I saw a great naturopath...she put me on chlorella, ala, garlic, and vitc for the removal process(2x day)...She tested my body for all of these working together...and my body accepts all of these, and strengthens with these...My QUESTION is...How long will this take for my body to rid the metals...Compared to oral DMSA every 2 weeks????Thanks

Didn't you ask the doctor how long it might take?

Sandra, It's very difficult to say how quickly your body, with the help of these supplements, will rid you of the metals. I've been mercury-free for 5 1/2 years and I still take chlorella 5 days per week because I believe in pacing my detox so I can live comfortably and so I will redistribute as little mercury as possible. I also want to add that you should always be taking Algin with any chelators. Naturopaths are awesome and have helped many when convention medicine could not, however, shockingly few of them know about Algin, and how it helps keep blood-mercury levels down. Keep us posted on your progress.

She didn't really say how long it would take....but slower than iv chelation....but much easier on the body...and then no mineral problems...I just find taking it every day...makes me feel crappier right now..but I've only been doing it for a week....I feel like i have the flu and my whole body is congested(she did say that i also have a virus with /metals)...so maybe this is a good sign....feeling crappy!!!maybe it means my body is finally shifting into fighting gear...lol

I found Chinese Chlorella (which seems to be Chlorella with ALA and other things included) a great help. I still experience highs and lows, but at least there are highs now, wheras before they're weren't any. Do make sure the Chlorella is good quality Chlorella -- perhaps you could test out different brands -- as I've heard Chlorella attracts mercury in its natural environment.
I've been taking Chlorella for around 3 months now, and I have seen improvements, particularly with my gut, but I'd still classify myself as ill.
I will also try taking garlic.

It could be the mercury detoxing causing the symptoms, but I thought I'd mention a few things about chlorella just in case symptoms persist.
Chlorella contains high amounts of iron. If you're extra sensitive to mercury (which I'm guessing you are) you could potentially be sensitive to other metals such as iron, chromium, zinc and so forth.
Chlorella is rich in chlorophyll which again contains high amounts of vitamin K. This vitamin coagulates blood so could make your blood sticky causing symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog and flu-like feelings.
Chlorella packaged in aluminium foil could potentially contain alu from the wrapping.
Chlorella is very high in vitamin A (beta caroten). If your liver is compromised it will have problems detoxing vitamin A and cause a build up resulting in a toxic feeling.
Because of the above reasons I use Chlorella infrequently and make sure I take a kind of blood thinner when I use it. Such as garlic, ginger and bromelain (pineapple enzyme).
Chlorella is great for chelating the gut of metals, but will not chelate the nervous system. Neither will garlic, ALA, Algin or vitamin C. Some of them only mobilize/move mercury around, but will not remove from the brain area. Most of the bodily problems associated with mercury poisoning such as digestive allergies, fatigue, aches and pains and of course all the mental symptoms originate from a poisoned, non-functioning hypothalamus and pitiuary gland. These as VERY important to chelate in order to rid yourself of all the other symptoms. The hypothalamus also controls the adrenal glands which in themselves can cause a whole list of symptoms if the hypothalamus isn't able to send the correct messages.
Cilantro will actually remove mercury from the central nervous system. ALA mobilizes in the CNS and DMSA grabs hold of the mobilized mercury. Other chelators I have no experince with.
Hope this helps some
PS. If you're concerned about mercury in the gut getting redistributed, I highly recommend using a very high fiber bran cereal (with water not milk as calcium will prevent detoxing). Studies have proven that this kind of fiber binds with hg in the gut.

Err, awful fatigue and brain fog are my mercury related symptoms. Saying that overuse of Chlorella may cause these things seems a little bizarre. For me Chlorella helps my fatigue more than anything. A while back I attacked the candida in my gut and the resultant mercury that was released gave me awful brain fog. I'm attacking the candida again, with probiotics, and now i'm taking chlorella with it I'm feeling a lot better. Chlorella is great for chelating the gut of metals, but will not chelate the nervous system. Neither will garlic, ALA, Algin or vitamin C. Some of them only mobilize/move mercury around, but will not remove from the brain area.
I've heard ALA helps remove mercury from the brain. Perhaps it was just mobilising it, but then this needs to be done to get it out in the first place. Cilantro will actually remove mercury from the central nervous system.
I heard Cilantro/Coridander merely mobilises the mercury, and you need something to soak it up. It seems we have heard different things. I am going to lay off the Chlorella for 5 days to see how I feel.

Hi, I also thought ala mobilizes from the brain...Culter says this....Doesn't he??? But I am also on homeopathics...so I think this helps all over...I'm sure my bodys vital force will eventually push it out

ALA mobilizes but that's not the same as remove.....Therefore whenever taking any of the above, you will experience symptoms, but you're not getting rid of the problem in the brain area.

