It could be why you are getting bad symptoms, especially as you had them done all at once - but at least you had some protection. This is what my dentist did, as far as I can remember:

warm wet patches on my eyes
covering of my entire face with only hole for my mouth
oxygen supply to my nose
thick covering over my entire body and hands
charcoal tablet under my tongue
dental dam
high suction

I didn't wash my clothes or hair afterwards though, as I had to travel almost 5 hours home and was very sore after having the tooth out and the bone drilled. It was a couple of days before I felt up to washing my hair as I was on painkillers., swollen and bruised. Next time, though, I will change and shower as soon as I get home. My coat was in the room when the filling was removed, and I'm thinking now maybe it has mercury on it too, and think I will wash it.
