Although wormwood isn't terribly popular these days, it used to be used fairly commonly for amenorrhea (suppressed or absent menstruation) to stimulate menstruation. According to one of the textbooks I have that discusses herbal treatment for menstrual disorders, "For 1 or 2 months, there are likely to be unfamiliar changes in the menstrual cycle, occasionally even a worsening of the original problem Then from the third or fourth cycle there is often a real sense that a normal rhythm is emerging." It sounds as though your body may be trying to self-correct and is actually over-correcting for the moment. Stopping the wormwood is a good idea. You'll also want to be sure to eat plenty of foods that are rich in iron, so as not to develop an iron deficiency. If such heavy bleeding persists, you might consider taking Yarrow or even a female herbal formula called FCS II, which combines several herbs with similar actions for correcting menstrual problems. If you decide to see a doctor, be sure to have him/her check for fibroids, as this can sometimes be the case with profuse bleeding. However, since you haven't had a cycle for some months, this may just be your body readjusting, as I mentioned before. I hope this information helps. Keep us posted.
