Hi Sandi, yeah the body can chelate naturally once all amalgams are out (to a point). But some people prefer to reduce it faster with DMSA and also it can help symptoms (sometimes). It can also aggravate them too other times.

But most people's bodies are not overly well equipped to chelate mercury and need extra help. Problem is, sometimes mobilising mercury can make matters worse, which is why many now are using andy cutler's protocol to try and move the mercury without creating the random ups and downs in the process (creating more damage). That's why sulfur foods can make you feel worse as you found out. Just bounces it round more.

Many people, after about 6 months to a year after removal, can begin to get much worse out of the blue. Often feeling repoisoned. This is because once the last amalgam comes out, the mercury still in the organs from years of build up begins to automatically be dumped out of the organs and this is where people can really cop it. Its' like a leaking tap.

which is why it's a good idea to chelate if you can to try and lessen or avoid this "second stage of suffering". DMSA is a good one to use, but only chelates extracellular mercury. The one that removes organ mercury (intracellular) and brain mercury is lipoic acid. But this can only be used once blood/body levels of mercury are lower (from either waiting till they go down naturally, or using DMSA to bring them down faster).

And then you can use lipoic acid, but as far as I know, it's got to be used every 3 hours around the clock in order to keep a steady blood level of it and allow for safe removal of mercury. Used at low enough levels so the person can tolerate it. Some use as low as 10 mg or less at first before they are able to go up higher. Using it for 3 days every week or so.

That's just what I've read is the best way of doing it. So long as it's used no earlier than 3 months after a mercury exposure (amalgam removal etc). Or if there has been a bad redistribution from something, then a person may need to let that reaction subside first or use DMSA to try and reduce it before using ALA.
