that it was a dentist doing unnecessary work that got my in to the mess in the first place and a dentist saying work is unnecessary is a good sign. Overall I'm happy with him. On the downside I did get a bit of bruising with some of his injections in my lower jaw and Im getting a slight allergic reaction from a temporary filling he has just put in. Here's the web page: www.holisticdentalcentre.co.uk
I'm a Vitamin C evangelist!

Clare, i like the idea of the mercury vapour machine that essawy uses, but he doesnt use Diamondlite which is the safest material to use in the mouth, i only had my amalgams done recently with white composites but they are not safe and i dont want any health problems in the future, so i have decided to do them again. If i had the money i would initially go to this dentist for checking for vapours and removing the fillings i have and i would ask if he could put temporary fillings in, then go to Austin for diamondlite, but i cant keep paying out. Essawy is a great dentist, but he just doesn.t use diamondlite, shame.

Thanks for all your replies guys - I will check them out. At the moment I am trying not to think about it too much as I go into so much fear. I really hate going to the dentist even that bit where they're just looking around in your mouth.
I wanted to reply to the person who asked me about Munro-Hall. They may be great dentists I haven't got that far with them yet. It's just that firstly they seem to be impossible to contact. I ring and ring and ring and leave messages and they don't reply. Honestly once it took me three weeks just to ask a simple question and get an answer.
Secondly, they seem so cold and unfeeling. I'm really dentist phobic and I need someone who's going to show at least some sympathy. They want me to have three teeth out as they are root canaled as well as some other treatment. I didn't want two of these out as they are molars and I thought doing everything at once would be too traumatic for me. (Honestly I've cried over a simple filling at the dentists before) They wrote to me telling me they would only treat me if they could do everything at once and the whole tone of the letter was very bullying.
So now I am wondering what to do as I don't think I'm up to all that.

I know how you feel. I am very phobic of the dentist. It's been very hard in the past to find one I am comfortable with. I don't like having dental work done and shake like a leaf. It's pretty traumatic for me.
Austin moves at your own pace, doing as much or as little as you want, and doesn't insist on injections. But it doesn't matter how nice the dentist, I still don't like going. He tries to be as gentle as he can, but I get very sore. There are some dentists I've been to see that I've never gone back too, they were so awful.

Thanks for your comments re Munro-Hall.
The receptionist said there is a long waiting list for treatment so maybe their success has gone to their heads!!!
The booklet which I have says that it is not a menu which you pick from you have to do the treatment that they tell you, which did make me a bit nervous. They don't sound very customer focussed!
I will do more research before proceeding. Thanks.

Just wanted to correct the impression of Munro-Hall a little. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I went there recently for an examination appointment, and my impression was rather different from yours, Mangogirl. Firstly, I found them to be very considerate and friendly. They spent ever so much time examining me, explaining on beforehand every little thing they did. Secondly, they were very explicit about the fact that the treatment plan they eventually make for me is negotiable in every respect. They told me I could choose to do it all at their clinic, or have parts of it done elsewhere. If I didn't agree to everything they put into the plan, they were open for discussion - a.s.o.
All in all, I felt very well taken care of and listened to. Too bad your experience was so radically different...!
And btw - I sat talking to another patient in their waiting room for awhile, and she set my mind at peace about the trauma of having such extensive work done in such short time. She told me that, probably due to the infusions they gave her, she felt utterly refreshed and actually couldn't believe she'd gone through so much dental work just hours before.

If you want to know more about Munro_Hall dentist take a look at the GDC hearing on the GDC website http://www.gdc-uk.org/General+public/Fitness+to+Practise+hearings/just an update on that case.If you go onto link, click on "recent hearings" then at the bottom click on page 2, Graeme Robert Munro Hall, (3rd name from bottom) Case was on 10th December 2007, he was found NOT GUILTY of serious professional conduct. To cut a long story short he replaced amalgams for a patient who had motor neuron disease. The patient had been told he had mercury poisoning(by someone else)and asked Munro hall for the dental treatment. Doctor contacted him with concerns about procedures, which Munro hall ignored and removed the amalgams of patient regardless of warning because that was what the patient really wanted. For anyone here interested in more details of case go to link above find Munro hall, and there are 3 sections: 1.Charge 2.Finding of facts 3.Determination I thought these were interesting no.19 "...the committee also considers that because of the particular nature of your practice ,you may have become isolated from mainstream dentistry as reflected by the lack of general dental subjects in your CPD records." also no.22 "The committee acknowledgesthe steps you are taking which address its concerns over your failure to heed advice from medical practitioners, provision of misleading info& permitting a patients wishes to influence your clinical judgement." In October this dentist came to Ireland and talked about modern dentistry & informed lots of people on the dangers of amalgam, I was sick that day,so could not go, but a friend of mine did go ,a friend whose opinion I value and trust very much said that Munro hall was a great man.and had talked about the case to him. He said that the patient wanted the work done, believed it would help him.

I have decided to get my heavily amalgamed molar extracted sooner rather than later by just going to my normal dentist, but asking for the first appointment in the day, and that he cleans out the ligments, and does not use vasco-constricters or adrenal or preservative. It seems that it will be the easiest course, then i can start on http://www.awakennutrition.com/testimonials.htmlwhich my friend in Canada is having great success with, and it only needs a spray into the mouth each morning but you have to go slow at the begining. He made the mistake of not and was ill at first.. You can start it while the fillings are still in but says only if they do not leak so that is why I am getting the molar out asap then if the spray works, I am in no hurry to get the last one replaced to give me adrenals time to get strong which will take some time as i am so sick. It will be interesting to see how it goes, and of course I can always revert back to the Cutler protocol and a sooner replacement if it fails. Maybe I will go to Berlin to get the last one out.......cheaper I hope and anyway, I LOVE Berlin.
