"And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself."

At first glance, the story of the Emmaus Road might seem like just a few folks out for a walk, trying to make sense of an immensely disappointing experience. When they tried to describe Christ's execution to the 'stranger' they bumped into, He redirected the conversation, asking them questions and gave them the lecture of a lifetime.

Why is the Emmaus Road story endearing on so many levels? Why does a rather unevenful tale of a seven-mile walk continue to draw us in, offering rich material for sermons and lessons?

Perhaps because in it, the resurrected Jesus made only His second appearance from the dead to two people we've barely heard of. They were ordinary folks, not leaders of the church. He reminds them that God's work throughout Scripture had always signaled this moment: when the Son of Man would come to earth, offer Himself for our sake, and establish His new body, His church, in us!

Cleopas and his friend had been despairing of their future. Christ responded by returning to the truth of Scripture.

Take time to meditate on this conversation on the Road to Emmaus. It is very important. What happens next is that we, His body of believers are told to "go and tell the world that the Messiah has come and is coming back to get us." Our job is to spread His Word.

( starThank you Russ, Laura and Herb Allure for allowing the Lord's Word to go onward with this, your forum. God bless you!)
