Demi, i know that you used Dr David harvie Austin, i cant seem to find the website, do you know about how he does the removals and if he tests to see if theres any mercury left in the mouth etc. I phoned another dentist, El essaway, he doesnt use diamondlite and he does compatibality testing. he disagrees that diamondlite is the safest stuff to use. He also says he is the only dentist that makes sure there is no more mercury left in the mouth, he uses a special machine. He says that alot of people who dont get this test done still end up ill. I dont know what to do, he says to go to him to get the filling out and test the mouth and go to another dentist for diamondlite fillings, its never easy. Also it would mean 2 consultation fees.

Hi Dawn.

That's a tricky one. I don't think Austin checks the mouth for remaining mercury with a machine. For removal he uses:

dental dam
oxygen
body covering
face covering
goggles
wet eye patches
suction (I think)

He was trained under Hal Huggins and believes that diamondlite is the safest. He can arrange an appointment immediately with biolab (providing they are open, of course) so long as you ask him for one. It costs £50 for sensitivity test to the diamondlite.

He doesn't check the vapour reading from the fillings, but does check the voltage and removes the fillings in that order, not crossing the centre of the mouth. He uses non-adrenalin injections and as much natural products as possible.

I don't know anything about the testing with a machine. I hope someone else can give you input on that. Did this dentist tell you what he does use so that you can check it out?

Hi Demi, i think he called it vega test. It checks for any mercury vapour in the tooth dentine. Can i just ask you the prices for xrays, consultation of your dentist, and are there any extra costs, cos Dr EL , whatever his name is charges £150 for sedation, its the only way he operates, that is £150 per hour.thanks.

He told me he doesn't fill a tooth until the machine reads that there is zero mercury vapours and it takes time. He does seem really thorough, but he doesn't believe in diamondlite and he has a money back garantee if you dont get well. I worked it out its going to cost £600 for 2 small fillings, i have already paid out loads of money already. Im not keen on the concious sedation bit costing £150.

I don't know what Austin charges for sedation - not even sure if he does it (not something I asked as I prefer to be awake).

I didn't pay extra for x-rays, as far as I know. A small filling costs about £130. A large filling about £250. Tooth extraciton about £325. Consultation was £130, if I remember correctly.

I don't know how he determines if there is mercury left in the tooth. That is an important question.

The machine is called a vapour analyser. He sounds really good, pity he doesn't use diamondlite then he would be perfect.

You could call David Cowan and see if he uses the vapour machine, or you could have this dentist put in temporary fillings after he has removed the mercury and then go to Austin to have the diamondlite - or to Charlotta Hahn. She is much cheaper than Austin (£80 an hour) and so if you already had the fillings removed, she could easily remove the temporary ones and put diamondlite in. I don't know if she can refer you for a compatibilty test, though, but you could ask her.

I don't know if that is correct, but her address if you need to trace the number is
77 Harley Street
London

Biolab, if you want to be tested, is just around the corner (easy to walk too). They only test on referral, so she or another dentist or doctor would have to refer you for the sensitivity test.

The prices I gave from her were last year's, so they might have gone up a little. I talked to her on the phone and she was really nice, but didn't use the safeties in removing amalgam. But she does use diamondlite and very reasonably priced.

Hi Dawn. I have been thinking. Does this dentist insist on sedation and get the £150 for it? What is the material he uses instead of diamondlite? Has he told you so you can verify if it is better? He sounds a little like the dentist I saw before this one, who believed he was calling the shots, when they are supposed to be working for us. He wouldn't tell me what he was using.

I think we could really do with some input from those more knowledgeable than us on the merits of this machine. I have about 8 amalgams left to replace, but from what you say, I don't think I would like to see this dentist but rather stick with Austin, but I don't want to influence you either way because I don't know how important this machine is or if it could make all the difference to your recovery.

I will find out this week how Austin checks to make sure there is no mercury left in the mouth. As he is so very thorough, I'm sure he must check it. I will let you know.

