Sorry you are continuing to feel bad. Is there any doctor who can help you with the mercury detox? It's so terrible that so many of us are left to try and figure it out ourselves when we have no medical training.

Don't take any more coffee and drink plenty of water. What water are you drinking? Is it tap or bottled? If bottled, check the ingredients to see if there is flouride in it, or what the contents are of the other minerals. Some of them have high contents of minerals. The lowest I have found for a reasonable price is Tesco Mountain Spring or Morrisons Scottish Spring (I think it was callled that, but was £1.49 for 4). Their cheapest spring water has something like 300mg bicarbonate per litre. The tesco one has higher sulphate 10mg per litre, but is generally low on other minerals. My personal view is that the lower the mineral content the better.

Are you taking vitamin c only once during the day or several times? You might want to find a supplement that can be taken 2-3 times a day so that you can take a little at morning, afternoon and evening. Also check the contents of your supplements to make sure they don't contain things like aspartame and sorbitol.

Eat a high protein diet, but make sure you get in some carbs aswell because the body needs carbs, and I've read that protein is more effective when taken with some amount of carbs.

What supplements are you still taking?

Dawn,

I would be inclined to stop everything that you are doing for awhile with the exception of a multi vitamin and magnesium. You sound extremely toxic. There is a woman on another forum who was so sick, like you, that may be able to offer some help....Here's my email address l.schaus@comcast.net. ..let me know if you would like hers and I'll email it to you.

I've recently discovered that when I am feeling particularly symptomatic and I take large doses of vitamin c , ascorbate powder, I feel worse.... learned that vitamin c raises the glutathione level in the body, which is a good thing, but I guess if you are severely toxic it may really stir the pot.

The weather in western PA was very warm the end of April and beginning of May and I started feeling much better as far as mercury symptoms. Then we started having a cold spell and I feel awful.

Sorry to hear you are feeling so badly.

Chloe

Yeah, like Demi said, taking very small doses of vitamin c throughout the day may be better than taking larger doses at this point.

I second the vitamin C statement... Take several small doses throughout the day. This is better than one big dose.

I would also second the statment about stopping all supplements, then add them back one by one to find the culprit. Make sure you wait at least 4 days (a week would be better) with each new supplement to be sure what the effects really is. Also, keep a journal.

Everything has a cause, finding it is paramount.

Keep us posted.

Thankyou everyone, i take slow release vitc 1000mg 3xa day. I drink mineral water from tesco 5ltrs per day. Im not doing anymore enemas. Also , because i suffer from insomnia i take a prescription sleeping tablet at night, maybe its that, side effects are anxiety, sweating, loss of co-ordination etc, i take it because nothing else works for me. The reason i did enemas in the first place is because i cant actually go to the toilet without taking something, i went 2 wks once while i was on holiday, in the end i had to get something from the chemist to make me go to the toilet. Russ, couldn,t these be symptoms of detoxing, its only been 5 wks since the removal of my fillings, could it be that my body is detoxing on it,s own. I had my fillings for 35 yrs and really only started getting severe symptoms a year ago, so i went on a really harsh anticandida diet and regime, i was taking antifungal supplements every 2 hrs everyday for at least 7mths, i was in denial about my fillings. Thanks Dawn.

Are you taking Ambien to help you sleep? If so I would try to discontinue that. It is very addictive and it can cause psychosis. If you are taking a benzodiazepine tranquilizer (Valium, Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, etc.) to sleep they are also highly addictive and can cause a lot of problems.

If you've taken any of those for more than a month you are probably addicted. To stop you have to taper off of the drug slowly.

Hi Dawn. From what I've read here, maybe it's not a good idea to get rid of the candida before you are detoxed? I believe it helps protect against mercury. I'm leaving mine alone for now. Xylitol is meant to get rid of candida, so I am not really taking it at the moment, except spoonful now and again in custard (which is all I took of sugar anyway). I'm also taking the occasional yeast selenium and marmite, which is yeast spread, especially now I've cut out bread.

I do have a history of thrush problems and have a coated tongue, but if this is the body's natural way of fighting mercury, I'm not doing much for a while. Maybe when the body is less toxic, the candida will reduce of its own accord? I don't know.

