People fret over all kinds of issues, from safety and job security to election results. For many folks--and maybe you are one--anxiety is woven so tightly into the fabric of their day that they've learned to live with it.
We treat worry like a benign emotion when in fact it can actually be harmful. Anxiety clouds our thinking, divides our focus, and robs us of concentration To complicate matters, the body can react to prolonged pressure on the psyche. Stress can manifest physically through tension headaches, elevated blood pressure, and even heart attacks.
Drifting through a mentally and physically exhausting life is not the Lord's plan for us. Our challenge is to take captive anxious thoughts (2 Cor. 10:5) and replace them with God-pleasing ones--dwelling on that which is pure, good, and right.
The best way to remove stray threads of worry is to crowd them out with something positive: weave Scripture into your mental grid instead. God has something to say about everything that concerns us. Feeling weak or under-qualified? "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:13). Afraid your paycheck won't cover this month's rent, clothes, and food? "Do not worry...for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things" (Matt. 6:31-32).
EARLY LIGHT/ Jesus said worry adds nothing to our life (Matt. 6:27). In fact, we waste time and energy dwelling on concerns instead of affirming our trust in the Lord. We must choose to set our minds upon Him before anxiety leaves us feeling frayed.

Good perspective. We talked about the things we know will happen before the Second Coming and men's hearts will fail them for fear. We WILL be affected - some more than others. Being righteous does not preclude us from suffering, but when we turn to Him for support and keep things in an eternal perspective and dwell on the positive as well as on the eventual outcome we know will come to pass....it helps us to deal with the stresses. You can't live in a cloud - but you can keep your head in them a little more perhaps and still stay "grounded." : )
"I AM ABOVE ALL THINGS: your problems, your pain, and the swirling events in this ever-changing world. When you behold My Face, you rise above circumstances and rest with Me in heavenly realms.
This is the way of Peace, living in the light of My Presence. I guarantee that you will always have problems in this life, but they must not become your focus. When you feel yourself sinking in the sea of circumstances, say "Help me, Jesus!" and I will draw you back to Me. If you have to say that thousands of times daily, don't be discouraged. I know your weakness, and I meet you in that very place."

~~~MY HOPE / Matt Redman
I SHALL BE SAFE IN YOU, JESUS!
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
A Life of Peace Isaiah 26:2-4 -- Your home offers protection from the elements. So when a storm rolls in, you seek shelter within the safety of those four walls. The same principle applies to life’s storms. If we’ve built a solid house on a foundation of faith, then we’ve got a haven to run to when dark clouds gather and anxiety threatens to overwhelm us.
Let’s suppose I’ve got a problem that has me fretting. My stomach is in knots. Friends and family try to be understanding, but they’re growing weary of me taking my heartache out on them. I’m so focused on this issue that it feels as if I’m carrying a load on my shoulders. God offers a liberating alternative: “Cast your burden upon [Me] and [I] will sustain you” (Ps. 55:22). He does not erase the ills that invade this life. Instead, He shields us from the weight of worry by taking situations into His own hands.
However, the call to a free and peaceful life goes unheeded unless a person has confidence in the Lord. Trust is built through relationship—praying during daily trials and triumphs, seeking biblical guidance for decisions, and testing God’s Word to see that it is true and practical for this life. That’s how a house of faith is constructed brick by brick on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.
A believer who trusts in God receives the peace that Philippians 4:7 promises. But unshakeable peace isn’t instantaneous; it is cultivated through a consistent relationship with the Lord.
A lifestyle of dependence upon Him is the key to weathering storms with supernatural calm.
-MONEY WORRIES Luke 12:22-31 --- Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. --Luke 12:32 -- -- Of His words recorded in the Bible, Jesus has more to say on money than any other topic. Luke 12 offers a good summary of His attitude. He does not condemn possessions, but He warns against putting faith in money to secure the future. Money fails to solve life's biggest problems.
In speaking about money, Jesus seems to concentrate on the question: What is money doing to you? Money can dominate a person's life, diverting attention away from God. Jesus challenges us to break free of money's power--even if it means giving it all away.
Jesus urges His listeners to seek treasure in the kingdom of God, for such treasure can benefit them in this life and the next one too. "Do not worry," He says (v.22), for God is the one who provides for our needs. And then to emphasize His point, He brings up King Solomon, the richest man in the Old Testament. Jesus said that a common wildflower is clothed more gloriously by God than a royal king. So do not have an anxious mind (vv.27-29), "but seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you" (v.31).
Better to trust in the God who lavishes care on the whole earth than to spend our lives worrying about money and possessions. ----- - The real measure of our wealth is what will be ours in eternity.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand. -- Psalm 37:23-24
As I look around the world today, it's clear that one thing God has programmed into the mind of each person is a desire for safety.
People have an innate desire for stability and sureness in their lives. Yet because of the fall, the world in which we live will never offer us the kind of stability that we seek.
So where can we find the safety and security that we truly want?
In Christ alone.
Now, it's wonderful knowing that our sins are forgiven and that we're on our way to heaven. But do you know something even more wonderful than knowing that you're saved? Knowing that your salvation can never be lost!
There's an old hymn that's so true when it comes to eternal security,
More secure is no one ever Than the loved ones of the Savior Not yon star on high abiding, Nor the bird in home-nest hiding.
It's a fact that if you are in Christ, there's nothing that can take you away from him. Though you may fall, you will never be cast off because the Lord upholds you in his hand.
So when doubts creep in, trust that your salvation is not dependent on you, and that in Christ, you are more secure than anywhere else.
WHEN DOUBTS ARISE, REST SECURELY IN CHRIST BECAUSE GOD WILL NEVER LET HIS CHILDREN GO. --
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
A Divine Guarantee Matthew 6:31-34 -- Today’s passage contains one of the most amazing promises in all of Scripture. If we truly believed it and lived accordingly, our lives would be transformed, and worry would lose its grip on us. Yet if we keep seeking our security in the things the world values—bank accounts, stable jobs, and a strong national and global economy—we will be filled with anxiety at every fluctuation.
Instead, why not take God up on His guarantee in Matthew 6:33?"Seek first His kingdom and His righteusness, and all these tings will be added to you." Make Him your number one priority, seeking both His kingdom (His rule over you) and His righteousness (His transformation of you). What that means is obeying His instructions and submitting to whatever He uses to transform your character, whether it be hardship, suffering, or ease. What I’m talking about is not a sinless life but, rather, the desire to live in God’s will and become increasingly like Christ.
When we make a commitment toward that goal, the Lord promises to take full responsibility for providing whatever we need. Now, this doesn’t mean that He will give us everything we ask for, but aren’t you grateful that He doesn’t? Just think back to some of the foolish things you’ve requested in the past. He alone knows what our true needs are.
The spiritual benefits of living in God’s will are amazing, but our loving Father doesn’t stop there—He commits to provide for our physical needs as well. So even though each day has its own trouble (v. 34), you can rest in the faithfulness of the Father and trust Him to keep His Word.
Matthew 5:38-48 --- You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I say to you, love your enemies. --Matthew 5:43-44 --
IF you were to ask me who I am, I'd tell you that I'm a follower of Jesus. But I have to admit, at times following Him is a real challenge. He tells me to do things like rejoice when I'm persecuted (Matt. 5:11-12); to turn the other cheek (vv.38-39); to give to someone who wants to take from me (vv.40-42); to love my enemies, bless those who curse me, and do good to those who hate me (vv.43-44). This kind of lifestyle seems very upside down to me.
But I've come to realize that He's not upside down--I am. We have all been born fallen and broken. Being twisted by sin, our first instincts are often wrong, which inevitably leaves a big mess.
We're like toast slathered with jelly that has fallen upside down on the kitchen floor. Left to ourselves, we can make a pretty big mess of things. Then Jesus comes along, like a divine spatula, scrapes us off the floor of our sinful ways, and turns us right side up. And as we follow His right-side-up ways, we discover that turning the other cheek keeps us from getting caught in a brawl, that it is more blessed to give than to receive, and that dying to self is life at its best.
After all, His ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8), but His ways are always best! ------ What may seem upside down to us is right side up to God.
--The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. (Psalms 34:18)
"Love your neighbor as yourself.' If you keep on biting and devouring each ohter, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other." (Galatians 5:14-15)-
It doesn't take the human heart long to figure out the impact our words can have. Learning from our mistakes, however, can take a lifetime. The potential to destroy with our words is just as real as the potential to build up. Yet how often we choose to use our words carelessly.
Paul Tripp, biblical counselor and author of "War of Words," encourages speaking redemptively, or "refusing to let our talk be driven by passion and personal desire, communicating instead with God's purposes in view. It is exercising the faith needed to be part of what God is doing at the moment."
Biting and devouring each other with words destroys; quarreling and surrendering to the desires that battle within kills. "Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil. And he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you" (James 4:7-8).
God has come near through Jesus Christ whose gentle words beckon us to bow our hearts to Him and speak graciously to others because His grace has been lavished on us. ~ --- "May the words, O LORD, that I choose to say, bring glory, not shame to your Name each day!"
The Secret of Joy and Contentment By: Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION- -- "And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams." 1 Samuel 15:22
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT-
Joy and obedience are intrinsically linked together. When you learn to obey the Lord, you will have the joy of the Lord. It's like the hymn written by John Sammis: "Trust and obey, for there's no other way, To be happy with Jesus, but to trust and obey."
Trust and obedience are the two hands that lay hold of the promises of God. They are the two feet that keep you walking on the King's highway. They are the two ears that enable you to hear the Truth of God's Word.
ACTION POINT-
Do you want to know the sweet joy and contentment that Paul had in the depths of a Roman prison and that Corrie Ten Boom had in the dark confines of a Nazi prison camp? Then trust and obey.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
Philippians 4:2-7 ---- Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit. --Philippians 2:3 -- --- I watched from my balcony as a 20-story apartment building was demolished. The demolition took barely a week to complete. In its place a new building is being constructed. It's been months now, and despite construction activities going on nights and weekends, it is still incomplete. How much easier it is to tear down than to build up!
What is true for demolition and contruction of buildings is also also true for personal relationships. In Philippians 4:2, Paul wrote to two women in the church, saying, "I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord." The quarrel between these two women threatened to tear down the witness of the Philippian church if left unresolved. So Paul urged a "true companion" (v.3) to help rebuild that relationship.