Hi Demi, let me know what Austin says, thanks.
I may just go with him anyway, it seems more straight foreward and i want Diamondlite fillings really because they seem to suite most people.

Hi Demi, i rang Austin this morning, i think il go with him, i didn.t mention the machine because he was in a rush. He says i dont need an assesment, only the 2 fillings replaced. He's charging me £300 for 2 teeth. The other dentist with the machine would work out over £600 for 2 teeth because they only used concious sedation and do the teeth all in one go. Its £150 every hour for the sedation. I dont like the idea of this either.

Hi Dawn. I think Austin is a good choice, as he was trained under Hal Huggins, uses all safeties, diamondlite and doesn't insist on sedation (never even mentioned it to me, and I am phobic of the dentist). Also he's reasonably priced, even for London. I don't think he uses the vega-machine-thing, but he does know what he is doing. He hasn't used amalgam since the 80's.

Hi Dawn. You have to go with who you're happiest with, even if it costs more money or you have to travel etc. I personally decline any form of sedation for dental work as I like to be fully awake and conscious. And I have to travel alone afterwards. I also prefer having a little bit of work done at one time i.e. one quadrant at a time. Austin removes them in voltage quadrant order - i.e. does the quadrant with the highest voltage readings first. This is Hal Huggins approach, but that doesn't mean it's the only valid approach.

Where does the dentist refer you for a test? Is it biolab? It's true that diamondlite isn't the best for everyone. Does he arrange for you to have a multi-test? I got a single test done at Biolab for diamondlite. It was a blood test. Has he told you why he doesn't believe diamondlite is the safest?

Hi Demi, he sends you for a test, he says around the corner from him. When i said about diamondlite being the best for most people he said i was misinformed. He did say that if i get it he would use it.
I rang him today and asked about the mercury vapour machine, i asked if he could test my mouth for mercury vapours and nothing else. he said he would and if there was mercury vapours then he could get it out without taking the composite filling out. He wasnt very clear, i can hardly understand him. Im not sure that i'l bother with him. I made an appt wuth Austin for monday for 2 fillings.

Hi Dawn,

I'm glad your taking Demi's advise. She seems to be very wise and knowlegable. You don't want to experienced what I experienced. Even though my dentist was suppose to do the Huggins protical I can't understand why he did not put in the Diamondcrown or Diamondlite along with the Diamondlink (cement), and Diamondbond (I think this is the etching gel) from Biodent Labs. Instead he put in the filtrex supreme direct white composites. These particular composites have estrogen behaving substances called Bis-phenol A in them which can cause breast cancer and all kinds of hormonal problems. Iv'e heard that there are other white composites that even have flouride in them, I think these are called the Fuji composites. So I'm glad your persisting to get Diamondlite.

I also agree with Demi that it is not a good idea to get IV sadation. I was put to sleep for a 9 hour surgery and woke up with Lingual and Inferior Alveolar nerve damage. I would not wish this upon my worst enemy!!! This is dayly excusiating pain and numbness. Some people have even lost their taste. I heard of people who had this for 13 years and the pain was so bad that some have committed suicide over it. In the middle of the surgery, I remember waking up every time the dentist injected me with the needle about 5 times. If I were awake I could have said STOP; THIS HURTS!!! But I was helpless. My suggestion is to never get sadated if you can possible avoid it!!!

I never feelt comfortable about being sadated in the first place, but I had no choice. There was so much damage and bone loss, that about 5-8 dentist over a year and a half period were too scared to work on me in Canada and the U.S. This dentist was the only one that I know of that would not refuse to work on me. By the time I was going to have the surgery, I was very sick with mercury and heavy metal toxicity. It was told to me that it would be too much trauma on my body if I didn't get all the amalgams and other heavy metals all out at once while being sadated. Since time was running out and I feelt I was going to die within a few months, I decided to get the surgery.

