So I have been battling mercury toxicity for about a year now. I've had it before then but didn't know it was mercury causing the problems.

I have been eating a very very healty diet and haven't gotten sick in the past year, and just got all my fillings out within the last 5 weeks (its been 8 days since the last one of ten fillings came out). Not getting sick at all says a lot since I was sick very often in my life (I'm only 20 now) and I have a very stressful job as a cook. I also don't supplement with any multi-vitamins, only whole foods and herbs.

Even though I have never gotten sick, I do have a lot of mental symptoms and a few physical symptoms of mercury toxicity, and realize that my diet is very very high sulfur (lots of egg yolks, raw cheese, garlic, etc...) and I really like high sulfur foods. I don't know what I would enjoy eating without them.

I am feeling more mentally stable since having my 10 fillings removed... but was wondering if I should try a low sulfur diet. I have tried a gluten free casein free diet for a week a few weeks ago and didn't notice any difference with that.

What do you guys/gals think?

If I were you, I'd try a low sulphur diet for a few weeks and see if you feel any different. Sulphur is good for detoxing because it mobilizes mercury, but when the sulphur bonds break—which some do—the mercury can be redistributed causing more symptoms and damage.

Either way, I would hightly recommend daily doses of algin to protect against mercury redistribution, especially when you're on a high-sulphur diet or detoxing in general.

I consider algin the single most important mercury detox supplement. Here's a link if you're interested:

Well, Russ knows a great deal more on this topic than I do. For my part, I am deeply opposed to forcing oneself - anybody - to follow a diet that goes against their desires (within reason, of course - if you are addicted to aspartame-laced Coca Cola, you better believe you have to do something about that).

But those foods you mentioned are healthful. If you were advised to stop just one or two foods, fine, you can probably do that, but having to stop an entire group of foods - have you seen the list posted here of high-sulphur foods? - that can rebound on you and your cravings will multiply badly.

That is just my own experience of the distant past with trying to get healthy by avoiding this and avoiding that. I try to eat in a simple, human way. If I were truly allergic, I'd find the underlying reasons for those allergies and work from there.

Eating is not just physical, there is all sorts of other aspects wrapped up in it: cultural, psychological, familial, and whatnot. It is my thinking that trying to stop too many things at once could cause emotional harm, eventually, as I said.

However, if you find it easy to avoid 40 different foods, take a crack at it, by all means. Or, you could try to simply reduce the quantity, and see if your symptoms improve.

Well I have been taking Algin for about 10 days now (at the recomended dose) and I do think it is helping.

I did stop taking chlorella and spirulina about 2 weeks ago and will not take those for a while because I don't want to speed this up too much.

All I can say is thank god its spring! Getting out in the sunshine and going for long walks is wonderful <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

Thank both of you for your advice. I think I will just try keeping my sulfur content of my diet not too high and make sure I take my algin and get plenty of anti-oxidants.

I know that autistic children exhibit problems with sulfur and usually are given glutathione to assist in sulpher processing. Perhaps check some reference to autistic children and sulfur.

Yeah, I eat all kinds of sulpher food, but i also take glutathione and algin and I feel pretty good most of the time except for double vision which comes and goes.

I will have to read up a little on the glutathione sulphur relationship.

I know I do take a few supplements which help my body produce more glutathione, such as turmeric.

My main problem is Mondays and Tuesdays. My symptoms just get a lot worse (though still very bearable) and I tried pinpointing whatever could be causing my symptoms to be bad then but there honestly seems to be no reason! I can eat a lot of sulphury foods or very little and take all my natural supplements consistently but I always feel really spacey and shakey on those two days. Its quite odd.