Sadly, Christians do quarrel, but we should seek to "live peaceably" with all (Rom. 12:18). Unless our conflicts are resolved, the Christian witness so painstakingly built up can be destroyed. It takes much effort to reconcile broken relationships, but it is worth it. Like a new building rising from the ruins, reconciled believers can emerge stronger.
May we seek to build each other up through our words and actions today! ----- ODB/CPH
Romans 8:31-39 --- Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. --Matthew 11:28 - --- The aposlte Paul tells us that God has a heart of love for us (Rom. 8:31-39). Nothing--tribulation, distress, persecution, familne, nakedness, peril, sword, death, life, persecution, family, nakedness, peril, sword, death, life, angels, principalities, powers, height, nor depth--is able to separate us from the enduring love of our Lord Jesus.
"If God is for us, who can be against us?" (v.31).
Whatever our stresses or concerns, sicknessess, sorrow, or pain, the heart of God is the place to "rest into." Leave it all with Him, "for He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7). ---- When you're weary in life's struggles, find your rest in the Lord Jesus.
--SIMPLIFY Matthew 6:25-34 ---- Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. --Matthew 6:34 - -- In an interview, a basketball superstar was asked about his knack in crucial situations. The reporter asked how he was able to be so calm in such pressure-packed moments. His answer was that he tried to simplify the situation. "You only have to make one shot," the player replied. One shot. That is the essence of simplifying a difficult situation. Focus only on what is in front of you right now. Don't worry about the expectations of your coach or teammates. Simplify.
Recognizing that the challenges of life can be both overwhelming and suffocating, Jesus urged us to take matters in hand by simplifying. He said, "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble" (Matt. 6:34). This was His wise conclusion to His teaching on the debilitating power of worry. Worry doesn't accomplish anything positive; it just adds to the sense that we are drowning in the troubles we are facing. We must take things as they come--one day at a time--and trust Him for the wisdom to respond properly.
If you feel overwhelmed by life, do what you can today and then entrust the rest to Him. As Jesus said, "Each day has enough trouble of its own" (NIV). -- We lose the joy of living in the present when we worry about the future.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
"He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." 1 John 4:8 -
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Wisdom is not gained by seeing the works of God. It is gained in knowing the ways of God. When the Israelites were wandering in the desert, they could only see the works of God. But God allowed Moses to see His ways.
The Israelites were infatuated with God at first. But when troubles came, their love affair with God quickly died out. They began to murmur and complain. Moses saw the wilderness from God's perspective, however, and approached God in humility and honor. As a result, God taught him to lead His people out of darkness into light.
ACTION POINT: Do you know the ways of God? Have you learned to see life from His point of view? Or are you still trusting in your view of life to get you through the hard times? Bow before God and ask Him to ignite a vision for His glory, a bold desire to lead the lost to Him, and an unconditional passion to love Him.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
"And there was war in heaven...the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven." --(Revelation 12:7-8)-
It's hard enough to imagine heaven, let alone war in heaven. Obedient angels under Michael were locked in combat with Satan and his warriors. Shouts of war ricocheted throughout heaven, sometimes in defeat, sometimes in victory, until a victor came.
John saw a decisive change in heaven; a new force appeared enabling Michael to rally and overcome Satan whem he then cast out of heaven. No longer could Satan enter the presence of God, as in the time of Job, and accuse believers. Standing before God is our Jesus who intercedes for us, not Satan who wants to destroy us. Satan "lost his place" in heaven.
John then heard the song, "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down" (Revelation 13:10).
War in heaven is over and the victor declared with trumpet call: King Jesus! The wounded adversary was crused by Jesus' heel. --- Our hearts are like heaven's battlefield, the war raging between who I am and who I know Christ wants me to be. Flee to God for understanding.
"They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb..." (Revelation 12:11)-
WE do well to ponder the wonder of the blood of Jesus, shed on Calvary. His poured-out blood represents the totality of Jesus' atoning work. How powerful is it? First, "Through the blood of the eternal covenant, [Jesus] was brought back from the dead" (Hebrews 13:20). He broke the bonds of death by His blood. He stood alive on earth by the resurrection power of His own blood.
Second, we read that He appeared in heaven where He presented His blood. "He (Jesus) did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption" (Hebrews 9:12). When God almighty saw the blood of Jesus, the victory was won! Jesus died as God's Lamb without spot or blemish even though He was tempted to the extreme by Satan. Jesus overcame Satan by the power of His own blood.
Knowing that there is only one way to overcome Satan--that is by appealing to the powerful blood of Jesus--is enough for me. "Nothing but the blood of Jesus"! -- We need not stand powerless before the tempter. Remain under the covering of the blood of Jesus; by His power, we are "overcomers."
"They overcame him by the...word of their testimony." (Revelation 12:11)
John "was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus" (Revelation 1:9). "The testimony of Jesus" could mean that Jesus testified openly about His relationship to the Father. It also may refer to how John and his brothers and sisters in the Lord testified openly that they believed Jesus Christ--not Caesar--was Lord. They testified about their desire to see others set free from sin so that they could enjoy peace with God.
A testimony like that seems quite natural, but it is one of the hardest things to articulate. I would rather preach a dozen sermons, well-crafted and finely-illustated, than share a daily testimony about my walk with Jesus Christ. Why? Because it is such a powerful weapon against evil that Satan tempts us not to use it.
John lists "testimony" as one of the weapons that believers use in spiritual warfare. "They overcame by the word of their testimony." An up-to-date testimony covered with the cleansing blood of Jesus spells doom for Satan. -- Whether a Christian's life is consistent or not with what he claims to believe, the Lord will use whatever He sees fit for His purposes. --Haven Today ~
"They overcame him (Satan), by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death." (Revelation 12:11)-
In 1969 we lived in Nairobi, Kenya where ethnic rivalry reached a fever pitch with approaching elections. To assure victory, Kenya's largest tribe revived an ancient loyalty oath that swore obedience to the tribal ancestors. For born-again Christians, this was a problem. They could not "drink the blood oath" because they had already "drunk" the blood of Jesus. As they said, "The two bloods do not mix." Their determination to follow Jesus--even if it meant death--marked the revived Christians.
The events at that time eventually led to a funeral I attended for one Christian man martyred for Christ. Thousands gathered to mourn his death and celebrate his life. It was truly a holy moment when the martyr's widow--also beaten, but still alive--stood with raised bandaged arms to say, "My departed husband and I freely forgive in the name of Jesus Christ those who did us harm." -
Do I value my Lord more than my own life, even so much as to not shrink from death? Do I freely forgive as He forgives me? Let us consider those sobering questions today.
Discouragement can rob peace, joy, and contentment. But I have great news if you feel disheartened: You're not stuck!
I've known people who appeared to be in an impossible situation. A few years later, however, they were in a terrific place, either in terms of their circumstances or their emotions. The reason? They never gave up. Instead of sulking in self-pity, they chose to believe God, step out in faith, and climb out of the emotional pit.
Nehemiah is a good example. He had every reason to feel defeated, because his people were in trouble. After receiving news that the city wall had been destroyed, this man of God acknowledged profound disappointment and grieved. Though pain flooded his soul, he didn't allow himself to stay in that low place. Instead, Nehemiah cried out to God, seeking direction.
Sadness in the presence of royalty was punishable by death. But the Lord answered Nehemiah's prayer with amazing power, prompting the king to notice his servant's sad countenance and then to ask what he could do to help. This miracle led to the rebuilding of the wall and the redemption of God's people.
The Lord can take an impossible situation—no matter what it is—and move in ways mightier than you can imagine.
Do you live in eager expectation of what the Lord will do? Or have you chosen to linger in the depths of despair? Like Nehemiah, turn your disappointment into a petition for God's help. He can restore your hope and prevent negative emotions from gaining a stranglehold on your life.
Luke 12:22-34 -- Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life. --Luke 12:22 -- IN the episodes of an old television show, the veteran police lieutenant always said this to the young officers on their way out to the street for their day's assignments: "Be careful out there!" It was both good advice and a word of compassion because he knew what could happen to them in the line of duty.
Jesus gave His followers a similar warning, but in even stronger terms. Luke 11 ends ominously with these words: "The scribes and the Pharisees began to assail Him vehemently, and to cross-examine Him about many things" (v.53). In the continuation of this account, Luke says that Jesus compassionately instructed His disciples to "beware" (12:1) but not to worry or be afraid (vv.4-7,22).
Jesus was promising to guard, protect, and care for them as they went out into the world. He assured them that because He cared for simple things like birds and lilies, they could be certain that He would take care of His "little flock" of believers (vv.24-32).
We cannot know the future. But we can know this: No matter what comes, we are under the loving, caring, watchful eye of our great Shepherd, who also happens to be the Son of God! ---- If Jesus is concerned about flowers and birds, He certainly cares about you and me. AMEN!
I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE DANGER OF UNBELIEF~~
God has imbedded in me a dread of unbelief. I thank God for revealing in Scripture the harm and ruin caused by it. We Christians have taken this matter too lightly, supposing our heavenly Father overlooks the doubts of those in great trials and afflictions.
I once thought the Lord ought to give slack to believers in seemingly hopeless situations. As I pondered the disciples in their sinking ship, I thought, "Lord, they were overwhelmed. It looked hopeless. Their response was only human." Yet Jesus reprimanded them for having "little faith."
There is a time to weep--when Jesus says to us lovingly, "Go ahead, cry. I bottle every precious tear." We are told over and over in Scripture that we serve a loving Father who is touched by our feelings. Therefore, we dare not linger in our fears and doubts. Instead, we must rise up and "trust in the shadow of his wings."
It may sound harsh, but God has no pity for unbelief. He grants no other option but faith. Israel missed God's blessing because of their unbelief, which God called evil. Scripture says they could not enter into a life of rest and peace: "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief" (Hebrews 3:12).
Beloved, whatever you are going through, even walking through the valley of the shadow of death, God promises to be with you. I urge you: Take a stand in the midst of your trial and trust Him. Your unbelief changes nothing--but faith opens the door to deliverance. "Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee, which thou has wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!" (Psalm 31:19).