If you got worsening symptoms a year ago, is there anything in your life that changed about then? if you look back over the past couple of years you might see a connection with something. I see now that I got worse symtoms last year because 1. I had work done on amalgam. 2. I started taking a lot of coriander in foods. 3. I was taking glucosamine sulphate. 4. My computer monitor was getting really old, and probably giving off high volts.

Hey Aaron,

Unfortunately, insomnia is a huge symptoms of mine. As a result, I take 2-4 grams of tryptophan (an amino acid) to help me sleep each nite, along with Xanax, which I know is addictive.

However, I prefer to stay addicted so I can sleep. Then, when symptoms subside, it takes me about a week to wean myself off and break the addiction. I can usually go off once a year for a number of months before the insomnia comes back.

It is too bad that we have to make such decision, but I'll take an addiction anytime over having chronic fatigue, and then on top of that not being able to sleep.

BTW, I use the tryptophan to go to sleep, and the sleeping pill to keep me asleep through the nite.

I also deal a couple months at a time with insomnia and restless leg syndrome. I would do some light exercise and stretching that would ease it off and most time I could get to sleep. It's lightened up considerably in the last year while I've been getting my fillings replaced, but some good stretching really helps. Sometimes I even listen to some mind soothing CD's like yoga type ones or rain effects that help.

Good luck with that and know that the future is brighter!

Russ, couldn,t these be symptoms of detoxing, its only been 5 wks since the removal of my fillings, could it be that my body is detoxing on it,s own.

Absolutely.

I generally believe that once some has their fillings removed, they should do nothing to facilitate the chelation or mobilization of mercury.

Why?

Because if your fillings were removed correctly, your body will most likely begin detoxing on its own and will cause you enough problems.

Once you've stabilized and feel decent after removal, I then generally recommend starting a gentle program of mobilizing mercury, increasing in intensity little by little as your body can confortably handle it.

Of course, I would be taking substantial amounts of Vitamin C and about 400 iu Vitamin E daily for the next couple years to guard against damage mercury can cause while detoxing.

Constipation is a very common problem associated with mercury toxicity. When I was suffering with serious mercury symptoms from about 1998 to 2000 (before I discovered what the symptoms were caused by), I used Senna to keep me going, and boy does that work well.

I would also make another suggestion, cut down on the amount of water you're drinking. Yes it's excellent to drink a lot of water, but 5 liters /day is a lot and it can mobilize mercury as well. I would cut that to perhaps 1.5 to 2 liters per day and then change nothing for 2 weeks, journal your progress and review those 2 weeks when you're done and see if you've stabilized and are feeling better at that time. Then you can consider the next step.

Let us know what happens.

Here's an info sheet on senna:

Thanks everyone, Il cut down on the water russ.
Demi, my probs started yrs ago but the biggest crunch time was about a year ago, i treated myself for candida and made a big mistake because i was mercury poisoned, i think! Its so confusing, especially when you cant think straight, anyway, i think i killed too much yeast and it set mercury levels over the edge. At the beginning of the candida regime i felt better, probably because i gave up all allergenic foods such as sugar and gluten, thanks, dawn.

Senna, even when combined with fennel, ginger and other warming herbs, is not indicated for people with deficiency, according to Trad. Chinese Medicine. People with longstanding mercury toxicity would be deficient in many things (yin - yang - chi - whatever) An acupuncture doctor said it is best for mercury-poisoned people to take something like oxycleanse or oxypowder or some such laxative.

Hi Dawn. It is so confusing, especially as there are so many different opinions.

The tie in with the Candida diet sounds like it could be why you got worse, though.

I've also heard that too much water isn't good. I drink about 1-2 litres of fluids a day.

During my final days of mercury toxicity (2000), I was very constipated as well. I used senna and it was truly amazing.

I haven't had to use it since the day I had my fillings removed.

Before i had my thyroid gland removed, i didn't have problems with constipation, it was only afterwards that i experienced it,now 12yrs. I have to constantly take things or enemas everyday because my body just doesn't do it by itself.

Because Hypothyroidism is a known cause of constipation, and because of the timing of your experience, we can see a pretty strong link (of couse, not having a thyoid can be modeled as a non-functioning thyroid).

Are you on any medications as a result of the thyroid removal?