Although I feel great as far as the Huggins safe protical for mercury and other heavy metal removal, I have to puree all my foods and eat them at room temperature. If food is too hot, too cold, has any sugar or salt in it, or is too hard, the pain would send me through the roof!!! Even brushing my teeth is painful!

Thank God that certain herbs and just with 2 acupuncture treatments, I found a great improvement compared to before. I need about 4 more treatments before most or all the pain is gone though. I noticed that most people who went on pharmaceutical drugs and/or had surgery are the people that got worse and for more years.

God bless you and I hope your experience will be a much better one!!

Thanks Scarlet for the advice, i dont like the idea of concious sedation, he doesnt do anything else, he didnt give me a choice, it should be my choice as im paying him.
I have an appt with David Austin for Monday for 2 fillings, im going to also ask for a panoramic xray for cavitations ( i know they arnt very clear on cavitations but i cant afford a cavitate scan, it costs £300) I wont get this done yet, il wait a few months and if it shows anything i will have the cavitations cleared out, hopefully.

Austin says he doesn't use the vega because he is dubious about it's merits and considers it more of a diagnastic tool. He says that replacing the fillings doesn't remove all the mercury from the tooth. He says it's impossible and the mercury will be in the tooth for the rest of its life, and in our bodies to some degree, but that after time, depending how successful our detox, our bodies will go from toxic to a level that it can control.

I don't know if this is right/wrong but this is his view.

I had a filling with diamondlite this week, and it was quite a lengthy process. He isolates the tooth, then makes sure it is clean, puts ozone in the hole to kill bacteria and dries the area to make sure no saliva gets in.

This is quite hard on the surrounding gums and my lips got very dry. So, I recommend getting some lipsalve or bonjela something as mine have chapped now because of the dryness.

He was happy to do the filling without an injection, and some dentists get stroppy about that, and said I could have it any time if the pain got bad.

Demi, it makes sense what Austin says about mercury still in the teeth after removal, a tooth is like a sponge apparently.

Hi, I've read the thread and responses here and I was wondering the following:

1. What is the rationale for diamondlite being safer than any other material considering that (a) we don't know it's EXACT make up and (b) other materials can be easily tested for their compatibility.

2. How can Dr H-Austin clean cavitations when he doesn't have the correct diagnostic tools available (cavitat scan).

3. if you accept that mercury vapour can remain in the dentinal tubules after amalgam has been removed then how can a dentist be sure he has done the right job without using a mercury vapour analyser?

Also, what price do you put on your health. I would not necessarily be guided by the price of a dentist (I appreciate some are very expensive) but who you feel most comfortable with. I would ask what Dr H-Austin has actually done in his role as President of the British Mercury Free Dental association. It is actually websites like this that are promoting more awareness.

I know that sedation may be daunting but this is surely to make the dentist be able to do the best job possible. Also consider that damaged nerves can happen when a patient is awake or asleep.

I only make these points from my own experiences. I would be happy to discuss them further with anyone and likewise would be grateful if anybody has any further, useful information to add.

Ray

You make valid points, Ray. I have just come to the conclusion that there is no perfect dentist. We have to go with the one we feel most comfortable with. I believe it is wrong to force a patient to be sedated and therefore any dentist who insists on it is not a choice I would make. It involves drugging, which may have adverse effects on the patient, and induces temporary amnesia with effects lasting up to 24 hours. I believe it is irresponsible to enforce this. Patient choice should always be a priority.

PS This is only my opinon, and I wouldn't like to say one way or another if this dentist is the best or not. He may be the absolute best. I had general anaesthetic for a tooth extraction once and I wouldn't choose anything like that again. Others have to come to their own conclusions. In that way we can only blame ourselves if we make the wrong decision.

