-Friends,(Please note ) Lynn has broken her arm and wrist. So please keep her in your prayers. Of course, it is difficult for her to type with the left hand only. So I am trying to simply finish up this one topic. As you know, NOT everybody agrees with the same gradual devolopment of the English Bibles. I am giving you what I have before me in my King James Thompson Chain Reference Bible. I am satisfied with all of this personally. So we will try to wind this up with the -English Versions During the dark ages very little Bible translation was attempted. There were a few minor translations made of portions of the Bible. -1320-1384. Jno. Wycliffe[/u], a great English scholar and Bible student, conceived the plan of translating the whole Bible into common English. -William Tyndale was the next in order of the great English Translators. -Miles Coverdale/ A friend of Tyndale, prepared and published a Bible dedicated to Henry the VIII in 1535. -Matthews' Bible. / 1537 -The Great Bible./ 1539. -The Geneva Bible / 1560. -The Bishop's Bible./ 1568. -The Douay Bible / 1582. -The King James or Authorized Version / 1611 The Revised Version /1881-1884. --The American Standard Version / 1900-1901 ------------- ---English Versions since 1901 --The Revised Standard Version / 1952 -The Berkley Version /1959 -The Amplified Bible /1965 -The Jerusalem Bible / 1966 --New English Bible. /1970 -New American Standard Bible /1971 -Today's English Version (Good News Bible). / 1976 -New International Version / 1978 -New King James Version /1982 The New Testament of the New King James Version was published in 1979. One hundred and nineteen Bible scholars worked on this project which was sponsored by the International Trust for Bible Studies and Thomas Nelson Publishers. The scholars sought to preserve and improve the purity of the King James Version of 1611. ~~
