---THE STUMBLING BLOCK~~

“Let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ -- this Jesus whom you crucified.”

Christ is not a name attached to Jesus of Nazareth; it is a title. I believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ -- the Anointed One, the Messiah. And I believe He is the Son of God. This understanding is at the center of the Christian faith and the reason a great deal of the pushback on the Christian faith focuses on Jesus. You can say He was a teacher, a miracle worker, a healer, and a wise man who impacted human history and get almost universal agreement. But He becomes a stumbling block when you assert that He was God’s Son, the Anointed One, the Messiah who died on the Cross for you and me. Yes, “the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Cor. 1:18 NIV®).

**THINK ABOUT IT
How do the descriptions “Anointed One,” “Messiah,” and “Son of God” help you understand the life and work of Jesus? How does the message of the cross bring to you the power of God?