Joseph was in one of his darkest hours—lonely, downcast, about to give up his dreams, questioning his place in God. Suddenly, the call came from one of the king's guards: "Joseph! Get cleaned up—Pharaoh is calling for you!"
In that moment, I believe the Spirit of God came mightily upon Joseph and his heart leapt with excitement. He was about to understand what it was all about!
As Joseph shaved and trimmed his hair, he probably thought, "This is the beginning of what God promised me. Now I know I heard from him! The devil has not been in control and my life hasn't been wasted. God has been directing everything the entire time!"
In a matter of minutes, Joseph was standing before Pharaoh, listening to his dream. Joseph gave the interpretation of the coming famine and told Pharaoh he had to gather and store the nation's grain: "Someone must be in charge of the storehouses. You have to find a man who's full of wisdom to oversee it all" (see Genesis 4l).
Pharaoh looked around and then turned toward Joseph: "You! Joseph! I appoint you second ruler. Only I will have more power in the kingdom than you. You will oversee it all!"
How quickly things had changed! The day came when Joseph stood before his brothers and was able to say: "But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive" (Genesis 50:20).
"God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt" (45:7-8). ----- Dear saint, very soon you're going to understand your present fiery trials. God is going to bring you into the promise he gave you and suddenly it's all going to make sense. You'll see that he has never forsaken you. He had to take you this way, for he has been training you, preparing you, teaching you to trust him for everything. He has planned a time for you to be used—and that time is just ahead! ------- THE LORD IS ALWAYS IN CONTROL!
Job 1:13-22 --- There was a man... whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. --Job 1:1 --- It seems that young people in China are beginning to forget how to write the characters that comprise the beautiful calligraphy of their traditional language. Some all calling the phenomenon "character amnesia." Heavy usage of computers and smart phones often means that writing is neglected and some can no longer remember the characters they learned in childhood. One young man said, "People don't write anything by hand anymore except for [their] name and address."
Some people appear to have "character amnesia" of a different sort. When faced with a dilemma, they seem to "forget" the right thing to do and instead choose the easy way out.
God called Job "a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil" (Job 1:8). God allowed Satan to take everything Job had--his children, his wealth, and his health. But despite his heart-wrenching circumstances, Job refused to curse God. "In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong" (v.22). Satan had challenged God's assertion of Job's blameless character, but he was proven wrong.
Character amnesia? No. Character is who we are; it's not something we "forget." Those who have a loss of character make a choice. --- When wealth is gone, little is lost; when health is gone, something is lost; but when character is gone, all is lost!
2 Kings 19:10-19 --- Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see. --2 Kings 19:16 - -- Twenty-month-old James was leading his family confidently through the hallways of their large church. His daddy kept an eye on him the whole time as he toddled his way through the crowd of "giants." Suddenly the little boy panicked because he could not see his dad.
He stopped and started to cry, "Daddy, Daddy!" His dad quickly caught up with him and little James reached up his hand, which Daddy strongly clasped. Immediately James was at peace.
Second Kings tells the story of King Hezekiah who reached up to God for help (19:15). Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, had made threats against Hezekiah and the people of Judah, saying, "Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you...You have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by utterly destroying them; and shall you be delivered?" (vv.10-11).
King Hezekiah went to the Lord and prayed for deliverance so "that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD God" (vv.14-19). In answer to his prayer, the angel of the LORD struck down the enemy, and Sennacherib withdrew (vv.20-36).
-When Foundations Are Shaken READ: HEBREWS 12:25-29
One decade ago, the United States of America experienced a massive attack by terrorists. Our people were shaken by the realization that the country is not as safe as we once thought.
Of course, it grieved me to learn of the events that occurred and the lives that were tragically lost. But at the same time, the horrible situation led to some positive outcomes. For example, our nation unified and people served with courage and selflessness.
One of the biggest benefits, I believe, was that many of us realized our great dependence upon God. Safety in this world is an illusion. Sadly, the peace and blessing we have experienced in America has led to much complacency and self-dependence. Sometimes we need to be shaken out of our forgetfulness and into reliance upon Jesus Christ.
Just listening to the news these days can rattle our sense of well-being. There is always something unsettling taking place. But as believers, we should look at life from a biblical perspective.
We are children of the living God, not people who seek security only in the natural, secular world. Our hope and refuge is firm: through Jesus Christ, our relationship with the Lord is eternal. Everything else we possess could be destroyed in a moment.
Worldly circumstances—natural disasters, wars, and assorted turmoil—may have an effect on everyone, but they can't control the believer's heart. Let your hope rest in Christ alone. Only by finding security in the arms of Almighty God can you remain unshaken in times of uncertainty.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: A boy was reading a murder mystery one day, and he became anxious about whether the heroine was going to live. To alleviate his anxiety, he read the last chapter and discovered that she survived!
Afterwards, when he read that the villain was planning a dastardly deed, he chuckled to himself and thought, "If you knew what I know, you wouldn't be so haughty."
-ACTION POINT: Christians know the last chapter, and that helps us cope with the present. Indeed, the glories of the future can help dilute the sorrows of the present. The devil's doom is pronounced in Genesis-and it's executed in Revelation.
"WHEN MANY THINGS SEEM to be going wrong, trust Me. When your life feels increasingly out of control, thank Me. These are supernatural responses, and they can lift you above your circumstances. If you do what comes naturally in the face of difficulties, you may fall prey to negativism. Even a few complaints can set you on a path that is a downward spiral, by darkening your perspective and mind-set. With this attitude controlling you, complaints flow more and more readily from your mouth. Each one moves you steadily down the slippery spiral. The lower you go, the faster you slide; but it is still possible to apply brakes.
Cry out to Me in My Name! Affirm your trust in Me, regardless of how you feel. Thank Me for everything, though this seems unnatural--even irrational. Gradually you will begin to ascend, recovering your lost ground.
When you are back on ground level, you can face your circumstances from a humble perspective. If you choose supernatural responses this time--trusting and thanking Me--you will experience My unfathomable Peace. ~
Lamentations 3:25-33 --- Though He causes grief, yet He will show compassion. --Lamentations 3:32
The city of Jerusalem was engulfed in flames, and the prophet Jeremiah wept. His prediction of divine judgment had largely gone unheeded. Now his terrible prophecy had come to pass with horrifying vividness. The short book of Lamentations records the prophet's grieving process over the destruction of Jerusalem.
Jeremiah organized the book around the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, using a technique of alphebetic acrostics to aid the reader in memorizing the passages more easily. But using this technique also shows that he didn't cut short his grieving process. He took deliberate and intentional time to reflect upon and even to write down his heartbreak. You might say he was learning to grieve from A to Z.
In the midst of his giref, the comfort of God surfaced. Reminders of God's goodness gave the prophet hope as he faced the future: "The Lord will not cast off forever. Though He causes grief, yet He will show compassion according to the multitude of His mercies" (Lam. 3:31-32).
If you've recently experienced a painful loss, remember to take adequate time to grieve and to reflect upon God's goodness. Then you will be able to experience His comfort and hope for the future. -------- God allows sorrows and tears today to open our hearts to the joys of tomorrow.
Exodus 15:22-27 --- So [Moses] cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree.--Exodus 15:25 ---- Robyn and Steve have a counseling ministry that provides very little income. Recently, a family crisis forced them to embark on a 5,000-mile round trip in their well-used minivan. After attending to the crisis, they started back to Michigan. While about 2,000 miles from home, their van began to sputter and stall. A mechanic looked at it and told them, "It's done. You need a new engine."
Unable to afford one, they had no choice but to coax the van home. Three days, a case of oil, and a lot of prayers later, they miraculously limped into their driveway. Then they heard of a "car missionary" who assisted people in ministry and he offered to replace the engine free of charge. If Steve had gotten the van fixed enroute, it would have cost him thousands of dollars he didn't have.
In Exodus 15, the Israelites were led by God into the desert. Three days into their trip, they ran out of water and had no way to get it. But God knew about the problem. In fact, a solution awaited them in Marah (v.25) and Elim (v.27). God not only fixed their water problem but also provided a place to rest.
I turned to the page in the hymnal and read the words of the song "The Lord My Shepherd Guards Me Well," a beautiful paraphrase of Psalm 23:
The Lord my Shepherd guards me well, And all my wants are fed: Amid green pastures made to lie, Beside still waters led. My care-worn soul grows strong and whole When God's true path I tread.
No matter how often we read or hear the familiar 23rd Psalm, it seems to come with a fresh message of God's care for us.
Though I should walk in darkest ways Through valleys like the grave, No evil shall I ever fear; Your presence makes me brave. On my behalf Your rod and staff Assure me You will save. ~~
This image was familiar to those who heard Jesus say, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep" (John 10:11). Unlike a hired person who runs away from danger, the true shepherd stays with the sheep to protect them. "But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd...sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep...I am the good Shepherd; and I know My sheep" (vv.12-14).
-Can Your Conscience Be Your Guide? -Romans 2:14-16
"...their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, on the day when, according to my Gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus."
Every human being is born with a marvelous gift from God-—a conscience. Since its warnings cause discomfort, you perhaps have never thought of this "alarm system" as a blessing. But our benefit and protection were what the Lord had in mind for this internal witness to our moral conduct. By listening to its promptings, we are guarded from making sinful choices that could ruin our lives.
But can you rely on your conscience to be your guide for all decisions? Before we can answer that question, we must understand what God designed it to do. The conscience was not given primarily as a positive force to guide but as an alarm system to warn and protect us from sin.
However, many of our choices are not moral issues, so we need an even more reliable source for direction.
That's why the Lord has provided believers with the Holy Spirit, who accurately leads us in any kind of decision we must make. He not only works through the conscience to make us aware of sin, but He also helps us choose between good and best. As we listen to His voice and heed His warnings, He purifies and sharpens our conscience so that it aligns more precisely with the Word and will of God.
One problem is that the conscience has the capacity to be shaped by our responses—we can damage its dependability by rejecting or ignoring its promptings. Then sins that should bother us won't register. But heeding its warnings make it sharper and more sensitive, protecting us even more effectively.
Ecclesiastes 2:1-11 --- A man has nothing better under the sun than to eat, drink and be merry; for this will remain with him in his labor... --Eccesiastes 8:15 - --- A popular slogan says, "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." I see the phrase everywhere, on everything from T-shirts to pieces of art. It's a catchy phrase, but I think it's misleading.
