what makes this so hard to deal with is that no-one around me understands what im going through, they think im ill from something else, i told my boyfriend that i need to get the metals out of my body and he said its best to leave them where they are, he just doesn't understand, everyone i know has a mouthfull of metal and they are leading good lives, thats why they dont understand my symptoms.
Russ and Laura are lucky in a way that they had eachother when going through symptoms. I feel so alone with this, thank god i found this website and others.
Does anyone feel like this?

Yes, I feel like that all the time. I'm very lucky that I have supportive parents. Others do not understand and the sufferings it causes are invisible and extreme. Becuase they cannot see evidence, you end up coming across as over dramatic, or neurotic, which then increases the feeling of isolation and confusion.

It's unreal. I know, there are many people out there doing fine with the metal in their mouth. I do not know why there are those of us who get so horribly sick from it. I guess it depends on the basic immune system and the individuals ability to excrete mercury. Some do it naturally, others can't.

I retain mercury, so it just builds up in my system. It's good you are able to get on this website and find some understanding and support, because we all need it and to hear others are gong through it does help (though you wouldn't wish it on anybody).

Hang in there

Thanks Bex, at least we all have eachother. My mum is about the only one who really understands this illness. I think i retain mercury aswell. Before i became sick with this i was one of those who couldn't even take a paracetomol or cold remedy without symptoms, its just me.

It's the same for me. I don't know what my family think, whether they believe me or not. I know my friends don't, not really. They aren't supportive and change the subject when I bring it up. Because a lot of people have fillings are aren't sck, and because the dentists still use it, I think it's hard for people to believe us.

It's a tough thing to deal with, and some days I wonder myself if it's really mercury causing my problems - even though I know it is. Then there is my doctor who, if she believes it (has never said it isn't and encouraged me to get my root canal tooth out, which is more than some doctors will do) can't support me because she's NHS.

My mother is really ill, and I am convinced it's from the fillings, but my parents don't want to hear about it. This is painful to deal with, but I just have to accept I can't make decisions for other people, even though it hurts and I think what a waste of her life not to get her teeth out and get better.

I try not to get angry or bitter at the dentists who did this, but some days I am so mad because of the suffering they have caused my mother and my family in so many ways - but mainly because that's the pain. It breaks my heart to see my mother how she is, so bad I can't look at her sometimes, all the time knowing dentists did it. I honestly don't know what I would say to her dentist if I met him. I can't promise I would be civil, because there is so much hurt and I blame him, even though I know it is not his fault. But she is so sick and didn't desrve to be because she is one of the kindest women anyone could hope to meet. I have tears in my eyes right now thinking about what dentists have done to her, and I just have to switch off and think of something els ewhen I get to this stage because it hurts too much. If she would only accept it and do something about it, then it would be easier to deal with.

Its the same in UK. My doctors thought I was either stressed, mad, hypochondriact or an attention seeker. My friends just thought I was making it up. My dentist was convinced that mercury was safe and that I had some other illness. My eventual route to recovery started from a "joke" story in the Fortean Times magazine - it described my symptoms exactly as chronic mercury poisioning! Whats wrong with these people??

You're so right.

Laura and I are so lucky that we just happened to go through this at the same time in our lives, and I'm so glad I had a great friend who believed it and was willing to take action when I was.

I do feel sorry for others who don't have someone to believe them, but take heart. At some time in the near future, everyone will believe this. Just keep spreading the word.

Everyone here who is going through this are pioneers who are blazing the trail that other's will follow for years to come. Even though we didn't choose to be on this heroic path, few heros ever do. Leaders often walk alone.

Hang in there.

Yeah, I feel this too. I've just stopped trying to convince people, although I do mention it when I mention I've been ill. I've stopped making excuses for why I feel like I do; they'll just have to deal with it. I'm just concentrating on getting well.

When no-one, or only a few, around you believes you and no-one fully understands you, I often find myself doubting it too. But then I just have to think back to what I was like, and what I'm like now, and what I feel like after I've taken some algin and what I felt like after prolonged chlorella intake.

It's a good point you make. I know plenty of others who seem fine with their amalgam fillings. Either it's yet to fully affect them, or maybe it only affects those who have sensitive nervous systems. I know I've always been sensitive, in both the physical and emotional realms.

Perhaps it is due to sensitivity. But I believe it's a good thing. I'd rather be sensitive to it, realise it's affecting me, remove it and feel better, than have it slowly decrease my quality of life, to such an extent where I don't realise something's actually wrong.

