I take 400 mg of magnesium citrate everyday. Literally, if I skip taking it for 2 days my moods swings (mostly anger) will go out of control again.
I was considering increasing the dose to 600 mg a day. What do you think is the maximun safe dose?
Note: Magnesium is a laxitive after you cross about 500 mg in one serving.

It's difficult to determine what amount a mercury toxic person should take because magnesium is displaced by mercury, and the amount of displacement will vary from one person to another. I believe the best way is to change your dose and see how your body responds over a 2 week period of time. As for the type of magnesium... I love magnesium and take it frequently. This is what I use: Magnesium Complex

Hi Clare, Yes, magnesium is safe to take whether you still have amalgams in or you're post-removal. Either way, magnesium is very beneficial for mercury toxic people, because mercury intereferes with the body's ability to absorb and utilize magnesium. It's common to experience sore or tight muscles, muscle cramps or spasms, eye twitches or other muscle twitching, constipation, and even high blood pressure related to magnesium deficiency. I take 3-4 capsules of Magnesium Complex daily. It comes in capsule form which is great because if I'm having a muscle cramp, I can open the capsule and pour the magnesium under my tongue so it absorbs quicker. The cramps usually goes away in about 60 to 90 seconds! Plus, Magnesium Complex contains two of the most highly absorbable forms of magnesium: citrate and malate. Hope this helps!

I take 800mg of ionic mg each day as a minimum and more if I have conditions that will cause me to use up or need more. It would be very difficult for a hg poisioned person to get too much mg, and even then you will just be wasting money because you will pee it out (unless you have kidney damage)

With epsom salts being magnesium, is there a problem with taking epsom salts every day? It says on the box not to, but I can't see why not.

With mercury toxicity, magnesium was very effective in helping me with constipation.

Dallas,
Epsom salts will cause diarrhea if very much is taken internally. Taking a bath with Epsom salts is the best way to quickly get mg to your muscles though. As far as internally, you will need to judge that for yourself or use another form such as glycinate, malate or ionic if you are very deficient and have trouble assimilating like I am.

Thanks, Russ and Missy. Actually, Missy, diarrhea would be a welcome relief right about now I want to use the epsom salts not only because I am deficient, but because I am sick and tired of a 24/7 non-operative bowel. I am very thankful though, that many of my other magnesium deficiency symptoms have lessened or left completely. I believe the bowel is due to my hypothyroidism acting up. Of course, my tests are now normal so there is no chance that the doc will up my medication - even if she is a naturopath!
