The Book of Revelation could be entitled the Book of Homecoming, for in it we are given a picture of our heavenly home.
John's descriptions of the future steal your breath. His depiction of the final battle is graphic. Good clashes with evil. The sacred encounters the sinful. The pages howl with the shrieks of dragons and smolder with the coals of firey pits. But in the midst of the battlefield there is a rose. John describes it in Chapter 21:
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!"
John is old when he writes these words. His body is weary. The journey has taken its toll. His friends are gone. Peter is dead. Paul has been martyred. Andrew, James, Nathaniel...they are fuzzy figures from an early era.
As he hears the voice from the throne, I wonder, does he remember the day he heard it on the mountain? For it is the same John and the same Jesus. The same feet that followed Jesus up the mount so long ago now stand to follow him again. The same eyes that watched the Nazarene teach on the summit watch for him again. The same ears that heard Jesus first describe sacred delight listen to it revealed again.
In this final mountaintop encounter, God pulls back the curtain and allows the warrior to peek into the homeland. When given the task of writing down what he sees, John chooses the most beautiful comparison earth has to offer. The Holy City, John says, is like "a bride beautifully dressed for her husband."
What is more beautiful than a bride? One of the side benefits of being a minister is that I get an early glimpse of the bride as she stands at the top of the aisle. And I have to say that I have never seen an ugly bride. I've seen some grooms that could use an alteration or two, but never a bride. Maybe it is the aura of whiteness that clings to her as dew clings to a rose. Or perhaps it is the diamonds that glisten in her eyes. Whatever it is, there is the feeling that when you see a bride you are seeing the purest beauty the world can boast.
A bride. A commitment robed in elegance. "I'll be with you forever." Tomorrow bringing hope to today. Promised purity faithfully delivered.
When you read that our heavenly home is silimar to a bride, tell me, doesn't it make you want to go home?
The world I woke up to this morning couldn't be described as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband, could yours?
Part of the world to which I awoke was grieving. A teenager took his life in the predawn darkness. No note. No explanation. Just a dumbstruck mother and a bewildered father who will forever be hounded by questions they cannot answer.
Part of the world to which I awoke was disillusioned. Another national leader has been accussed of dishonesty. He blinked back tears and swallowed anger on network news. A generation ago, we would have given him the benefit of the doubt. Not now.
A part of the world to which I awoke this morning was devastated. A three-year-old's throat was cut open by her own father. A pre-med student was butchered and sacrificed by Satan worshipers. A husband of thirty years ran off with another man. (No, not a woman, a man.)
The old saint tells us that when we get home, God himself will wipe away our tears.
John says that someday God will wipe away your tears. The same hands that stretched the heavens will touch your cheeks. The same hands that formed the mountains will caress your face. The same hands that curled in agony as the Roman spike cut through will someday cup your face and brush away your tears. Forever.
When you think of a world where there will be no reason to cry, ever, doesn't it make you want to go home?
"There will be no more death..." John declares. Can you imagine it? A world with no hearses or morgues or cemeteries or tombstones? Can you imagine a world with no spades of dirt thrown on caskets? No names chiseled into marble? No funerals? No black dresses? No black wreaths?
If one of the joys of the ministry is a bride descending the church aisle, one of the griefs is a body encased in a shiny box in front of the pulpit. It's never easy to say goodbye. It's never easy to walk away. The hardest task in this world is to place a final kiss on the cold lips that cannot kiss in return. The hardest thing in this world is to say good-bye.
In the next world, John says, "good-bye" will never be spoken.
Tell me, doesn't that make you want to go home[b]?[/b] ---- The Applause of Heaven Max Lucado ~ ~
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
-Uppermost in God’s thoughts is man’s salvation. He expects Christians to have the same mindset. We've been charged with advancing His kingdom by sharing the gospel and discipling others. As His servants, we’re to focus on His agenda, not preoccupy ourselves with earthly concerns (2 Tim. 2:4).
To achieve His plan, God will open doors of service for each of us—in local churches, neighborhoods, workplaces, or foreign lands. Our part is to watch for opportunities and be ready to take an active role. Spiritual preparation includes prayer and a daily quiet time, plus accountability with other believers. Whether God assigns us major tasks or smaller ones, we must be in position and all set to say yes. When we answer His call, we will discover He has equipped us with everything that we need to fulfill our mission (2 Pet. 1:3).
The most important work in our world is to help with the Father’s redemptive plan: He is rescuing people from the power of sin, adopting them into His family, and transforming them from rebellious, self-centered beings into reflections of His obedient and loving Son Jesus. Those of us who have been the beneficiaries of God’s saving work have an obligation to assist in His plan to rescue others. We have a responsibility to prepare ourselves—by surrendering our desires for His, committing to know Him better, and obeying His directions.
