Bring the Troops Home

On October 6, 2019, the White House posted a statement from the Press Secretary announcing that the nation of Turkey would be taking over the fight against resurgent ISIS forces in Syria as the U.S. will be pulling out. The statement read, in part:

Today, President Donald J. Trump spoke with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey by telephone. Turkey will soon be moving forward with its long-planned operation into Northern Syria. The United States Armed Forces will not support or be involved in the operation, and United States forces, having defeated the ISIS territorial ‘Caliphate,’ will no longer be in the immediate area.

[…] Turkey will now be responsible for all ISIS fighters in the area captured over the past two years in the wake of the defeat of the territorial “Caliphate” by the United States.

This announcement sent shockwaves throughout Washington and the political establishment.

Globalists who run the Deep State look to the United Nations and UN Security Council Resolutions (UNSC) to justify sending U.S. troops overseas in the name of fighting the now-18-years old “War on Terror” in order – as has been the excuse from Internationalists for over a century – to “make the world safe for democracy.” No longer are the wars that the U.S. gets involved in ones declared by Congress, as the Constitution requires, nor do we fight them with the objective of winning. Instead, they are fought on a perpetual basis with ever-changing objectives.

For example, in the case of Iraq, no formal Declaration of War was ever issued by Congress, instead Congress bequeathed its powers to the Executive Branch through an authorization for use of force legislation that gave the President the latitude to send troops if he so desired. The White House did, and cited various UNSC Resolutions to justify its invasion of Iraq and subsequent regime change.

The White House claimed that the Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction and that if they were given to terrorists this could lead to another attack worse than 9/11. Iraq's dictator Saddam Hussein was toppled from power and later found hiding in a hole in the ground, and a new pro-Western democratic government was installed. However, no WMDs were found nor any ties linking Saddam to Al-Qaeda and those responsible to 9/11. Nevertheless, President Bush declared mission accomplished but did not order troop withdrawals. With Iraq left in shambles, the objective changed to nation building, necessitating more troops and private contractors to be sent. However, new threats that did not exist before emerged; Al-Qaeda in Iraq and later the Islamic State (ISIS) arose, necessitating even more U.S. troops to continue the fight against the new terrorist groups. Sixteen years after the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, U.S. troops are still in Iraq, as well as Afghanistan and Syria. The wars never end.

Horrified at the thought of bringing our troops home and only fighting when it directly affects our homeland and national security, neoconservative U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) tweeted the following shortly after hearing of the president’s decision to withdraw from Syria:

I don’t know all the details regarding President Trump’s decision in northern Syria. In process of setting up phone call with Secretary Pompeo. If press reports are accurate this is a disaster in the making.

President Trump shot back with a volley of tweets on October 7, 2019; tweeting:

The Kurds fought with us, but were paid massive amounts of money and equipment to do so. They have been fighting Turkey for decades. I held off this fight for [...] almost 3 years, but it is time for us to get out of these ridiculous Endless Wars, many of them tribal, and bring our soldiers home. WE WILL FIGHT WHERE IT IS TO OUR BENEFIT, AND ONLY FIGHT TO WIN. [Emphasis added].

Shortly after, Trump again tweeted:

I was elected on getting out of these ridiculous endless wars, where our great Military functions as a policing operation to the benefit of people who don’t even like the USA. [...] The endless and ridiculous wars are ENDING!

The president is correct. And as the Commander-in-Chief of our nation’s armed forces, he has the constitutional authority to order the troops to come home.

The same day as Trump’s tweets, constitutionalist U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) tweeted his support for the president; saying:

I stand with @realDonaldTrump today as he once again fulfills his promises to stop our endless wars and have a true America First foreign policy.

Hours later, Senator Paul further tweeted:

So many neocons want us to stay in wars all over the Middle East forever. @realDonaldTrump is absolutely right to end those wars and bring the troops home.
