Hi, I know there has been a lot of good information on the other posts (which have been very helpful) but I am just wondering what the best possible things to do and take prior to having your amalgams taken out. I live in Hawaii and have called and talked to the many so called biologic dentists here and I am not impressed. I am going to try to get in and see Dr. Moralas but I am not sure when that is going to be possible and It will be cheeper to fly and get it done by him than staying here and having a dentist here and do it. So again, my question is... What can I do concerning diet, supplements etc. I would try and excersice if I could but I have barely enough energy to walk. I am 5'8'' and weigh 120lbs (not sure if that has any difference in the supplements I take or the amounts. thanks =o)

The best thing I ever did in this whole illness was buy a copy of Andy Cutler's Amalgam Illness. This explains what mercury does to the body, what to do about it, and what supplements to take as basics, and others to take if you have certain symptoms. It also explains how to chelate safely. It is quite expensive, but certainly worth it, as you can go horribly wrong with mercury toxicity and do more damage if you take the wrong things. I think Russ, the owner of this website, also sells the book. Maybe he'll post the link.
As a minimum you should be taking Vit C, B, E, milk thistle, magnesium, flax seed oil, possibly selenium, zinc - these are just to offset the damaging effects of mercury in the body. If you have very little energy you may want to look at getting your thyroid and adrenals tested - these and other hormones are normally downregulated in mercury toxicity, and getting on the proper meds can make a big difference.
The other biggie is diet. You need to eliminate all sugar, caffeine, gluten, alcohol, dairy, and probably grains and starchy vegetables which get broken down into sugar in the gut. This will stop feeding the candida, which is common with mercury toxicity. Eating just lean meat, non-starchy vegetables, eggs, nuts can give you a big energy boost after a week. It did for me. It sounds draconian, and it is tough at first, but I have been doing this for 9 months now and am totally used to it. I have found I have lost my taste for sweet things, even fruit. You may get some die-off with this diet, but really all it does is keep the candida at bay while you get your amalgams out and chelate. I have heard of many people get worse after they have aggressively treated the candida and released more mercury in doing so. Get rid of the mercury first, then go after the candida.
These are just the basics of living with mercury toxicity. It is hard. But I would definitely recommend getting the book - for me it was the first step to getting well.
Good luck.

The best supplement I took was Algin. It helped alot. I took Algin for about a week before I had my first seven amalgams removed and felt pretty durn good during and after. Then I ran out of Algin (I recordered too late and went about four days without it). I got my other three amalgams out at that time and I felt nasty. My tremors were terrible for two days afterward. Once my Algin arrived and I started back on it, I started feeling better and my tremors are almost gone.

I'm thrilled to hear the algin worked for you. It was a staple of my diet when I was detoxing and it was amazing. For those interested, here's a place to order: Algin
