--FEAR gripped the disciples as the winds and waters raged about them. Death was nearly certain and immediately at hand. With a word, Jesus calmed the storm. The disciples were shocked and amazed. Who could do such a thing as this, they pondered.
Jesus alone could do this. No ordinary man could command obedience from the wind and waves. Only the Word that spoke Creation into existence, now made flesh, could. Just as only He could die the death sinners deserved and then bring them new life.
The Christ of God is the one who has done exactly that for us. He has calmed the storm of sin. He stilled the tumultuous waves with His gracious forgiveness. No longer is eternal death imminent. It has been destroyed. Eternal life is presently ours. The peace of Christ calms our stormy thoughts and comforts us in time of doubt and fear.
Christ the Creator is Lord of Heaven and Earth. We call upon Him when troubles crash against us. To Him, we cry when death is near. He sets our fears aside. He calms us with His Word. He stills the storm. In Christ, nothing can harm us. Even death is defeated. Who is this who can do much great things. It is JESUS, the CHRIST. ~~