If we measure life by breathtaking moments, we miss the wonder of ordinary moments. Eating, sleeping, and breathing seem "ordinary" in that we do them every day, usually without much thought. But they are not ordinary at all. Every bite and every breath are miracles. In fact, having breath is more miraculous than anything that takes our breath away.
King Solomon may have had more breathtaking moments than anyone. He said, "I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure" (Eccl. 2:10). But he expressed cynicism when he said, "All of it is meaningless" (v.17) NIV.
Solomon's life reminds us that it's important to find joy in "ordinary" things, for they are indeed wonderful. Bigger is not always better. More is not always an improvement. Busier doesn't make us more important.
Rather than look for meaning in breathtaking moments, we should find meaning in every breath we take, and make every breath meaningful.
"But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed." --(Acts 27:22)
The Apostle Paul is being shipped to Rome to be tried as a Roman citizen for his radical ministry and message concerning Jesus Christ. On the way, a great tempest named "Euroclydon" dashes the ship against the rocks and threatens the lives of all on board.
As the stress level rises and everyone fears for his life, an angel gives Paul the good news: "There will be no loss of life," and the not-so-good news: "The ship will be lost."
If you read this story carefully, you will discover that God's gracious promise to save the crew is not worked out in a vacuum. Neither the Apostle Paul nor the sailors simply stop their rescue efforts and say, "Well, the Lord has this one under control. Let's just watch and see how He carries us to safety."
Not at all! The sailors make the ship lighter by throwing cargo overboard and ultimately are saved by "staying in the boat" (v.31). Fatalism says, "It doesn't matter what I do." God's sovereignty says, "God's plans are often worked out through the hands of man!" -- God ordains the end as well as the means to that end. Our part is to "Trust Him."
"In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple." -(Isaiah 6:1)
Are you worried about the future...about our nation...about our leaders? You're not alone. According to today's Scripture, Isaiah and the rest of the Israelites were deeply troubled because their earthly king was dead. They were grieved...and they were concerned about the future.
But God gave Isaiah 'spiritual insight', His holiness and glory. This prophet of the Lord describes how he saw Him "sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up." Isaiah saw the Lord sitting on the throne of the entire universe!
When Isaiah entered into the presence of the Lord, he realized that there was a greater One than any earthly king sitting upon the throne of the universe. His name is holy God, the Lord of Hosts!
Like the Israelites, it's easy to worry about the future...and wonder what's gone wrong and what will happen next in our world.
But as believers in the Lord Jesus, we don't have to wonder! We don't have to wring our hands worrying because we know that our God is Lord over all the world.
Remember that there is no panic in heaven...only plans. God never walks up and down the streets of heaven wondering about what He's going to do next.
So no matter what's going on in your world..no matter how-out-of-control things may seem...remember that God is still on His throne! Today, it's my prayer that you will get your mind off the earthly and temporary and fix your eye of faith on your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who is gloriously reigning and ruling upon the throne over this entire universe! -TODAY, THANK GOD THAT HE IS STILL ON HIS THRONE! <http://youtu.be/fCy_K2Pzd1I>
-PRESSED BEYOND MEASURE -By: David Wilkerson [May 19, 1931 - April 27, 2011]
Perhaps like Paul, you are being pressed beyond measure, tested beyond your endurance. Your strength is nearly gone, and you are on the brink of giving up. You want to run, but there is no place to go. Now you say with Paul, "This is above my strength!" So, what is the way to victory? All I can tell you is how God continues to bring me out. Here are two important truths He has given me:
1.) Don't think you are experiencing some strange, unique battle. On the contrary, you are in good company. Recall Job, Jeremiah, Elijah, David, Paul — even me. What you are going through is common to believers throughout the centuries.
"Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy" (1 Peter 4:12-13).
2.) When you think you can't go on another hour — when everything looks absolutely hopeless — cry out to God with all that is in you, "Lord, help!" Consider the counsel of the psalmist in the following verses:
"As for me, I will call upon God; and the Lord shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice. He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me" (Psalm 55:16-18).
"I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, and myfortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. . . . In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears" (18:1-2, 6).
"O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit" (30:2-3).
Here is a key verse:"For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper" (72:12).
Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to be your helper and He will not turn a deaf ear to your cry for help! -----
"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." (Matthew 6:34)
I heard about a man who worried all the time. But finally, there came a time in his life he just put aside all of his worrying. And people began to notice how much calmer and more peaceful this man was. One day he was sitting in a barber chair and his barber noticed the change in his behavior. So he asked him, "What happened to you? Why don't you worry about things like you used to?"
And the man said, "Well, I've hired a professional worrier."
"A professional worrier?" the barber replied.
"That's right!" He said, "He worries about my bills, worries about my business, and worries about my family. He just worries about everything that worries me so I don't have to. And he only charges a thousand dollars a day."
So the barber shot back,"You can't afford that!"
And the man said, "Let him worry about it."
Wouldn't that be great if we could just hire a professional worrier to take away all of our cares? Well, the Bible says that because you and I are in Christ, we can be free from anxiety. We just have to give it over to God.
So when it comes to the worries in your life, hand them over to God, trust fully that He'll give you exactly what you need! --- -Hand your worries and cares over to God because He'll always give you what you need!
Daniel 3:10-25 --- Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace. --Daniel 3:17 --- Wrapped in blankets in my grandparents' pickup, I watched as fire consumed our home. My father says I slept soundly as he carried my brother and me and our puppies out to safety. When I woke up and saw the huge blaze, I was already safe. I was too curious and too young to be scared.
I remember several things from that night. Even inside the truck, the heat was instense and the fire was mesmerizing. I remember too the fear on the faces of everyone else, checking and re-checking to see if loved ones were safe. Later I learned that in the chaos my father raced into the fire to look for my grandfather, which prompted my grandfather (who was not inside the house)to race in to get my father. Their courage affected all who saw it that night.
I'm reminded of that fire every time I read the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. When challenged with the decree to bow to the king or face execution (Dan. 3:10-12), these three bravely faced the fire for the One they loved (vv.16-18). And the Lord stood with them in the flames (v.25).
When life's "flames" test us, may those who observe our choices recognize our love for each other and for our God. ---- -Trials are the soil in which faith grows.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
I looked for a Bible translation that reads, “Jesus washed all the disciples’ feet except the feet of Judas.” I couldn’t find one.
A couple once told me about a storm they were weathering. She learned of an act of infidelity that had occurred a decade ago. And as you can imagine, she was deeply hurt. She could have left. Women have done so for lesser reasons. But on advice of a counselor, they went away for several days. On the fourth night of the trip, he found a card on his pillow. It said: “I’d rather do nothing with you than something without you.” Beneath that she’d written these words: I forgive you. I love you. Let’s move on.
Certain conflicts can be resolved only with a basin of water. Jesus made sure His disciples had no reason to doubt His love. Why don’t you do the same?
"So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." ----2 Corinthians 4:16-18
The Swiss theologian Emil Brunner once said, “What oxygen is to the lungs, such is hope for the meaning of human life.” Just as we can’t live without oxygen for our physical bodies, we likewise can’t live without hope, lest we suffocate mentally and spiritually. Another well-known writer put it this way: “The fate of humanity is dependent upon the supply of hope.”
Now the sad news is that the person without Jesus Christ faces a future which is nothing but a hopeless end. No wonder so many people are desperate and without hope. They don’t have Christ!
But the one who knows Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior faces a future which isn’t a hopeless end; it’s an endless hope! And we know that we’ll spend forever in eternity enjoying perfect, restored fellowship with Jesus!
God provided this wonderful hope from the very beginning. When Adam and Eve sinned against God and plunged the planet into pain, God came looking for them in the Garden and gave them the promise of a Redeemer. In the darkest of situations, God gives hope. I checked my door, opening and pulling it shut again. I tugged on my seatbelt to test it. But the sensor light still beamed. Then, in slow realization, I reached over and lifted my purse a few inches above the passenger seat. The light clicked off.
Apparently, a cell phone, three rolls of quarters, a hardcover book, and my lunch stuffed in my very large purse had equaled the weight of a small passenger, thus setting off the sensor!
While I can easily empty out a handbag, other weights are not so easy to shed. Those burdens of life involve a heaviness of spirit. Whether the burden that weighs us down is one of guilt such as the one that consumed David's thoughts (Ps. 32:1-6), the fear Peter experienced (Matt. 26:20-35), or the doubt Thomas carried (John 20:24-29), Jesus has invited us to bring them all to Him: "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28).
We are not built to bear burdens alone. When we cast them on the Lord (Ps. 68:19; 1 Peter 5:7), He replaces them with forgiveness, healing, and restoration. No burden is too heavy for Him.
Lord, thank You for lovingly carrying our burdens. In times of trouble, help us to leave those burdens in Your strong hands and to find our rest in You. In Jesus' name, amen. --- -BURDEN GOD WITH WHAT BURDENS YOU. HE WILL DELIVER YOU!
Here’s how the psalmist began his day: “Every morning, I tell you what I need, and I wait for your answer” (Psalm 5:3).
Spend time waiting on God. And, at the end of the day, thank God for the good parts. Question him about the hard parts. Seek his mercy. Seek his strength. And as you close your eyes, take this assurance into your sleep: “He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:4).
When the communists took over the Soviet Union in the early 20th century, they were described by many in the Western world as “dead men on furlough.” That is, they had died to themselves and to their own ambitions in life and lived solely for the cause of bringing about communism in the world.
I think there’s a thing or two we can learn from that. You see, if these communists could be so committed to their cause of militant economic equality and ridding their culture of God that they would die for it, how much more should believers who anticipate eternal life be committed to their cause of love and salvation?
As Christians, we need to consider ourselves dead men and women on furlough. We no longer belong to ourselves. Our death will come, whether it is decades, years, or days away. The question is what we’ll do with our lives between this day and that day.
Our choice is clear: We either live sold-out for Christ, or we don’t. To be in between on this issue is not a valid option. So beginning today, give the rest of your life to the purposes and plans of God!
--A SENSE OF UNWORTHINESS --By: David Wilkerson [May 19, 1931 - April 27, 2011]
Suddenly, we are plagued by a sense of unworthiness. We turn inward, thinking,"I did it again! I haven't changed at all. I'll never be Christlike. I still react like a babe, not a mature Christian. Why haven't I changed?"