The same is said about cilantro/coriander, it just mobilises he mercury.
Thanks for that post, as after reading it I went and brought a all-brain cereal. After eating it straight from the cereal box, I subsequently had a large bowel movement and I now feel great.

I found the abstract from the study that Anonymous may be referring to. Although it did say that both the soluble and insoluble fiber from wheat bran can bind to mercury, it also said: Colon fermentation released part of the heavy metal ions from dietary fibers. "An in vitro study of wheat bran binding capacity for Hg, Cd, and Pb." Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry; 1999. Thus, if these heavy metal ions are being released (coming unbound), it seems to me that some of the mercury is likely to be reabsorbed and redistributed. I would love to see a study done comparing the effects of Algin against other fibers. However, it seems more like common sense that if a fiber has gelatinous (gel-forming) properties, it will better absorb metal ions than a fiber that doesn't. In any case, mercury is primarily eliminated through the bowels, which is why it's very important to keep the bowels moving. This is also why I personally think it's so important to use Algin. Once other chelators mobilize and/or bind to the mercury, the body's detoxification pathways with ultimately dump much of this mercury into the bowels, which, if not entirely eliminated, will likely get reabsorbed back into the blood and redeposited somewhere. Because of Algin's gelatinous properties, it has a special affinity for absorbing heavy metals and other toxins. I personally haven't found other types of fiber to work as well. But, if someone can't take Algin, I would at least recommend lots of fiber, preferably mucilaginous fiber like Slippery Elm, which may have more absorbing properties than dietary fiber. Good luck!

About the cilantro, that's what I thought too until I tried it myself. My concentration, memory and mental awareness in general have improved tremendously. And I was severely poisoned.
Congrats on feeling great after your bowel movement! Here's some info from the fiber study. It says less than 30% of the bound heavy metals are released due to fermentation, so there's still lots bound and excreted I've found it has helped greatly with lowering the feeling of toxicity. Just remember to take a mineral supplement apart from the high fiber bran. The wheat bran has become a part of my detox programme. Best of luck.
Water-soluble dietary fiber (WSDF), water-insoluble dietary fiber (WIDF) from wheat bran, and the carboxymethylated product of WIDF (CIDF), all having low contents of protein, ash, and phytic acid, were evaluated for their scavenging capacity for three heavy metals, Hg, Cd, and Pb. The results showed that WIDF had higher BCmax (maximum amount of bound heavy metal ions) and BCmin values (minimum concentration of heavy metal ions below which the ions cannot be bound by dietary fibers) than WSDF at two pH conditions (pH 2.0 and 7.0). Carboxymethylation of WIDF improved its binding capacity for heavy metals (increase in BCmax and decrease in BCmin). The pH value significantly affected the binding capacity for heavy metals; BCmax sharply increased and BCmin sharply decreased for each heavy metal ion for all of the dietary fibers when the pH was raised from 2.0 to 7.0. The binding capacity of dietary fibers for heavy metals was slightly affected by amino acids, calcium, iron, and zinc but significantly affected by copper. Colon fermentation released part of the heavy metal ions from dietary fibers. From the results it can be concluded that dietary fibers from wheat bran can effectively bind all three tested metal ions to prevent the body from being affected by their toxicity.
Conclusion. Water-soluble dietary fiber and waterinsoluble dietary fiber from wheat bran can bind large amounts of Hg, Cd, and Pb and decrease the concentration of these metal ions in the ambient solution to such an extent that they would not cause damage to the human body under pH conditions similar to those of the small intestine. This was not the case under pH conditions similar to those of the stomach. WIDF showed a higher binding capacity for heavy metal ions than WSDF, and the capacity can be further increased by carboxymethylation. However, WSDF had a higher affinity for all three metal ions than WIDF. Heavy metal scavenging capacities of dietary fibers were slightly affected by Ca, Fe, Zn, and casein hydrolysate and extensively affected by copper. Colon fermentation can release >30% of bound heavy metals from dietary fiber. It is not absolutely safe to use dietary fiber from wheat bran as a heavy metal scavenger.

Thanks Anonymous for the additional study info. I wasn't able to access anything more than the study abstract. However, the conclusion states that greater than 30% (>30%) of bound heavy metals are released by colon fermentation... Colon fermentation can release >30% of bound heavy metals from dietary fiber. Plus, it concludes with... It is not absolutely safe to use dietary fiber from wheat bran as a heavy metal scavenger. This is a very important point, especially for someone with a heavy body burden of mercury. Wheat bran may work well for some, but I'd still personally take Algin (or at least Slippery Elm, etc.) with my wheat bran to make sure the Algin absorbs what the wheat bran releases. I don't want even 30% of the mercury to be reabsorbed if I can help it.

