Oregon Governor Kate Brown recently submitted a bipartisan budget proposal for the years 2019-2021 that includes a focus on behavioral health (addictions and mental health). A focus of the budget is investment in child health and Oregon's Coordinated Care Organizations, which is the state's approach to blending a wide range of health services under one program. In a recent interview, Kentucky's Governor Matt Bevin said that he supports parents who decide to vaccinate their children but also supports the right of parents to opt against vaccinating their children. He said he believes that such a decision should be left up to parents and not the government. "This is America. The federal government should not be forcing this upon people. They just shouldn't," Gov. Bevin told WKCT radio station in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Mar. 18, 2019.

Following the forced removal of four billboards sponsored by Vaccine Choice Canada in February 2019, we were inundated with requests for information. Of the many dozens of media inquiries, not one asked the most important question. Most reporters made their inquires out of a pre-determined set of assumptions; their position and perspective already cast. It was the rare exception when a reporter showed genuine curiosity and asked questions that indicated a desire to actually learn. The majority were simply looking to confirm previously held biases...

Our son was the one that we had many issues with and we felt very strongly that it was vaccine related. [When I was pregnant with my first child,] I never thought about [vaccines]. Never. In fact, I think from being the youngest child in the family, I just never thought about anything like that... We were married seven years before I got pregnant, so it was just excitement over a baby, I didn't think about any medical issues whatsoever, vaccines or anything even close. I was a high-risk pregnancy, so I had a really good doctor, but we never discussed vaccines. Ever.

Some doctors are scientists-just as some politicians are scientists-but most are not. As medical students they were filled full with information on biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and other sciences, but information does not a scientist make-otherwise, you could become a scientist by watching the Discovery channel. A scientist is somebody who constantly questions, generates falsifiable hypotheses, and collects data from well designed experiments-the kind of people who brush their teeth on only one side of their mouth to see whether brushing your teeth has any benefit.