The Lord has prepared work for each of us to do (Eph. 2:10). --We, the soldiers, are privileged a glimpse into the final battlefield. All Hell breaks loose as all Heaven comes forth. The two collide in the ultimate battle of good and evil. Left standing amidst the smoke and thunder is the Son of God, Jesus, born in a manger--now triumphant over Satan.
--Satan is defeated. Christ is triumphant. And we, the soldiers, are assured Victory, in Christ. -SITUATION ~ --John told Christians that in the end, God would triumph. Despite the obstacles, Christians face in this life, all who hold Jesus as their Lord will spend eternity in fellowship with God.
Finally sin will be destroyed. Death will die. Tears, anger and frustration will be gone. --- -INSPIRATION:
-Dare we imagine Heaven's dramatic reunions? **A soldier embracing the sharpshooter who killed him. **A daughter seeing her abusive but repentant father and holding him.
**A son encountering the mother who aborted him? No doubt some will. And when they do, forgiveness will flow like water over Niagara Falls.
"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb." (Isaiah 11:6) "God will wipe away every tear...there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying...for the former things have passed away" (Revelation 21:4).
No sins, no thieves, divorce, heartbreak, and no boredom. You won't be bored in Heaven, because you won't be the same 'you' in Heaven. Boredom emerges from soils that Heaven disallows. The soil of weariness: our eyes tire. Mental limitations: information overload dulls us. Self-centeredness: we grow disinterested when the spotlight shifts to others. Tedium: meaningless activity siphons vigor.
But Satan will take these weedy soils, to Hell with him, leaving you with a keen mind, endless focus, and God-honoring JOY. Are you looking for the day when God removes all evil? Throughout today, worship God and tell Him of your love for Him. As you encounter others who notice your joy, tell them about the future you have with Jesus. -Now I saw Heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called 'The Word of God'. And the armies in Heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 begins, “The Master himself will give the command. Archangel thunder! God’s trumpet blast! He will come down from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise. Then the rest of us who are still alive at the time will be caught up with them into the clouds to meet the Master. Oh, we’ll be walking on air. And there will be one huge family reunion with the Master. Reassure one another with these words!”

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
-“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” (Revelation 22:17)
One could not imagine a more clearcut invitation to receive God’s free gift of eternal life than this final climactic invitation of the Bible.. Anyone who is thirsting for the water of life may come and drink freely, for Jesus said, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink” (John 7:37). Whosoever will may come! “There is no respect of persons with God” (Romans 2:11, plus about seven other references), and the Scriptures abound with “whosoever” assurances.
“Whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). “Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die” (John 11:26). “Whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:43).. “Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God” (1 John 4:15).
“Jesus Christ the righteous: . . . is the propitiation . . . for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:1-2). Therefore, “by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life” (Romans 5:18).
Such promises as these (and many more in the Word of God) make it very clear that the substitutionary death of Christ is sufficient to “[take] away the sin of the world” (John 1:29), that salvation and eternal life are offered as a free gift of God’s grace to anyone who will accept it, and that anyone who will may come! It is only the voluntary act of our own wills that is required. (John 5:40). --ICR/HMM ["Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins."(Hebrews 9:22)= Jesus Christ paid our sin-debt on that Cross. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
--An ancient legend tells of a general whose army was afraid to fight. The soldiers were frightened. The enemy was too strong. Its fortress was too high and weapons too mighty.
--The king, however, was not afraid. He knew his men would win. How could He convince them?
He had an idea. He told his soldiers that he possessed a magical coin. A prophetic coin. A coin which would foretell the outcome of the battle. On one side was an Eagle and on the other a Bear. He would toss the coin. If it landed Eagle-side up, they would win. If it landed with the Bear up, they would lose.
The Army was silent as the coin flipped in the air. Soldiers circled as it fell to the ground. They held their breath as they looked and shouted when they saw the Eagle. The Army would win.
Bolstered by the assurance of victory, the men marched against the Castle and won.
It was only after the victory that the king showed the men the coin. The two sides were identical.
--Though the story is fictional, the truth is reliable: assured victory empowers the Army.
That may be the reason God gives us the Book of Revelation. In it He assures victory. We, the soldiers, are privileged a glimpse into the final battlefield. All Hell breaks loose as all Heaven comes forth. The two collide in the ultimate battle of good and evil. Left standing amidst the smoke and thunder is the Son of God. Jesus born in a manger--now triumphant over Satan.
-Satan is defeated. Christ is triumphant. And we, the soldiers, are assured of victory.
