Parkinson's disease is a chronic neurological condition affecting an estimated 1.5 million Americans. Although 15 percent of patients are diagnosed before age fifty, it is generally considered a disease that targets older adults. Parkinson's disease affects one of every one hundred persons over the age of sixty.

Founded in 1957, the National Parkinson Foundation aims through dedicated research to find the cause and cure of this disease and other neurological disorders. The Foundation supports researchers; physicians; occupational, physical and speech therapists; and pyschological counseling. It also provides educational and medical information for Parkinson's patients, their families, neurologists and general medical practitioners.

Continued support enables the Foundation to expand research activities, pursue additional clinical trials of new medications and thereby assist the patients to maintain a higher quality of life.