Beloved, the devil wants you to keep worrying over yourshortcomings and lack of growth, thinking the race is impossible, so that you will become discouraged and drop out.
It is certain that we will stumble at times because the race is going to continue until our Lord returns. But we must always get on our feet and continue moving on.
God's Word speaks of overcoming: "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world" (1 John 5:4). "He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son" (Revelation 21:7).
To overcome is to "conquer and get the best of all temptations and obstacles." What are our obstacles? They are every new reaction in the flesh, every failure to be Christlike, every uprising of temper, bitterness or agitation.
David wrote, "My sin is ever before me” (Psalm 51:3). This man was exposed before the whole world as an adulterer and a murderer. He also wrote,"For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. . . . I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long" (Psalm 38:4-6).
What if David had worried and fretted over his failures? He repented wholeheartedly and therefore he could say, "Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness" (Psalm 30:11).
The fastest way to get rid of "a sense of unworthiness" is to trust in Christ's forgiveness. And He is ready to forgive at all times: "For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee" --(Psalm 86:5).~~~
-"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." ----Hebrews 12:1-
I went to a retirement party for a friend of mine awhile back. Now, one thing I love about retirement parties is the fact that so many people gather together to reflect on one person’s impact. Stories were shared of how this person had encouraged and inspired others and helped them to not just be better workers, but better people.
As I sat and listened to story after story of how this man had inspired others, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the great cloud of witnesses described in today’s passage – those believers who’ve gone before us who cheer us on and encourage us as brothers and sisters in the faith.
One very clear example of this in my life is my pastor from years ago, Dr. W. Fred Swank. Dr. Swank is now in heaven, but every time I think about him, I’m encouraged by the example he was, and is, to me today. It’s his example that very often gives me the encouragement I need when times get tough.
As we think about the believers who’ve gone before us, cheering us on and encouraging us in the great race of life, that should encourage us. So reflect on those examples of faithfulness, whether you knew them personally or not. They’re there to give you hope and strength to run the great race of life!
“Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” (Romans 6:13) --
Yesterday we considered our total consecration to God using the first verse of the sweet hymn “Take My Life and Let It Be.” Today we look at verse two.
Take my hands and let them move At the impulse of Thy love. Take my feet and let them be Swift and beautiful for Thee.
This verse considers the use of our hands and feet, and by implication our entire bodies. They can be used in ways that grieve God, but He created them and their proper function is to glorify Him. God desires that we employ our physical abilities to worship Him and serve others, not to please ourselves or engage in sin. He declares, “I will that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting” (1 Timothy 2:8). “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15).
Conversely, “these six things doth the LORD hate . . . A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief” (Proverbs 6:16-18). A fruitful follower of Christ will avoid these things.
He has promised not to let us wander aimlessly. He gives us protection as we go, for “he maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places” (Psalm 18:33). We also have His “roadmap”: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). How can we fail? --ICR/JDM / THY WORD / Amy Grant! <http://youtu.be/FS1LAc5DSCU> ------
-We continue studying through the thoughtful hymn of dedication “Take My Life and Let It Be.” Verse three reads:
Take my voice and let me sing Always, only, for my King. Take my lips and let them be Filled with messages from Thee.
One factor that separates us from the animals is our ability to formulate distinct words and string them together with syntax to communicate complex concepts. The barks and grunts and whistles of animals may convey meaning of sorts but certainly not abstract thought. Only the image of God in man (Genesis 1:27) can communicate directly with other humans and with the Creator of all. The highest use of this ability is to praise and worship Him.
As we worship Him through our singing and praise, our spirits seemingly soar the heavens and enter into sweet fellowship with Him. Here, we can tell Him our burdens and requests and know that He hears us. Praising Him is not only our duty but our blessed privilege and source of blessing.
One day we will gather with heavenly beings and the redeemed of all the ages, praising Him for His great works of creation and redemption.“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created”; and “Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Revelation 4:11; 5:9).
----The Promises of God ---2 Corinthians 1:18-22 =(recommended reading)
The Christian life rests on a foundation of God's promises for today and for the future. We can trust everything that our heavenly Father has said because His Word shows Him to be....
***Truthful. The Lord knows what is true and speaks honestly in all matters. We can be assured of this because He is holy; there is no sin in Him. He is also omniscient and understands everything (Heb. 4:12-13). His promises are based on His infinite knowledge and truthfulness.
***Faithful. Scripture compares the Lord to a shepherd who "gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart" (Isa. 40:11 niv). What He has planned for us, He will bring to fruition (Rom. 8:28). Our heavenly Father does not waver in His intentions or will.
***Loving. God's love for us was demonstrated at the cross. He sent His Son Jesus to die by crucifixion and thereby take the punishment for our sins. The Savior experienced God's wrath against iniquity so we might know only His love. This is the ultimate proof of His devotion to us.
***All-powerful. Divine power created the world and raised the Savior back to life, so we know God has the ability to carry out all His plans. Our omnipotent Father can keep every one of His promises.
A promise is valuable only if the one making it has trustworthy character and the ability to carry through. Our heavenly Father is truthful, faithful, loving, and all-powerful. We can base our entire life on His promises, secure in the knowledge that He will do just as He has said.
'For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.' --Romans 6:23
-A World War II chaplain told the story of a young man he encountered on the battlefield after a particularly bloody day of fighting. The soldier was mortally wounded, and his life was ebbing away. With fearful eyes, the young man looked up at the chaplain and said, “Sir, will I live?”
The chaplain knew it was hopeless, but didn’t know what to say. So he said to the soldier, “Son, are you a believer in Jesus Christ?” And that boy said, “Yessir. The greatest day of my life was the day I became a Christian.”
So the chaplain looked at that young man and said, “Then yes, son. You will live.”
Unless Christ returns, each and every single one of us will one day make that journey from this life to the next. And all that will matter on that day won’t be how much you have, the good works you’ve done, or who you family was. What matters is your 'yes' or your 'no' to Jesus.
Your eternal destiny hinges on that decision. And not only yours, but everyone you know and love. Don’t let another day pass without putting your eternity in Jesus’ hands. Give thanks to God today that Jesus died for you, took away your sins, and gives you eternal life by faith. If you do that, you can step into eternity with confidence!
--Proverbs 18:1-10 ------ The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. --Proverbs 18:10- ------- IN the medieval world, farmers would care for their crops until an enemy appeared on the horizon. Then they would flee with their families to their fortified city for protection from the marauders.
The city of Carcassonne has been a refuge for generations. Built in the 5th century BC, this stone fortress has provided protection for Romans, Gauls, Visigoths, Franks, and French. Its sprawling size and majestic watchtowers and battlements gave confidence to those hiding inside its protective walls.
As believers, we can take refuge in the presence of the living God. The book of Proverbs tells us: "The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe" (Prov. 18:10). "The name of the LORD" refers to God's character--abounding with faithfulness, power, and mercy. The term 'safe' means "set on high out of danger."
We all face threats at times that make us want to run for cover. Some seek security in material wealth or relationships. But the Christ-follower has a more secure refuge. Because of who God is and what He can do for us, our best protection ultimately rests in Him. If you are facing a threat today, go to the Lord, who is a strong tower. --"Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy." --Proverbs 28:13
A young man was coming home late one night, well after his midnight curfew. He didn’t pull into his driveway until almost 2 in the morning. So he took his shoes off, opened the door quietly, and slipped up the stairs as softly as he could.
He had almost made it to the top of the stairs when, all of a sudden, his parents’ cuckoo clock struck 2, “Cuckoo, cuckoo.” He heard his parents stirring in their room, and had the boldest idea he’d ever had. He stood there on the stairs and cuckoo-ed 10 more times!
Now that’s creative, but it’s not telling the truth. In fact, one very neglected aspect of telling the truth is admitting when you’ve made a mistake, rather than covering it up. Confessing when you’re in the wrong is difficult, especially when a little lie like “my dog ate my homework” or “I put those reports on your desk” can pass the blame to someone else.
But when you mess up and confess it, you not only have the reward of a clear conscience, you build rapport as an honest person among those around you. And, most importantly, you glorify God through your obedience. So admit your mistakes and show others they can trust you to be truthful!
Undergirding the teenagers is a Christian youth organization equipping them to demonstrate God's love.
It's easier to do things yourself than to train others, yet Jesus poured Himself into a dozen disciples through whom His work would reach the world. In the midst of the pressing need of people clamoring to be healed, He climbed a mountain where "He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out" (Mark 3:14).
One of those snowboarders in Colorado said of her discipleship training: "I've never been able to build relationships with family or friends; I've kept them at arm's length [The program] showed me God's love. It opened me to reach out to people."
"Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?"
--The "days of evil" seem specifically to refer to old age. Solomon reminds young people to "remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them."
Those who have not "remembered their Creator" may one day come to realize that their iniquities actually involved the venom of that old serpent, the devil. Their sins might even destroy them both now and eternally. But because of Christ's great victory over Satan--when He both died for our sins and then defeated death by His resurrection--we need no longer fear death, even when the evil days are near.
Though it is far better to accept His gift of salvation from sin and death while we are young, it is never too late, as long as we live. So, "wherefore should I fear in the days of evil?" "We have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and..perfect love casteth out fear."
But don’t be fooled, the emotions have the same impact. They keep you from your Father. Pride says, “You’re too good for him. Shame says, “You’re too bad for him.” Pride drives you away, shame keeps you away. If pride is what goes before a fall, then shame is what keeps you from getting up after one. He said that most people answer something like, “Oh no, pastor. I have the peace of God.” But when he asked that question to one particularly outspoken church member, she looked at him and said, “Worried? Are you crazy?! People die in this place!”
He said it was one of the most refreshing things he had ever heard. With so many church people feeling like they have to put on a strong spiritual face in front of their pastors, someone who was brutally honest was a welcome change!
--PAUL reminds us in Philippians to "be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." There is a kind of care that is excessive to the point of distraction, as Martha exhibited. She was overcome by it, but Jesus corrected her: "Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things."
This kind of care or anxiety is to be cast upon the Lord, because God cares for every one of His children. "When he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd."
