Hello everyone - just a note in case anyone is interested. I had a terrible time with my mercury fillings - headaches, lethargy etc for months. I felt awful. My holistic dentist recommended taking a heap of vitamin C powder and it really worked wonders pretty much overnight. Now Im worrying about all this BPA business!

Vitamin C is amazing.
I had three DMPS I.V.'s after my mercury amalgam removal. This was before I knew how harsh DMPS I.V.'s are.
Immediately after the DMPS, the doctor gave me 50 grams of Vitamin C as a drip I.V. and before it was finished, I felt great again, even better than before the DMPS started.
Vitamin C is certainly recommended as part of a mercury detox plan because it provides protection against the oxidative effects of mercury. Vitamin C is also displaced by mercury so it's important to have extra.
Thanks for the information.

Vitamin C is great. It is a antioxidant. Mercury is a oxidant. Alot of people get sick off of it, this is probably because it is a great chelator of copper. So those that are copper toxic will get a copper dump symptom. Almost all animals which like the exception of 4 make vitamin C. Scientists think that Vitamin C is actually a hormone more then a vitamin as it is what helps people respond to stress. Aparently somewhere in evolution we lost the ability to make it in our livers, this is also cited for the possible reason for our higher being in the animal kingdom as it will cause raised copper which is a neurotransmiter like mineral.

yes when I first started taking vitamin c I got very sick and didn't know why. THen I realised I waas copper toxic. Now that my copper levels are down I can take vitamin c fairly regularly. I am trying this other form of vitamin c at the moment called ester-c. Apparently its good, anyone tryed it?

I've taking ester c before I think it's at least 2x as expensive but supposed to be alot more effective.
There are a few followers of Linus Paulings work on mega dosing with vit c ... I read one of his books "how to live longer and feel better"
at one point in my life I rook 48 grams of bit c a day for 2 months to see if it would help my asthma (it did not); but I know I didnt get as sick as much during those 2 months <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Now I only take a moderate dose per day; ie ~ 5 grams.
oh I should mention that the most effective and echonomical (spelling) way I took the vit c was using powdered form ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate and putting in juice etc ...

I feel both benefits and bad side-effects when taking vitamin C so I'm trying to find some good info which contains alot of experience with correct dosing, side-effects and benefits in connection with mercury poisoning/detoxing. Whilst searching I found the below, a discussion amongst Dr.'s who mercury detox their patients and their opinion on vitamin C. Thought I'd post it here for anyone curious:
Dr. Freedenfeld: We use IV vitamin C along with glutathione after each phase of dental amalgam removals. I think it helps to remove the mercury that is inadvertently released from the tooth and surrounding bone during the drilling process. Vitamin C also reduces the charge of the mercury molecule and thus decreases the toxicity. So Hg++ → Hg+ → elemental Hg.
Dr. John Wilson: IV vitamin C has been a mainstay of detoxification of mercury for years. It is a weak chelator, but when used in high doses frequently, it can pull a lot of mercury. I know numerous patients who have tremendous benefit from IV-C when detoxing mercury.
Dr. Rozema: IV-C does a lot of things but removing mercury is not one of them. It is known that vitamin C as well as Thiamine (B-1) can be helpful in assisting the removal of lead from the brain when using EDTA, but I know of no study that speaks to vitamin C and mercury.
Dr. John Wilson: Though there've been no published studies to my knowledge that support the mercury chelation ability of Vitamin C, clinical experience of many physicians has supported the use of Vitamin C in detoxifying mercury. The ene-diol structure of Vitamin C would likely make it a weak chelator of mercury. It's anti-oxidant properties and the ease of inexpensively maintaining high serum levels of this vitamin make it an easy addition to any mercury detoxification program
Dr. Queen: Well, I’ve got a tremendous bibliography on high dose vitamin C, and this material certainly has a place in the treatment of the mercury toxic person. As demonstrated in many references, a primary benefit is its ability to greatly reduce any possible inflammatory response that may occur during amalgam removal and following chelation. The evidence for it being useful in excreting mercury is limited, although there is substantial evidence that it greatly reduces the toxic reactions of mercury. As per toxicity of the vitamin C itself, toxicity is limited but can be severe. The literature describes the occurrence of five deaths in 50 years. Body chemistry can identify those people at risk, which I highly recommend. The bottom line: I wouldn't want to proceed with a detoxification program without IV-C, but would definitely not administer without first determining risk through a comprehensive chemistry profile.

I take Vit c with bioflavonoids, usually 4-5000mgs a day with no ill effects. I'm also taking a powder called Camu Camu which is from the Amazonian rainforest. It is a light orange coloured fruit about the size of a lemon and contains the highest recorded amount of natural vit c known on the planet. I take a teaspoon a day and mix it with water. It tastes like sherbert!