Most mercury toxic people do not do well on T4 meds only, as they cannot convert the T4 to the active T3 hormone, which is what the body needs. In his book Amalgam Illness Andy Cutler says that hypothyroidism should not be treated with T4 only meds, but a combo of T4/T3 like Armour or Thyroid S. You will feel MUCH better on it.

Have a look at these websites for more info.

http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormones/

there is even a forum about thryoid and mercury issues

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ThyroidMercury/

Please take the time to check this out. Effective thryroid replacement therapy is even more important for you as you have no thyroid. Your body is simply not getting what it needs on T4 only meds. Constipation is one of the well-known symptoms of hypothyroidism. It is possible to be hypothyroid even though your results are in range. The websites will tell you how and why.

I was on T4 only meds last year, and they did nothing for me at all apart from cause an adrenal crash at Christmas, as I couldn't convert the T4 to T3. It has taken a long time to recover, but I am now on Armour and adrenal support and feeling better. You can feel better than you do now by taking the right thyroid medication. Please look into this.

take care

Dawn - sorry to go on, but I have just read your previous posts and your symptoms scream hypothyroidism - the blurred vision, anxiety, constipation.

Fatigue, elevated cholesterol, dry and brittle hair, loss of outer 1/3 of eyebrows, IBS symptoms, muscle and joint pain, unrefreshing sleep, low body temperature, low blood pressure, irritability, social withdrawal, impending doom feelings, depression, anxiety and panic attacks are all hypothyroid symptoms.

Also, it is unlikely that 100mg of Levothyroxine is a full replacement dose for someone who does not have a thyroid. Go to the natural thyroid hormone website and ask, but I think you are probably woefully undertreated.

the doctors who prescribe Armour in the UK are Dr Barry Peatfield-Durrant and Dr Gordon Skinner. I think they both give mobile clinics around the country. Details attached but not sure how up to date the phone numbers are.

http://www.geocities.com/thyroide/docs-UK.html

More websites / forums where you might get more info about these doctors.

http://www.thyroiduk.org/
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/TPA-UK/

As it's so difficult to find a doctor who is not wedded to the TSH test, some people go it alone. This is what the Natural Thyroid Hormone website is all about - a lot of people realising they have been mistreated by doctors, and self-treating by doing their own tests, ordering their own meds and monitoring their own symptoms.. I did before I was started by my endo on Armour. But you have to do your research, be aware of adrenal and ferritin issues, and listen closely to your body. You can order Thyroid-S over the net - it is a generic version of Armour. But I wouldn't recommend doing this until you have checked your adrenal status, which is probably not good given that you have mercury toxicity and have been hypo for a long time. You need to deal with your adrenals before you switch onto Armour or Thyroid-S, or your adrenals will peg out. Do you have a constant flu-like feeling / internal shaking? These are all signs of low adrenals that won't cope with powerful thyroid hormone. Once the adrenals are supported, you slowly add the thyroid hormone at a low dose, and increase the dose every 2 weeks until you feel well.

I hope this is helpful. You are not the first person I have given UK contacts to. It seems very difficult to find an enlightened doctor there. But you are suffering more than you need. Let me know how you go.

Thanks for the response. My doctor would never prescribe it. I never feel fluey or shakey, infact i havnt actually had a cold or anything like that for years. I have been taking thyroxine for 12 yrs, i was never depressed, not until about 5mths ago when i got 3 teeth pulled out, i do have alot of the other symptoms like being cold, constipation etc. On the link you gave me there are only names of doctors, no adresses, i will go on the other websites and have a look. Do you take Armour with thyroxine? I see you can buy it online.

Here's another suggestion that might help. There are certain nutrients the body needs in order to properly convert T4 to T3, such as zinc, copper, tyrosine (an amino acid), selenium, and manganese and iodine (which are necessary for the creation of T4).

You might consider taking a nutritional supplement like Thyroid Support that contains all these ingredients.

This would be a good supplement for anyone who has even a slightly under-active thyroid, including those of us who are mercury toxic.

In fact, a friend of mine was diagnosed with a hypothyroid condition and they put her on Levothroid for 2 months. She felt worse on the medication and when she went back, the doctor said her numbers were lower and they should increase the dosage to see what would happen. She said "no thanks."

Instead, she began taking Thyroid Support capsules. She said she can't believe how much better she feels now. Thyroid Support has made a huge difference for her and she tells everyone!

Hope this helps,