The 'Prodigal Son' knew what genuine care was. "When he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him." -God desires the best for each of His children, but sometimes we become trapped in habits, thoughts, and negative emotions that interfere with His plans for us. However, Jesus offers us a way out. If we'll continue in His Word, we'll know the truth that sets us free from whatever is holding us in bondage.
To "continue" in the Word means to be consistently reading and applying it to our lives. Then we'll know what God says and be able to recognize the traps that threaten to ensnare us. What's more, we'll understand the benefits accompanying our salvation that enable us to stand firm in truth without being led astray. Those benefits include . . .
• **Our position: Through faith in Christ, we've entered into a personal relationship with God. Now, as His children, we have ready access to His throne along with the assurance that He'll hear our prayers.
• **Our provision: God gave the Bible to guide and encourage us in all situations.
• **Our promises: By relying on the promises He has given us, we'll become partakers of God's nature and escape the world's corrupting influence (2 Pet. 1:4).
• **Our protection: As we walk obediently with Christ, He strengthens and protects us so we won't fall into the traps of the evil One (2 Thess. 3:3).
The first step to living in freedom is to recognize any sins, attitudes, or negative emotions that are dominating your life. The Bible is the most important tool a believer can have on this earth and it serves specific and strategic purposes in every believer’s life.
First, God’s Word gives us spiritual council. There are so many decisions in life to make, some big and some small. And the Bible is there to give us guidance on these decisions.
Do you want to know God’s will for your life? Then get into His Word. Psalm 119:105 promises us that God will guide us every step of the way. You can learn and live the will of God for your life through the promises and principles found in His Word.
God’s Word also offers us spiritual correction. Perhaps you have fallen off the path God has for you, and you want to get going in the right direction. Well, God’s Word is there to lead you back.
Third, God’s Word is there to enable us to face spiritual conflict. Satan and his team of evil forces are working all around us, all the time. And it’s crucial that you are armed with the knowledge, truth, and power found in God’s Word. The Bible enables us to conquer our spiritual problems as well as face the daily burdens that we all have in life!
And finally, God’s Word offers us spiritual communion with God. When we study the Word of God, we get to know God’s character. It’s not just an ancient book, irrelevant to today’s culture. God’s Word is alive and it is there to change your life!
It’s my prayer that you as you faithfully read, study, memorize, mediate, obey, and share God’s Word, your life will never be the same!
From then onward, our faith—or lack of it—shapes our lives and determines what happens to us when the winds of adversity blow. --Inherited faith: If you grew up in a Christian home, you probably adopted some of the beliefs of your parents. This kind of godly foundation is a wonderful gift from the Lord, but eventually, each person must assume responsibility for his own beliefs.
--Textbook faith: The Bible is the ultimate guide for establishing our beliefs. But that’s not the only source of influence. Books, preachers, teachers, and friends all impact our convictions. Our theology may in fact be sound, but faith is merely mental acceptance until it’s put to the test.
--Proven Faith: Only when we trust the Lord through the fires of adversity will we have faith that can stand. It is no longer based on what others have told us or what we’ve accepted as true but on our firsthand experience of His faithfulness.
-To evaluate your faith, consider how you react to adversity. Do you cling to the Lord or get angry at Him? Is your attitude one of rejoicing because He’s making you more like His Son, or are you bitter? No one can escape adversity, but those with proven faith will benefit from it. --IN TOUCH~~
-'For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith.' --(1 John 5:4)~~ -We grow spiritually by reading the Word of God, talking to Him in prayer, and sharing His Word with others. We are in a sanctification process until we reach the Heavenly City.
So don't beat yourself up, or feel that you have failed God if you lack faith in some areas. Ask the Lord to help you overcome this, and Press On. Paul admonishes us, "Don't look back. Anyone having put his hand to the plow and looking back is not fit for the kingdom of God."
Paul was, in his own words, the worst of sinners. He persecuted the Christians, until the Lord Jesus knocked him to the ground on the Damascus Road. He was blinded for several days, and the Lord spoke to him that he would be the one to carry forth the Word of God. That is how we have the New Testament (Gospels), Paul diligently sought to spread the truth, that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, and no one can come to the Father except through the Lord Jesus. -Now we have the privilege to spread the Gospel to a lost and dying world. Jesus said, "This Gospel of the kingdom will be preached to the whole world then the end will come." --(Matthew 24:14)~ Let's get busy, Christians. It may be your very words that awakens another to know the Truth of Jesus Christ and be saved.
-“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for Thou art my praise.” --(Jeremiah 17:14)
--There are two kinds of wounds to the human psyche. One is sorrow; the other is guilt. Sorrow is a clean wound. Somehow your heart will heal as the Holy Spirit applies His healing balm. He will pour in “the oil of gladness.” Time and the grace of God will heal.
But 'guilt' is dirty and will never heal until it is confessed and cleansed by the antiseptic of Calvary. A slave only fears his master’s whip, but a son fears his father’s displeasure.
Are you suffering under a load of guilt? Allow the Holy Spirit to expose your sin. Then confess it and experience the joy of forgiveness in Christ.
--Paul reminded the church at Corinth the kind of love Christ offers to us– Agape love that “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.” Don’t we need the same prescription today? Don’t groups still fight with each other? Don’t we flirt with those we shouldn’t? Aren’t we sometimes quiet when we should speak?
Someday there will be a community where everyone behaves and no one complains. But it won’t be this side of heaven. So till then we reason, we confront, and we teach. But most of all we love. Such love isn’t easy. Not even for Jesus.
--To humble ourselves, we must first be willing to detect pride in our heart. But recognizing it isn't the same as getting rid of it. Here are several common areas of pride and some solutions for dealing with them.
--Possessions. Start giving things away. We can begin by honoring God with our tithe. He promises that our nine-tenths will go farther than ten-tenths. The next step is to give to someone in need who can give nothing in return. But don't parade your generosity around; keep it as secret as you can (Matt. 6:1-4).
--Position. Acknowledge that whatever you have accomplished, God has done it for you (Isa. 26:12). Then ask Him to show you an area of service that has no rank or credit. Knowing that the Lord values every kind of service, we shouldn't hesitate to request a place that is lower than we're accustomed to. Our position in this world matters only to the extent that we use it to glorify God (James 1:9-11).
--Privilege. Realize that many things you may take pride in come through privilege. None of us is truly "self-made"; no matter how hard you've worked, others have made sacrifices to allow you the opportunities and freedoms you enjoy. Remember, it is actually God's grace that has blessed you with whatever knowledge you may credit yourself for having.
No matter what kind of pride we deal with, we must take the focus off of ourselves, turning it first to God and then to others. When we are willing to confront our pride actively, God will replace it with a spirit of humility that fits who we are in Christ. --In Touch~--/ Jesus Paid It All/ Don Moen <https://youtu.be/Me0eLOedntg>
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
-SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE WRONG IDEA ABOUT the Christian life. Once they become believers, they expect smooth sailing. Yet Jesus made it clear that troubles are inevitable for God's children. His own life was no exception: He endured false accusations, rejection by His own people, and betrayal by a close friend--to name just a few.
As His followers, we can expect difficulty. The cause of tribulation differs with each circumstance. Some problems arise from the fallen nature of the world, while others result from satanic warfare. And we can cause our own heartache from ignorance, sin, and poor decisions. There's also another possibility--sometimes God Himself brings trials. While this last option is difficult to accept during a painful time, the Lord never brings hardship unless He has a beautiful purpose. And He gives strength to endure.
-Remember, God allows struggles--whatever their source--for our benefit. Perhaps they are to purify and grow us for greater service. Maybe He has in mind to test our endurance and devotion to Christ, thereby strengthening our trust. Or He might be revealing His sustaining power. This side of Heaven, we may never know the cause of each challenge. But we can trust God's ability to deliver and mature us.
What trials are you facing? Jesus understands your pain, and He longs to be the One you cling to through good times and bad. You can choose to look elsewhere for comfort, or you can use your hardship as a source of growth. No matter how painful the trial seems don't waste the opportunity. --IN TOUCH~~ ("Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. --GRACE AND FORGIVENESS ARE UNEARNED GIFTS~~
--So many times we remember our sins and feel we must do something to earn God's forgiveness. But God has said it is by grace, not by works, that we are saved (EPH.2:8-9). Speaking of a New Covenant, God promised Israel, "I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more" (JER.31:34). We have a God who forgives and no longer calls to mind the wrongs we have done.
We may still feel sad about our past, but we need to trust His Promises and believe His grace and forgiveness is real through faith in Jesus Christ. This news should lead us to thankfulness and the assurance faith brings. When God forgives, He forgets. Let's follow in His steps. ~~
-"Dear Lord, thank You for Your grace and Your offer of salvation and forgiveness through Christ. Thank You for this free gift that is not based on anything I can do, but on what you have already done for me. You paid my, (our), sin-debt by dying on that Cross. Hallelujah, What a Savior!~amen"~~
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ----(Isaiah 41:10 NIV)--
---Worry has to do with fearing the future; it is anticipating that something bad will happen. There is an inverse relationship between faith and worry: Faith diminishes as worry flourishes, and worry diminishes as faith flourishes. Worry is saying, “I don’t think God can handle this, so I am going to pick it up. I am going to invest time and emotional energy in my fear and anxiety, even knowing that I am not going to change the outcome one bit.”
Scripture has much to say about worry, with the overarching message being “Don’t do it!” What Scripture does tell us to do is 'Cast our cares upon God and trust Him with the future. He has promised to not abandon us, but to strengthen us, help us, and uphold us. What do we have to fear when the God of the Universe is on our side?
***THINK ABOUT IT --What is your response to challenging situations? "Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you."~~ --(1 Peter 5:7)--
--WE ALL WORRY. We worry about so many things. Some of our worries focus on what hasn't even happened. We worry about that which cannot be changed. Our problem becomes worse when we know that God does not want us to worry as today's reading from Matthew makes clear. We realize that worry never solves problems and is detrimental to our health and hinders relationships--and then we worry about worrying!
Peter encourages us to throw all of our worries upon Jesus. The reason Peter gives as God's solution to our problem of worry is that God cares for us! His care for us showed itself when Jesus died on Calvary and then rose to deliver us from all our sins.