[ **We see Christ Jesus from Genesis all the way through the Bible, till the end, Revelations. This Article, "Water from the Rock" is self-explanatory as our Lord spoke directly with and instructed Moses in leading the Israelites through the wilderness. The very last invitation of the Bible is "And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely" (Revelation 22:17). Then, "whosoever drinketh...shall never thirst" (John 4:14). ~~ BE BLESSED!]
---WATER FROM THE ROCK ~~
---“Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.” ------(Exodus 17:6)--
This amazing provision of drinking water for the Israelites in the midst of a barren wilderness is surely one of the most remarkable miracles of creation recorded in Scripture. Furthermore, it was not a one-time event but somehow continued to provide water for them during the entire 40 years they spent in the desert. God provided daily water just as He provided their daily bread. “Our fathers . . . did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:1, 3-4).
The provision was an act of pure grace on God’s part, for even after God created the manna for them, the people were about to stone Moses (Exodus 17:4). But their complaint was really against God, so God “stood before” Moses as he smote the rock at Horeb, and a great spring of water burst forth.
This is the first mention of the word “rock” in Scripture, and it is surely significant that the apostle Paul calls this rock a type of Christ. Just as Moses smote the rock with the same rod of judgment that he had used to smite the river in Egypt (Exodus 7:20; 17:5), so Christ had to be “smitten of God” (Isaiah 53:4) because of our sins before He could fulfill His promise: “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink” (John 7:37).
But once our Rock was smitten, the water of everlasting life was made available freely to all who will drink. The very last invitation of the Bible is: “And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely” (Revelation 22:17). Then, “whosoever drinketh . . . shall never thirst” (John 4:14).

~~~~As the first immigrant to the US to pass through Ellis Island in 1892, Annie Moore must have felt incredible excitement at the thought of a new home and a fresh start. Millions would pass through there afterward. Just a teenager, Annie had left behind a difficult life in Ireland to start a new one. Carrying only a little bag in her hand, she came with lots of dreams, hopes, and expectations of a land of opportunity.
How much more excitement and awe will God’s children experience when we see “a new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21:1). We will enter what the book of Revelation calls “the Holy City, the new Jerusalem” (v. 2). The apostle John describes this amazing place with powerful imagery. There will be “the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb” (22:1). Water represents life and abundance, and its source will be the eternal God Himself. John says that “no longer will there be any curse” (v. 3). The beautiful, pure relationship God intended between Himself and humans will be fully restored.
How incredible to know that God, who loves His children and purchased us with the life of His Son, is preparing such an amazing new home—where He Himself will live with us and be our God (21:3). The Bible refers to Jesus as our "Bridegroom" and His Church (meaning all believers) as the "Bride." As a believer, you've been betrothed to Christ, and the "marriage" will be completed when He brings you and the rest of His Church together for the special event, "The Wedding Supper of the Lamb."
~~~ Opinions differ as to where in Jerusalem Christ was crucified and buried. Some believe it was at the site of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre; others think that it was on a hillside outside the city walls. The Via Dolorosa, a narrow, stone lane path within those walls, leads to both. It's thought to be the very route Jesus took to His crucifixion.
Walking the Via Dolorosa, I felt irritated by what I viewed as near-oblivion to the sanctity of this path. Crass crowds and the array of souvenir shops disturbed me. Yet, I realized, this was a glimpse into how it was in Jesus's day--the clamor of busy markets with hordes of noisy people.
The atmosphere I experienced changed at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, ornate and lavishly decorated, and Calvary, stark, and simple, each reverent in its own way. The tones of those at both locations were hushed and respectful, silently waiting to kneel by, touch, and experience the holy spaces. The awareness that our Savior had suffered, died, and risen was palpable.
Why is the Via Dolorosa bustling with indifference and commercialism, while the sites of death and resurrection are worshipful? Perhaps it's a reminder that I like so many, get too wrapped up in the world, succumb to peer pressure, realize my errors too late, and bow down after the fact--when crisis has already struck.
My visit to Calvary was, appropriately, on a day of icy rain. I stared at the empty tomb, then huddled with others under umbrellas, absorbing the magnitude of the place. With them, I took Communion, grateful for our forgiving God. I know the grave is empty. I know Jesus conquered the grave and He is Alive! ~~

~~~The Jesus-story was new in Ephesus, and the people were overwhelmed by the magnitude of their sin. They began to repent publicly, bringing their pagan scrolls and burning them. Today that would be like millions of dollars’ worth of Ouija boards, tarot cards, horoscopes, and the like going up in smoke! The result of their repentance was a widespread awareness of the power of the gospel. I would love to see what God would do in my community if every pagan item was sacrificed on an altar of repentance.
