How to stop a sneeze.
We just learned how to suppress a sneeze, sometimes important, especially following oral surgery. A good healthy sneeze can cause the blood clot to come out of a surgical site, which can prolong healing and cause possible pain needlessly.
Onc can simply place pressure on the hollow under the nose (the philtrum, as shown on the photo). Surgeries, especially an extraction on the upper jaw, can pose a particular problem during that first week of healing.
So when the urge appears, one can place pressure at this site until the urge disappears.
Also, instinctively the eyes shut when one sneezes, so one can force his eyes to stay open!

As you are aware, our practice addresses:
· Compatible materials
· Periodontal issues
· Cavitations
· The way the teeth fit together, which can affect TMJ, the skull & spine
· Dead teeth.
Dead teeth is an aspect you probably know something about but have not gotten "the rest of the story . . . "
In science, x-rays are one of the tools to determine if infection is or is not present. The following three cases show how the use of ozone gas is such a great help in more thorough healing in root canal therapy.
We go on record as not favoring root canals. We go to extremes to prevent our patients from needing root canals. But we give them a choice, we have discovered that using ozone in root canals can be a beneficial treatment.
There are choices involved in treatment of a dead tooth: 1) do nothing, 2) the mainstream treatment of root canal therapy and 3) our alternative form of root canal therapy utilizing ozone. In the next newsletter will be a fact sheet on 3), the alternative we favor.
We have been doing this procedure with the professionals at Bay Area Endodontics for a little over five years. We see at least five such cases a week. Most of these cases are re-treatments (root canals which are re-done) using ozone. Sometimes it entails removing metals and other materials that are a source of incompatibility.
The point of this communication is that there are ways to lighten the load of toxicity without removing the whole tooth. Using ozonation can satisfy many that have a concern for reducing their load of toxicity, yet maintain their bite.
Often those patients who are in debilitated condition with a degenerative disease elect to extract their root canal teeth. They put themselves into a different category due to their compromised immune system.
We make no more implied claims than this: informed choice gives one their options. WE would choose to be treated with ozone gas, as an adjunct, for endodontics has been shown to be immensely helpful in the past five plus years we have been using this methodology.
We know it is not a perfect way, but feel strongly it has created a huge help for our friends.

Saving a Root Canal Treated Tooth

...I know without doubt that this procedure had an important effect on my overall health...
I had been getting sick every few weeks for the past year, with cold/flu like symptoms. I was eating a very healthy diet (Dr. Fuhrman) and exercising but to no avail. It got to the point that I was afraid to travel anywhere for fear of becoming ill.
I had been going for months to medical doctors who did not know what was wrong with me but they were throwing around terms like "cancer" and "leukemia" and other words that a 49 year-old man does not want to hear as my white blood count continued to drop every month. They ordered a battery of tests and I actually started having thoughts that maybe my life would be ending a bit sooner than I expected.
I don't know why, but I decided to see Dr. Behm and get his advice. He did an x-ray and showed me a black mass directly below an old root canal which had been incompletely filled. Apparently this was an infected area in my jaw, which was caused by leakage of bacterial waste from my old root canal. I may be not describing it technically correct as I'm not a dentist, but I know what I saw on that x-ray. And it was not a pretty sight.
Ray explained that this jaw infection could cause a low-grade chronic infection in my body, which my immune system had been fighting constantly. Fixing it would theoretically remove a constant source of attack on my immune system.
Dr. Behm suggested that I immediately schedule an appointment with an endodontist to replace the old root canal, and when I arrived there the endodontist confirmed that this was an exceptionally bad root canal. He cleaned out the old root canal and I IMMEDIATELY felt like something toxic had been expelled from my body. I also could smell a putrid odor as he cleaned my canal. Was this the stuff that was filtering into my body everyday? Yuck!
Over the next few weeks we completed the process of removing, ozonating and replacing the root canal. I won't lie, it was not a piece of cake. When you dig into these types of things it's like trying to clean a rug that's full of dust: Some of that dust is going to scatter into your room and make you cough and sneeze.
In my case, the infection discharged constantly, caused me pain, and presented quite a challenge to both Dr. Behm and the endodontist. Apparently, these types of replacements are normally not dramatic or eventful. But my case was the exception (of course) and was not healing or reacting the way it should have.
The two of them had conferences on the best course of action to take for me. They actually developed a NEW protocol for my case. Dr. Behm encourages his patients to understand and take responsibility for their own dental health, so I was constantly asking questions and better educating myself on my dental condition. Behm was extremely patient and explained everything to me. And my endodontist was also a gem, I couldn't have asked for a better man to do a root canal on me. I called BOTH these guys at all hours of the day and night, and they got me through it.
Dr. Behm does not recommend antibiotics for his patients. However as part of this new protocol that Behm and the endodontist created for handling my problem, the endodontist suggested strongly I take the antibiotics. Since I was fully educated, I was able to make my own decision and decided it was best for me to take them. It's actually the first time in my life I've taken antibiotics, but in this case it was completely correct for me to do so. Behm never made me wrong for it. He allowed me to make the decision for myself and respected my right to do so. That is a sign of a great practitioner.
So what have been the results? It's been over 3 months since completing the procedure and I don't think I've been sick once. Maybe I get little flare-ups now and then but they don't materialize into anything. I can't say this procedure is the only reason my health has improved, because I also took other actions to improve my emotional/ spiritual health as well as adding some vitamins and other supplements to my diet.
But I know without doubt that this procedure had an important effect on my overall health. I can now travel without fear. I can exercise fully without the dread that my body will get sick from being so exhausted (which used to happen all the time). I actually can compete in grueling, cardiovascular sporting events (I am a competitive fencer) that last 10 hours and leave me aching and sore for days.
But guess what? I don't get sick at all after these events! Nobody quite understands how this is even possible given my previous state of health. I have removed a PROVEN source of toxicity to my body, which was confirmed by two specialists and X-Rays. This was absolutely not a placebo reaction because I've confirmed with medical doctors that the bacteria in a person's teeth can cause heart attacks.
So I really have no doubt that what Behm recommended definitely turned around my health, and perhaps even saved my life.

There are two more cases to show you in the next newsletter, but first, here is a portion of an article from the Consumer Health Organization of Canada, written by Frank Jerome, DDS entitled Metal Free Dentistry: Crowns, Root Canals and Extractions. He points out how devestating a root canal can be to your body:
ROOT CANALS Root canals are the most toxic & damaging procedures dentists can do. You have two options: a root canal or an extraction. Dentists usually fill root canals with gutta percha. Gutta percha shrinks and leaves gaps and the tooth can never be sterile. There is no such thing as a sterile root canal.
During a root canal, the main canal is filled and possibly some of the small side canals, but the other smaller canal-like structures in teeth called dentinal tubules are too tiny to be filled during treatment and these tubules become home to bacteria instead. Since there are millions of these tubules there is room for enough bacteria to challenge the immune system.
The waste products from these nasty germs include some very toxic substances called thio-ethers, and your body has to deal with these toxins 24 hours a day. They contaminate the bone around the tooth and they are picked up by the immune system and carried to the liver for detoxification. Unfortunately, the liver can be seriously damaged by them.
Weston Price conducted research on root canals and wrote two books about how toxic they can be. So you have to make up your mind what is more important to you.
I believe no tooth is worth destroying my immune system.
