Three teaspoons of cloves a day is a very large dose. Most of the time when they talk about toxicity of cloves, they are talking about the oil, although I can imagine powdered cloves could also be a problem in large doses. I have not seen any suggested maximum amount for powdered cloves. I tried searching the net for this, and couldn't find a good answer. I saw things such as food quantities are safe, but as a spice, I doubt people use more than 1/4 of a teaspoon per person each day. My gut feeling is that a teaspoon a day is probably the maximum you should take. I read one web page talking about wormwood and other medicinal herbs that might be toxic in larger doses or over longer periods, and they said that essentially it would be much less toxic to take 1/3 the dose of three different ones than the large dose of a single one. Just something to think about. cloves are great for fighting candida and parasites. perhaps 1/3 of a teaspoon three times a day(after each meal?)might be a better idea, especially if you eat a clove of garlic with it.