But then I am only in my mid-twenties whereas the rest of you seem a lot older, so maybe the sensitivity's merely related to me, and perhaps it affects everyone to a large extent when they've had their fillings in for 40 or so years, but only some recognise there's something wrong.

It's one to ponder over.

I've had no success with the NHS either. I even mentioned to one that the german and swedish recognise this, and he fobbed it off with "well the germans have two times the amount of medicine we have!", as if that nullified the possibility of mercury leaking from amalgams, or that having that amount of medicine was even bad.

I went to my local hospital to get my gut looked at and I described it to them, they at least admitted I may be sensitive to the mercury.

I talked to one private dentist, and they fully recognised the amalgam problem, and even had a tick box on their registration form stating amalgam remove as the reasion for joining. However, I could not afford to go private, so I went with my NHS dental practice. I didn't even mention why I wanted them removed. I didn't fancy an argument, I just wanted them removed. That probably wasn't the best of moves, but I only had 3 fillings and my symptoms didn't seem as bad as some others.

I'm 30, so not a lot older than you I had serious problems within 2 years of havng amalgam and braces, so for me I think it's ultra-sensitivity.

Steve, you were lucky to find a dentist here who knows or understands mercury symptoms, theres not many, even mercury free dentists dont really understand, my one didn't even know what DMSA was and he had never ever met anyone as ill as me. I havn't ever met one person in the flesh who knows what im going through.

This is so unbelievable for people to think that dentists we have trusted with our dental health for so many years could be responsible for all this illness. I myself didn't want to believe it. And it is the same for candida, my doctor gets angry if I mention candida or yeast....but as my ND says it is the metal toxicity that causes the candida and many other preventable "new" diseases also.

The sensitivity must be inherited. All my siblings are affected physically and emotionally, one sister is so mentally ill, I am worried what will ever happen to her.

I believe the sensitivity is inherited. There was a guy on a group I was on whose three daughters had OCD, but he wouldn't even entertain the thought of it being from mercury sensitivity as he said it would make the condition better if anything - what people believe is just incredible. But I do think an inherited sensitivity is most likely why some conditions seem to be passed down the family line - same genes respond same.

Inherited dispositions, including sensitivity, to certain things is well documented.

I'd be interested to know the amount of people who realise they're suffering from amalgam illness who would also categorise themself as sensitive people, in all senses of the word. Sensitivity and awareness of illness go hand in hand really. It goes without saying; if you're more sensitive in general you're definitely going to more sensitive to heavy metals.

Whether some people are just less sensitive, have fillings that aren't leaking as much, or have immune systems that are strong enough to remove heavy metals, I'm quite sure after prolonged exposure they'll be affected. If you're sensitive you'll notice it sooner, and perhaps you'll be affect by it to a greater degree.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic when I say this...

but what makes this so hard is that mercury can cause symptoms of isolation and hopelessness regardless of the situation you are in. If its bad you can feel isolated and hopeless even if you are with the person you love the most, and they understand what you are going through.

I think why some people don't get sick is both genetic, and due to the nature of the fillings themselves. Huggins mentioned the concept of oral galvanism, which is a electrical current that runs through the teeth (and releases mercury if you have fillings) and I think some people have stronger currents causing much more mercury to be released.

For me, my family has very strong physical genetics and they are very resistant to physical diseases, but they are very suseptible to anxiety and other mental disorders which mercury definitely triggers.

I have the yeast under control, and probably did have parasites, haven't been tested for them..but maybe I should. But I have heard that killing the candida may get rid of parasites too.

Reducing yeast populations and doing a colon cleanse has optimized my digestion, which is necessary to chelate metals out of our bodies..yeast holds on to mercury, they have an affinity for each other. As long as we have metal in our bodies the yeast will keep growing, it is our bodies' means of protecting us from the Hg, so I stick to a diet free of most gluten, dairy and sugar.

I did the psyllium/bentonite/caprol colon cleanse and it worked great for me. Have you done a candida cleanse?

This sensitivity issue really intrigues me, my whole family is emotional and high strung...my one sister is on so many meds and the other one is in a really bad state...it is so sad the neurolgical problems that this affliction is responsible for.

I always had a sensitive nose too, I thought I was part bloodhound ...I could literally smell milk that was about to go off when no one else could...and I am happy to say that is not the case anymore.