Hi again Steve
Here's some more fiber info taken from another forum:
THE MALMSTRÖM HIGH FIBER PROTOCOL
Recently we had the pleasure to talking with two practicing dentists from Sweden who also do extensive research. Over the years Dr's. Christer and Ingegerd Malmström have developed very specific protocols for amalgam replacement based on their clinical and patient experiences. The protocol evolved from their study of those patients that show no improvement in their symptomatology after amalgam replacement. They have found that a number of individuals that did not get better had diverticula and also areas of the colon that were coated with hardened of impacted fecal matter that contained trapped particles of amalgam/mercury and other heavy metals. The discovery occurred when one such patient excreted large particles of amalgam/mercury after undergoing a barium enema x-ray study. As a consequence, those individuals that do not improve after amalgam replacement are requested to clean their intestinal tract through use of life style modification, dietary changes insuring adequate high fiber intake and even the use if fiber supplements such as those containing psyllium seed and guar. It was observed that most patient started to show important health improvements within two-three weeks of being on a high fiber diet.
As a result of their experiences with the non-improvement-after-replacement individuals, the Malmströms have developed the following protocol for working with patients that desire to have their amalgam filling replaced with non -mercury containing materials:
Three weeks before initial appointment all patient must go on a high fiber diet consisting primarily of fruits, vegetables and legumes (beans, peas etc.). This means eliminating most meat, fish and fowl from the diet.
In addition, the patient must stop smoking, stop the use of all drugs that are not absolutely necessary, stop birth control pills, remove and IUD devise (to eliminate a constant source of copper) eliminate coffee or caffeine and take no iron supplementation of any kind, including those vitamins that may have iron contained as a part of the enteric coating of the tablet.
Clinical observation of the efficacy of this pre-removal program has been that most people with various pre-existing health conditions show improvement in their health prior to their first appointment for amalgam removal. Again, based on clinical experiences, patients who are constipated are required to have the condition corrected before they can receive dental treatment. This is based on the need for the body to actively excrete toxins after dental treatment involving amalgam/mercury and to help eliminate the possibility of amalgam/mercury particulate being incorporated into diverticula or any impacted colon fecal matter.
At the patient's appointment for amalgam replacement, they are given activated charcoal tablets to take immediately prior to treatment. During actual operative procedures removing amalgam, rinsing and aspirating the work area and mouth every 20 seconds is recommended. Since coming on the market, the Malmströms utilize the Swedish aspiration device called Clean UpTM, which has eliminated the need for a special rinsing and aspirating every 20 seconds. The Malmströms have found that using this protocol, 80% of their patients do not experience any post-operative adverse reactions. Those individuals that experience any type of adverse reaction are requested to come back too the clinic. Based on their clinical history and vitamin/mineral supplementation program they are on, recommendations are made to increase selected nutrients until the reaction ameliorates. Always conservative in their approach, initial appointments are restricted to replacing only one or two small amalgam fillings and observing the patient's reaction. The patient is required to call in if there is any type of adverse reaction and the patient is also called the evening of their fist appointment to determine how the are doing.
Most mercury-free dentists have observed the phenomenon of those few individuals who do not obtain any significant improvement after they have eliminated their mercury implants and the constant source of dental mercury exposure. Traditionally, the emphasis relation to helping these individuals has been to increase nutrients that bind with mercury or counter its toxic effects. Now it appears that these individuals may be suffering from intestinal diverticula filled with fecal matter containing varying amounts or heavy metals that continue releasing their toxins.
The medical profession formerly treated diverticulosis by prescribing a bland, low fiber diet. Since scientific research has demonstrated that high fiber diets tend to cleanse and remove the impacted matter out of the diverticula, high fiber diets are now the recommended medical treatment for diverticulosis. (reference N Merck Manual) NOTE: Individuals going on high fiber diets must do so slowly, especially anyone who is constipated. For examples, if you are going to use bran cereal, start out with a ½ cup (about 9 gm of dietary fiber) and increase by increments until you have a satisfactory stool frequency an volume. If you are taking a fiber supplement the same philosophy applies, start out with a ½ teaspoon only. Whenever you increase roughage or bulk in your diet, you also must insure that you drink an adequate amount of fluid, six or eights glasses of water as a minimum. The major side effect of a high fiber diet will be increased flatus which tends to diminish as tolerance develops. In other words, don't be surprised if you have a lot of intestinal gas as a result of going on your high fiber diet, and don't let it deter you from staying on the fight fiber diet. Anyone experiencing significant pain or rectal bleeding as result of going on a fight fiber diet should immediately contact their physician. Those individuals who have been experiencing chronic constipation for a number or years should consult with their physician and proceed to a fight fiber diet only under your physicians direction.

Another idea for some might be flaxseed, the real ground stuff, not the oil caplets. I put 2 tablespoons on my oatmeal in the morning everyday. You can use more later in the day, if you need it. It works great on keeping kids regular as well, I bake it in there oatmeal raisin cookies. You can actually "clean out" if you need to by taking more per day. You have to start of and see how it goes. If it is not helping up the amount. Oh..by the way, go for organic flaxseed that is pesticide, chemical, everything free.