-"Come to Me, all who are labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Jesus speaks these words and invites all people, including you and me, to come to Him with their problems. He knows all of us have real or imagined problems, and we worry about them. --WHEN TRIALS ARISE -- ~ / A God We Can Trust ~~ --(Please Read PSALM 37:1-9)
--SCRIPTURE REPEATEDLY ADMONISHES US to trust in the Lord. When times are good, this doesn't seem difficult. However, when trials arise, it is much harder to rely fully upon Him.
Yet it is always important for us to place our trust in the living G-D, YAHWEH, YHWH. Especially when everything around us seems to be falling apart. This may well have been the situation that inspired the writing of Psalm 37.
In today's passage, David mentions several times that we should not fret (VV. 1, 7, 8). Distress over a situation is the opposite of trust, and fretting has ill effects. For one thing, it can take a toll on physical and emotional well-being. Another problem is that feeding worry can lead to wrongdoing. And by attempting to resolve the situation quickly in our human way, we may miss God's best solution. Yet another consequence is that our angst may undermine our witness for the kingdom because we will not be reflecting God's peace in all that we do.
What, then, is the antidote for worry and stress during a difficult time? Absolute trust in Christ.Psalm 55:22 says, "Cast your burden upon the LORD, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." This means we are to lay all our burdens at His feet, believing that He is good, loving, and in control. When trials arise, do you run toward the Lord? Or do you try to handle things yourself: He who created you can handle any difficulty and pain, even when it seems overwhelming. What He desires is your surrender and trust. It is in His arms that you will find rest for your soul. ~~ ---IN TOUCH----/ "We Fall Down" // Passion Worship ~ <https://youtu.be/23n30v08v94> -------------------
“We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.” --(1 Samuel 8:19-20 / NIV) --
---Peer pressure is causing God’s people to second-guess His plan and say, “We want to be like everybody else!” “Syncretism” is the fancy word for what’s happening, and it means to compromise the integrity of one faith by combining it with another faith. The Israelites said, “We don’t want to reject God. We just want to bring in some ungodly things too.” That’s really at the heart of compromise for God’s people. We don’t want to be limited or exclusionary. We don’t want to be too different. We just want to fit in. We want the blessings of God, but we want to be able to blend in among the ungodly. The desire to compromise and accommodate the world is a very powerful motivation in our lives, but it does not come from the Spirit of God. If you find hints of rebellion bubbling up in you, do not give them room to grow. Determine to seek the Lord only, and find your contentment in Him.
**THINK ABOUT IT** Fear of people’s reactions is the strong undercurrent of “wanting to blend in.” This fear is idolatry and will always oppose the lordship of Jesus, even while claiming devotion to His saving grace. Remember, our confession is: Jesus is Lord!
---THE ILLUSION OF CONTROL / WE MUST TRUST IN GOD'S PLANS ~~~
---"You do not even know what will happen tomorrow." -----(James 4:14)--
---Ellen Langer’s 1975 study titled The Illusion of Control examined the level of influence we exert over life’s events. She found that we overestimate our degree of control in most situations. The study also demonstrated how reality nearly always shatters our illusion.
----Langer’s conclusions are supported by experiments carried out by others since the study was published. However, James identified the phenomenon long before she named it. In James 4, he wrote, “Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (vv. 13-14).
Then James provides a cure for the delusion, pointing to the One who’s in absolute control: “Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that’” (v. 15). In these few verses, James summarized both a key failing of the human condition and its antidote.
May we understand that our fate doesn’t rest in our own hands. Because God holds all things in His capable hands, we can trust His plans!
~~~I kept my eyes closed for a moment after waking. I wanted to savor the feeling of thankfulness. God had been healing me, and I had been learning to live with the changes and continuing pain from my fall. The journey since my broken collarbone and cracked rib led my husband, Charlie, and me to put our condominium on the market. We were better at trusting God and had accepted an offer for the purchase price, a blessing in our recession-struck city. Today, I felt a moment of bliss.
Then Charlie walked into the room. "The buyer pulled out." "Oh, No!" I closed my eyes and howled in sadness and frustration. I could see the future we thought God had provided us collapsing into one big mess. Another fall. Another mistake. Another accident. The doubts and depressing thoughts overwhelmed me. I was tired of trying to think positive. What did God want from me? What was I suppose to learn from this?
I opened my eyes and saw Charlie seated on the edge of the bed, head in hands, his back to me.
Abruptly, the packed boxes, the vision of Christmas in the gleaming new apartment, my self-pity were all swept away. This man, who had done so much for me, loved me through everything, was hurting as much as---maybe even more than---I was. He counted on my faith to strengthen his.

Even though I wasn't feeling a lot of love and admiration for my husband at that moment, I knew he loved me; and I didn't want my unforgiving attitude to damage our relationship.
It was incredible how quickly our day improved once I changed my attitude. Every time I choose to honor Bert rather than chiding him about something or giving him the silent treatment, I feel better about him, myself, and our marriage. ----Let’s suppose I’ve got a problem that has my stomach in knots with persistent worry. Friends and family try to be understanding, but after a time they grow weary of me taking my anguish out on them. I’m so focused on this issue that it feels as if I’m carrying a heavy load on my shoulders. The Lord offers a liberating alternative: “Cast your burden upon [Me] and [I] will sustain you” (Psalm 55:22). Though He doesn’t erase the ills that invade this life, He instead shields us from the weight of worry by taking our situation into His own hands.
However, the call to a peaceful life is impossible without confidence in the Lord. That trust is built through a relationship with Him—praying through trials and triumphs, seeking His guidance, and testing His Word to see that it is true and practical for life.
When we’ve experienced God’s faithfulness and believe He will continue to act on behalf of His followers (Isa. 64:4), that’s when peace is possible. In fact, it is not only possible but promised to the believer who trusts in Him (Phil. 4:6-7). But unshakeable peace isn’t instantaneous; it is cultivated through a consistent relationship with the Lord. --IN TOUCH~~--"Confidence" // Sanctus Real (Worship Video) //<https://youtu.be/CFhXAZNcMMs> ~~~~~~~~~

~~Debbie, the owner of a housecleaning service, was always searching for more clients to build up her business. On one call she talked with a woman whose response was, “I won’t be able to afford that now; I’m undergoing cancer treatment.” Right then Debbie decided that “no woman undergoing cancer treatment would ever be turned away. They would even be offered a free housecleaning service.” So in 2005 she started a nonprofit organization where companies donated their cleaning services to women battling cancer. One such woman felt a rush of confidence when she came home to a clean house. She said, “For the first time, I actually believed I could beat cancer.”
A feeling of being cared for and supported can help sustain us when we’re facing a challenge. An awareness of God’s presence and support can especially bring hope to encourage our spirit. Psalm 46, a favorite of many people going through trials, reminds us: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” and “Be still, and know that I am God; . . . I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us” (vv. 1, 10-11).
Reminding ourselves of God’s promises and His presence with us can be a means to help renew our hearts and give us the courage and confidence to go through hard times. 'Lead us to others that we can help, pray with, and keep in touch with others, all glory to Your Name, our Rock and our Redeemer.'

Death seems to take so much. We bury the wedding that never happened, the golden years we never knew. We bury dreams. But in heaven these dreams will come true. Acts 3:21 says that God has promised a “restoration of all things.” - All things includes all relationships.
Our final home will hear no “goodbyes.” Gone forever. Let the promise change you. From sagging to seeking, from mournful to hopeful! From dwellers in the land of goodbyes to a heaven of hellos! You’ll get through this!

--WHENEVER I READ the story of Joseph's early life, I get caught up in the conflict, emotional tension, and turmoil.But then I sigh when I reach chapter 45 and see a beautiful picture of peace and restored relationships. After Joseph revealed his identity, he assured his brothers that what had happened to him was part of God's plan. Joseph released them from their burden of guilt. Once they recovered from their shock that Joseph was alive, they sat down and talked about how things had changed. The formerly despised brother is now a powerful leader. The guilty brothers are not only forgiven but protected and provided for by the one they had wronged. The aging father still grieving the loss of his beloved son learns he is not only alive, but greatly honored; he'll soon see him again. A family struggling to survive the famine is promised the best Egypt has to offer.
When God takes evil and works good out of it, unbelievable things happen. And it's all because of His grace. Joseph's story is thrilling, but the New Testament shows how grace took the form of a human being. Amazing things happened after Jesus came to earth. Broken bodies and broken hearts were healed. Weary souls found hope and a way opened to find forgiveness and eternal life.
I'm convinced that Jesus can take all the broken dreams, strained relationships, and past mistakes in my life and use them for good. [Romans 8:28] ~ I want to grow in trust and obedience so that one day I will look back and say, "How things have changed --all because of God's unfathomable GRACE!"
--"When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, "Woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home." --[John 19:26-27 / NIV] --
--I'm thankful that God speaks to me in various ways, especially when I need direction or confirmation. Sometimes I read a Bible passage and the Holy Spirit helps me see its connection to my current situation. Or when I listen to an online sermon as I do my chores, I sense Jesus speaking to me personally.
Such was the case when the preacher I was listening to one morning talked about 'Taking Care Of Aging Parents'. The preacher mentioned the example of one of Jesus's closest disciples, John. During His last hours on the cross, Jesus entrusted His mother Mary to John. Jesus made sure that His beloved disciple would provide for and protect His beloved mother.
The preacher observed that children may take care of their aging parents, but in return those who take care of their parents are blessed. In the case of John, he was certainly honored and blessed by Jesus asking him to take care of Mary. I could imagine John and Mary exchanging stories about Jesus and encouraging each other to follow His teaching.
As I listened to the sermon, I felt that Jesus was speaking to me that morning--reminding me that while providing care for my father was tiring, in the process I've experienced Jesus's strength.My love for my father has also increased, and I've been able to express my love for him by keeping him company and serving him--and that's a blessing beyond measure. These memories will always stay with me. ~~

~~~A prisoner carved these words on the wall of a concentration camp: I believe in the sun, even though it doesn’t shine. I believe in love, even when it isn’t shown. I believe in God, even when he doesn’t speak. What eyes could have seen good in such horror? There is only one answer: eyes that chose to see the unseen.
