---Thank You, Lord Jesus, For Always Being......

~~The most beautiful 1920s lithograph of the Sacred Heart of Jesus hangs in my office, right above my computer. I bought it more than twenty years ago at a huge flea market. I almost didn't see it leaning against a bunch of broken frames when I passed the open truck. I asked the vendor if I could take a closer look, and he dragged it out from the back say, "Wow, I didn't even know I had this."

I brushed grime from the glass and uncovered Jesus's beautiful eyes. They drew me in and I felt I had to have it for my little apartment. The seller looked at me curiously, surprised that a young woman would want a religious antique. "What are you going to do with it?" he asked.

"Pray," I answered.

I paid ten dollars for it, priceless now, decades later, and hundreds, thousands of prayers later. My eyes have spent countless hours locked on His--sometimes, more times simply "being." I pray with words. I pray without words. I pray with intention, with frustration, with confusion, with understanding, with peace. I pray with sorrow. I pray with gratitude. I pray. ~~
