I've been reading about different symptoms in this forum. I have this crazy symptom that no one has ever been able to explain. I have a sensitivity to multi-vitamins. I used to be a rep for Shaklee, and would take the vita-lea only to find out that I broke out horribly. How can I rep something I can't take? So I quit multis. I don't have reactions to C, E, calcium/magnesium, zinc. I'm not so sure about the B's though.
I tried Enzymatic therapy's multi, only to have the same thing happen.
Could it be the mercury in my body that conflicts with it? I know I need to take multis, but my face looks like a 15 year old boys.
Anyone?

Hi TammyB,
I am not sure if this will help you much, but in my experience the more my illness progresses, the more foods (vitamins & supplements included) I become sensitive to. I have reactions to several different vitamins and supplements. My body feels as though it is progressively shutting down and can only cope with the absolute basics as it is busy trying to detox. Anything you put in your body, supplements included, can be an extra stress to it if you body just isn’t ready to handle it at that time.
As you have probably already figured out I would go back to basics, take a single vitamin at a time and a week later add another and so on and see how you react.
Also, once you have an idea of what you can take. You can try taking different vitamins on different days so your body is only dealing with one (or a couple) or vitamins at a time rather than a whole bunch of them at once.
Your reactions may also change over time. As an aside, I have just spent the last 4 days in bed in total agony because I ate something I knew I shouldn’t have (a chocolate bar). I guess I needed a reminder why I am restricting my foods etc..so much.
Good luck !

you sound sort of like I did, before I realised I was copper toxic as well as mercury. I was sensitive to vitamins, particularly zinc and copper itself as taking these vitamins antagonizes the excess copper deposits in your body. I use to suffer from much worse breakouts then I do now. Do you get any mental symptoms like racing thoughts and agravated nervous system? These definately suggest copper. I think mercury also contributes to an imbalance in zinc and copper levels.
If you do suspect you are copper toxic, then take zinc with every meal to reduce copper absorption. Also take taurine, molybdenum which help a lot.

It's common in mercury poisoning to be sensitive or intolerant of many medications/supplements. The way the mercury inteferes with the way the body processes food/supplements can be very bad to where the person can almost react to anything and everything. anything you take or try and somehow you wonder why you feel worse, or breakout as you are.
Along with mercury, is usually overgrowth of candida yeast inside the body. Normally kept at appropriate levels with a healthy immune system, the yeast is able to get out of control in an environment that is unhealthy (eg mercury) and then spread and give out its very own toxic wastes which add to the mercury toxicity.
Many of us have not much choice but to follow a strict candida diet in order to starve out some of the candida overgrowth, allowing the immunity to breath a bit easier, thus giving the immune system a boost and then mercury is easier dealt to. Candida can cause allergies and intolerances as well as the mercury.
Candida also absorbs mercury and can hold its own weight in the poison. Starving out candida will produce symptoms and may make you sick for a time as it begins to die. But it's worth it. Killing it outright with antifungal use can be dangerous, as antifungals act powerfully and usually blast the yeast cell open, releasing the contents of the yeast in large amounts (which often contain mercury), thus poisoning the person further. Not recommended, but sometimes has to be done to treat an acute case of candida.
Just a suggestion. I would definitely go on diet of no sugar, no yeast and no gluten grains, to allow some of your body to get at least a wee bit healthier (if you're not doing this already). It might also help your gut and might help the supplement intolerance. But obviously mercury is at the bottom of it.

P.S. Breaking out on the face can sometimes be a sign of detoxing!! So, it may not be intolerance to the supplements, but instead a detox reaction. Breakouts are common upon detoxing. Have had the same thing occur to me. But I'm not saying yours is definitely that, but it's worth a thought.