As the apostle Paul wrote, “We set our eyes not on what we see but on what we cannot see. What we see will last only a short time, but what we cannot see will last forever” (2 Corinthians 4:18). Jesus asks us to make a choice. Either to live by the facts or to see by faith. When tragedy strikes, we, are left to choose what we see. We can see either the hurt or the Healer. The choice is ours. Jesus is as close as the mention of His Name.
---Water. All Noah can see is water. You can relate. You’ve known your share of floods. Flooded by sorrow at the cemetery, anger at the disability in your body, fear of the uncertainty of a pandemic. And you’ve needed what Noah needed; you’ve needed hope. Sometimes all we need is a little hope. That’s all Noah needed, and that’s what Noah received. This is how the Bible describes the moment: “When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf!” (Genesis 8:11).
Hope is an olive leaf—evidence of dry land after a flood. Could you use some hope? Could you use a fresh start? At some point in life we all could. And the oh-so-welcome news of Scripture is this: our God is a God of fresh starts.
---AT THE phone store, the young pastor steeled himself for bad news. His smartphone, accidentally dropped during our Bible class, what a total loss, right? Actually , no. The store clerk recovered all of the pastor's data, including his Bible videos and photos. She also recovered "every photo I'd ever deleted," he said. The store also "replaced my broken phone with a brand-new phone." As he said, "I recovered all I had lost and more."
David once led his own recovery mission after an attack by the vicious Amalekites. Spurned by Philistine rulers, David and his army discovered the Amalekites had raided and burned down their town of Ziklag--taking captive "the women and everyone else in it," including all their wives and children (1 Samuel 30:2-3). "So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep" (v.4). The soldiers were so bitter with their leader David that they talked of "stoning him" (v.6).
"But David found strength in the LORD his God:" (v.6). As God promised, David pursued the Amalekits and "recovered everything the Amalekies had taken...Nothing was missing: young or old, boy or girl, plunder of anything else they had taken. David brought everything back" (vv. 18-19). As we face spiritual attacks that "rob" us even of hope, may we find renewed strength in God. He will be with us in every challenge of life. ~
--During forty years of marriage, my husband, Rick, and I have argued about one thing in particular: I love being prepared and doing things ahead of schedule; Rick is laid-back and never worries.
One night, during the 11:00 p.m. news, the weatherman forecast the possibility of snow.. "We better run to the grocery store," I said.
"Nah, its not going to snow." "What if it does? What if we lose power? The freezer's full of meat. "Relax," he said.
"How? We could be homebound if a blizzard strikes."
Sure enough, the next morning the house was cold and dark. No power. No heat. I peered into our snow-covered backyard. "The weatherman and I were right, " I said, annoyance creeping into my tone.
"I'll set up the generator," he replied, getting out of bed. "What generator?" "The one I bought a few years ago." Minutes later Rick restored enough power to save the meat, and keep the refrigerator running for a few hours,... and make coffee.
I'd doubted my husband would take care of me, the same way I'd doubted God could handle my fears and worries. Filled with admiration and gratitude. I crunched my way through our snowy yard, smelling the woodsy air.
-"I worried for nothing. Your survival skills are quite impressive." Rick winked at me. "Just doing my job, ma'am."
-"Thank You, Lord Jesus for always having everything under control.~"
--We planned to meet under the big oak tree to pray for Sarah. It was still early after her diagnosis, and only a few of us knew the battle she was facing. We knew that within the week, letters would be sent, a port would scar her chest, her hair would begin to fall out.
We knew that without God, none of us would survive the coming months.
And so we met under that tree, leaves blowing down from waving branches, our hands clasping each other's, our faces streaming with tears. And we prayed that God take this burden from Sarah, that she would be miraculously healed, that He would get all of the glory.
There was a moment when the hand grasping mine clenched a bit tighter and I looked up to see tears, eyes full of desperation. Every woman in that circle paused. Considered. Swallowed hard.
And then the terrifying, hopeful words were said: "Not our wills but Thine be done."
And so our prayers changed. We prayed that God would fill us with peace and hope regardless of the circumstances; that He would surround Sarah, her husband, her children, and us with His unfailing, undying, undiminishing love; that our wills would align with His; that we would be able to rely totally on Him.
---Rest for the soul. Isn’t that what we need? The story is told about a poor man who lived in Eastern Europe in the early 1900s. He scraped together enough money to buy a third-class ticket on a steamship to New York City. He subsisted for the twelve-day journey on cheese and crackers. On the final day of the voyage, the man stood at the railing beside one of the ship’s stewards. “Why have we not seen you in the dining room?” asked the steward. The traveler explained his lack of money. The steward responded with shock, “Did you not know that three meals a day were included in your ticket? We set you a place every day, but you never came.”
God has set you a place at his table. Avail yourself of every spiritual strength and blessing. Heaven knows, we need the help. And heaven knows, the help is here. --
---Lara and Dave desperately wanted a baby, but their physician told them they were unable to have one. Lara confided to a friend: "I found myself having some very honest talks with God." But it was after one of those "talks" that she and Dave spoke to their pastor, who told them about an adoption ministry at their church. A year later they were blessed with an adopted baby boy.
In Genesis 15, the Bible tells of another honest conversation--this one between Abram and God. God had told him, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am.... your very great reward " (v.1). But Abram, uncertain of God's promises about his future, answered candidly: "Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless?" (v.2)
Earlier God had promised Abram , "I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth" (13:16). Now Abram -- in a very human moment--reminded God of that. But note God's response: He assured Abram by telling him to look up and "count the stars--if indeed you can," indicating his descendants would be beyond numbering ((15:5).
How good is God, not only to allow such candid prayer but also to gently reassure Abram! Later, God would change his name to Abraham (father of many). Like Abraham, you and I can openly share our hearts with Him and know that we can trust Him to do what's best for us and others.
--Jesus wants us, His people to stay close to Him. The best way is in prayer.
---Praying to Our Sovereign God ---[John 15:7-16]
Have you ever wondered why the Lord wants us to pray? After all, He controls everything, and His plans won’t fail because of our lack of intercession. Yet amazingly, through prayer, He allows us the privilege of being involved in His work. Prayer connects inadequate people to an all-sufficient God.
One of the reasons for prayer is that it teaches us to depend on God. That’s why Philippians 4:6 tells us to talk with our Father about everything. James 4:2 adds that sometimes the reason we don’t receive is because we haven’t bothered to ask. However, this doesn’t mean we’ll automatically receive whatever we request. God isn’t subservient to us—He works all things after the counsel of His will, not ours.
Another reason we should pray is because God wants us to bear much fruit. If we abide in Christ and His words abide in us, our requests will align with His will, and we’ll receive what we ask (John 15:7). Then our faith will be strengthened to trust Him in even greater ways. And the more we rely on Him to provide, protect, and guide us, the deeper our relationship with Him will grow.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
--"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them." ---[Acts 16:25]
---RAIN blurred the windshield as we drove home. The road was slick; high way traffic, cautious. Suddenly a car zoomed past us and the two trucks ahead. It swerved into our lane and cut off the first truck. Both vehicles sopped abruptly to avoid collision. My husband, Gene, tried to do the same, but our tires slid Crash!. Our car was totaled, but we expressed thanks when we prayed later that night. We thanked Jesus for protecting everyone involved, for sending first responders, for quickly sending a tow truck and for stopping the rainstorm as we waited roadside for a taxi.
It's easy to give thanks and praise when the story ends well---but not so much when bad stuff happens. Paul and Silas experienced terrible circumstances . Stripped and beaten with rods and then locked in stocks in the worst cell, they had reason to complain. Instead they sang hymns and prayed.
Luke 6:45 says, "Out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks (ESV). Clearly Paul and Silas's hearts were filled with hope and joy. The only explanation for their ability to respond as they did was their faith in the risen Christ (Acts 16:31). They'd encountered Him and understood the power of His resurrection (Philippians 3:10-11). His Spirit lived in them, and the hope and joy He produced spilled over under pressure.
--Apart from Jesus, few can respond like Silas and Paul. When love for Jesus fills our hearts, we, too, will praise Him under pressure.
--"Thank You, Lord Jesus, that you never change. Help us to stay close to You and your Word."
---Romans 8:28 (NIV®) ----"We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." --
---For this verse to have real meaning, you need to believe in an omnipotent, transcendent God. You have to believe that the same God who spoke the earth into existence is working for your good today—no matter the circumstances.
If you find yourself on a mountaintop with everything looking up, is God working for your good? If you love Him, yes, He is. If you find yourself in a valley of despair and wondering how you will make it, is God working for your good? If you love Him, yes, He is. God allows us to act on our free will and reap the rewards and consequences, and He allows us to experience the joys and frustrations of life. But on the mountaintops and in the valleys, on days when we celebrate and days when we despair, God is working for our good. We may not understand why things happen as they do, but we can be assured that He is at work to accomplish His purposes in our lives.
THINK ABOUT IT Faith is believing God’s promises even when they seem impossible or untrue. God fulfills His plan, no matter the circumstances. That is just who He is, and that is just what He does. PRAYER --"Heavenly Father, forgive me for when I have doubted You when life went dark. I do love You, and I resolve to always believe that You are at work in me and in others, no matter what life looks like. Thank You for Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, amen." --WOC/AJ [Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. --[Hebrews 13:8]
--It was time for the eggs in the incubator to hatch. But out of the twelve eggs, only one actually hatched. I dug a hole in the garden and disposed of all the rotten and smelly eggs, covering them with the soil and smooth the surface. Who would guess what is under the ground? Our collie dog Buddy was watching every move. He knew what was buried and wanted to get it. He soon dug out the smelly stuff and indulged in it as dogs like to do. The eggshells were scattered ang the buried filth was exposed.
When we confess our sins and receive Christ as our Savior, our sins are completely taken away. In fact, God has promised to cast al our sins "into the depths of the sea." (Micah 7:19). "now, and let us reason together saith the LORD though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they be red like crimson they shall be as wool" (Isaiah 1:8).
Like the dog, however, the devil wants to come along and dig up our smelly past. displaying it for all to see. We ourselves can dig up unsavory memories, either to agonize over past sins or to tell stories of our mischief for entertainment. It is good to remember Romans 6:21: "What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death." When we counsel troubled souls, they may need to uncover some things of the past so the heart can heal. But then they must reach forth and "press toward the mark" as today's key verse says. (Romans 6).
