You can use algin now as it merely soaks up the mercury; it doesn't chelate and thus expose the body to more mercury, perhaps too much mercury. I have however found my body seems to naturally detox faster with algin. I can only assume this is because my body believes it can cope with more mercury than before and so speeds up the natural process -- I get faster and more frequent "ups and downs".

4) I have taken huge quantities of ALA (600 mg) for weeks at a time and had no ill effect. Could this mean mercury isn't even my problem? Does this mean when I try to chelate after mercury removal that I will be able to tolerate ALA?
For one week a while back I took 150mg of ALA a day and had no ill effects. Later I took ALA with the cutler protocol, 50mg (that may be too much to start with -- it was for me) every 4 hours, and it affected me so much I decided to stop and start again at a much lower dosage. I'm yet to start again.

When I first tried it I think as I the level of ALA in my blood level died down after a while (4 hours) there wasn't enough in my blood stream to actually do much chelating.

I'd wait a while, detox with other supplements, and use ALA when you feel your body is ready as ALA is a extremely potent chelator when used with the culter protocol and so may be too much for you at the beginning.