Hi RayGee, and Bex,

RayGee,

It is true that you can get nerve damage while you are awake. But because I was sadated I was not alert enough to grab the dentist arm and say, " Stop it" and then pull the needle out as soon as I feelt it hit the nerve!!! Iv'e read some horrible stories about people who just submitted to this abuse even though they were awake, just because the dentist said not to worry. Well maybe the dentist didn't have anything to worry about because he wasn't the victim, but the patients had alot to worry about!!! Even after the patients were screaming to stop, the dentist injected these people at least 2 more times causing even more excusiating pain (Lingual and inferior alveolar nerve damage)!!! I think if I was awake I would have defended myself everyway I could, and probably would have walked out in the middle of the procedure. Unfortunately I could not defend myself since I was sadated. I awakened approximately 5 times from the injections. I remember saying something like, " Oh no, the needle again?!" with a groggy voice.

I don't believe I would have awaken every time I was injected if this was a normal procedure. I practically lived in the dentist chair since I was about 6-7 years old and know by now that the injection is suppose to be only a slight pinch!!! I strongly believe I could have at least minimize the degree of nerve damage if I were awake to stop the dentist from injecting me so many times.

RayGee and Bex,

Type www.google.com. Then type in the google search, Biodent laboratory online.

Then click to, " Productnew," or click to "Diamondcrown."

Then click to, "Biocompatibility"This will tell you WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GENERAL AND INDIVIDUAL BIO-COMPATIBILITY. This is very informative. There are alot of holistic and biological dentists out there who aren't intirely holistic after all. Just because your Individual bio-compatibility test says that you are least reactive or your not allergic to a particular dental material doesn't mean you are Generally bio-compatible to it. General bio-compatibility means it is safe for you and the general public because it is a non toxic Dental material!!! My question is this; whats the point in removing toxic dental materials only to replace them with other toxic materials???

Click to, "Diamond slide show"This is THE TEST RESULTS OF THE DIAMONDCROWN, DIAMONLITE, DIAMONDLINK, AND DIAMONDBOND.

Click to, " Composite resin toxicity"for COMPARISONS BETWEEN BIODENT PRODUCTS AND OTHER DENTAL MATERIALS.

Click to, "Glass and resin modified glass ionomers toxicity."

Click to, "Flouride toxicity links,"

Click to, "Scientific References,"SCIENTIFIC REFERENCES THAT ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO READ!"

Also check out www.pubmed.com for more information on dental materials.

Click to HOW TO RESPOND TO THOSE IN DOUBT, to my 2nd POST by SCARLET in this mercury section of the forum. There you will find information on dental materials.

Type in the google word search, "Dr. Huggins." Click to "Dr.Huggins.com," Then click to," LIBRARY." Click to, "DENTAL MATERIALS IN YOUR MOUTH." Click to, "CROWNS- CERAMIC/ PORCELAIN." Bex, this is where you will find the information about alluminum oxide in porcelain dental materials. If you scroll up and down on that page you will find information about many toxic dental materials. I really like the Huggins protical for mercury and heavy metal removal, his nutritional program, his informative books and videos, and the Individual bio-compatibility tests. I believe he should take more consideration to acknowledge the General bio-compatibility of a particular dental material though.

You can also go to the google search and type in questions about toxic dental materials and you'l get a whole lot of information there as well! Theres numerous web sites on the toxicity of mercury amalgams especially!!!

I noticed its getting more and more difficult to find alternative medicine web sites now. I know it is strange how I wrote how to find these websites, but it is the only way to get to them now. If you have any trouble in finding these websites than please let me know!

Bex, I don't blame you for your confusion! I too have been getting different answers as well. Thats why I research everything someone tells me before I believe it. If I read the same thing over and over again about a certain dental material by repretable alternative healthcare professionals I'll begin to believe it. If I only read it once then I won't believe it until I heard it more times. If I hear it from any mainstream dentist or doctor I won't believe it at all even if I heard it a thousand times before. Why? Because through my experiences I have only gotton worse and believed I would have died if I keept taking their advise!!! I believe that all their after is your pocket book!!!

Bex, I hope this will help you!!! Good luck!
