--Chocolate Improves Heart -Health and Memory ~~By: Chris D. Meletis, ND Vitamin Research Products - -DID YOU KNOW?-Chocolate Improves Heart Health and Memory ~~All too often my patients sheepishly admit their infatuation with chocolate. I can assure you, they never get scolded by me. In fact, I give them a proverbial pat on the back, and tell them keep up the good work. Turns out chocoholics may get the last laugh since many studies are confirming the health benefits of this treat. For example, in one study, subjects who consumed the highest amount of chocolate had a 37 percent reduction in cardiovascular disease.A cool tidbit to remember: the flavonols in chocolate are thought to improve blood circulation to the brain. Even a cup of hot chocolate might do the brain good on special occasions. A 2009 study showed that drinking hot chocolate allowed participants to do calculations more quickly and accurately and while feeling less tired. With tax season approaching, consider using chocolate to help yourself fill out an accurate tax return. At the very least, it might make you feel better in the process. Of course, it's important to remember there are calories in those little dark morsels so remember to choc-o-little versus choc-o-lot. And, when possible, go dark, as dark chocolate in particular is packed with antioxidants. ~~
