"There is something curious about people who suffer from candida, though. Often, these same people also claim to have some sort of gluten intolerance. Through my readings, I have also found out that gluten intolerance and Celiac disease can diminish the body’s ability to absorb certain vitamins and minerals. One of these is copper. Although all minerals are necessary for a fully functioning body, I think that copper has been especially undervalued. Copper is just as necessary to produce red blood cells as iron is (in fact, a deficiency of copper leads to anemia – I have experienced this personally). As well, copper plays a major role in producing white blood cells. As my earlier blood tests indicated, my WBCs were well below normal ranges. I think that this scenario is probably very common for people who suffer from candida. As we all know, fewer white blood cells diminish the body’s ability to stave infection, making us susceptible to illness. Before I realized how low my copper actually was, I would wake up in the morning with clumps of sticky white matter in around my gums (yes, I know, very disgusting). However, this has changed completely since my addition of a copper supplement to my diet. Symptoms of copper deficiency: -yeast overgrowth -low white blood cell counts -anemia -low HDL cholesterol, elevated LDL cholesterol -abnormal neurological conditions " http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/candida/
