---(Mark 1:40-41 / NRSV)~~As I follow Jesus around through the Gospels, one thing that interests me most is how He spends His time. His calendar gives us a clear picture of who He was. He's visited by shepherds. A man who eats locusts prepares the way for His ministry, and His best friends are smelly fishermen. Here's the list from Matthew 4:14 of who He's concerned about: "all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed" (NIV). Children. Prostitutes. Tax collectors, Samaritans. Gentiles. Slaves. I could go on. If I was there to follow Jesus around, I'd be afraid of the people and places He encountered. And He didn't only see them. Over and over again: He touched them. I do choose. Jesus stretched out His hand. 'Come.'If Jesus is the embodiment of God's will on earth, then it's clear what His will is for us as His church, His people. When we approach people who seem lonely or sad, do we offer them a Word from our Lord Jesus. Give them a kind smile. Tell them of His great love for them? --Take Me Out of the Dark, My Lord ~~
-"He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases." --[Matthew 8:17]- 
~~I woke up one morning with a headache from my stressful work the day before. My initial reaction was to cry out, "Jesus, please take away this pain!" A few minutes later when I rose from bed, my headache was gone just as easily as I'd cried out.
There are times when answers to my prayers do not manifest as soon as I want them to, so it still surprises me when I experience instant relief from Jesus. But the New Testament is filled with stories of how Jesus showed compassion to the sick and suffering, and often they received their healing immediately. When Jesus touched the hand of Peter's mother-in-law who was nursing a high fever, immediately the fever left her (Matthew 8:14-15). Or there was that instance when He told the crippled man to rise and pick up his mat. The man quickly jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out of the scene, leaving everyone astonished (Mark 2:1-12). Jesus cares for all of us--men, women, young, old, privileged, underprivileged. Jesus was crucified on the Cross for the forgiveness of our sins and the healing of our sicknesses and diseases. When we cry out to Him the pain may be gone right away or it may come much later. But one this is for sure, Jesus is always concerned with our well-being. ~~MY MOTHER ended up in the hospital several years ago. My family camped for hours in Intensive Care [ICU]- waiting room. We didn't want to leave in case the Doctor came to speak to us or allowed us to visit her, even for just 10 minutes. And we weren't alone--the room was full of worried people.
Then my cousin Barbara walked in with a basket full of snacks--enough for everyone. What a blessing she was! We shared the goodies with the other folks and got to talking. We learned about their sick loved ones, which enabled us to pray for each other. Ever since, I have given food baskets to friends who are visiting people in the hospital. Baskets of snacks might not heal the sick, but they ease worried hearts. Our Lord is always looking at our hearts. ------DON'T PANIC!
~~The Lord is very patient with his children. He actually invites us, "Bring forth your strong reason" (Isaiah 41:21/ NKJV), meaning that it is fine to have moments of questioning. We might receive some sudden, awful news; the death of a loved one, a pending divorce of a son or daughter, the unfaithfulness of a mate. In such moments, God sends the Holy Spirit to bring us comfort, ease our pain and settle our hearts. Our Lord feels every jolt of pain, fear, and panic that strikes us. God sees every detail of your crisis, and He sees all the life-problems pressing in on you. Those who pray and wait on Him with calm faith are never in any real danger. Moreover, he knows your panicky thoughts, and yet His command to you holds true, "Don't panic or get ahead of Me. You are to do nothing but pray and rely on Me. I honor everyone who puts his trust in Me. You are Mine. I hold you in the palm of My nail-pierced hands." Consider these words God has given to his church: "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths" (Proverbs 3: 5-6).
Unbelief is deadly, its after effects tragic. We face dire consequences if we try to extricate ourselves from our trials instead of trusting God to see us through. Jesus came to break our chains of legalism and deliver us from our shackles. But first we must admit our sin. When we confess our unbelief and then cast our future, our freedom, and our deliverance wholly into Jesus' care, He will arrive on time.
