Help I have a dilemma.

I am due to get amalgams removed on the 8th and the 9th April, great but I also have an 11.5 mile Fell running race on the 11th April! Does anyone think this will be a bad idea and if so why? I had a 15 mile fell race last Sunday and my immune system dipped for a few days after, so I have made my mind up that it would be bad to have amalgam removal straight after a race.

But what about before with a day in between? I don't know?

Keep one thing in mind. Don't take vitamin c within 24 hours before dental work, as it may make novacaine much less effective. Take plenty of vitamin c after. Amalgam removal two days in a row? That is probably not a good idea. In fact if there are many amalgams, it might be a good idea to have half done, then wait at least a month to get the other half done. I had 25 amalgams replaced, but that was over the course of a year.

I would not have a race before or after amalgam removal. It takes your body sometime to recover and your body will be taking a bit of a pounding from the amalgam removal. I would not prepare for amalgam removal by a recent race, which takes a lot out of you. you need to prepare yourself for the removal with good food, supplements and rest in my opinion.

I can only repeat what JK has said, not to take vitamin C for 24 hours before dental work. It apparently can interfere with getting numb. Even 48 hours has been suggested.

I'm also wondering about other antioxidants too. I seem to recall selenium did similar to me, but it may have been coincidence.

I am travelling to the UK mainland from the Isle of Man - that is why I am having removal done over two days on two separate visits. I am really hard up money wise and I love Fell running and thought that I could make the most of being in England by doing one of the classic fell races. I thought a 48 hours recovery time before the race might have been enough time for the anaesthetic to clear from my system.

I understand about not taking Vit C before removal but should you refrain from eating food containing Vit C? I don't take supplements anymore because of the cost - I get my vitamins from raw organic food. Some foods are really high in Vit C.

The amount of vitamin c in foods is very small compared to what many here are taking, and what is optimum for detoxification. Even if one loads up on many high vitamin c foods, it is dountfull they will get more than 100 mg a day of vitamin c. Many here are taking between 2 and 10 grams a day of vitamin c, with is 20-100 times what you could probably get from food. Vitamin c and B vitamins are cheap. In the US for ecample, one could probably get a hundred one gram vitamin C tablets for under $8, and a hundred B50 tablets for under $5. While prices might be somewhat higher in the UK or elsewhere, these supplements are inexpensive and definitely worth taking. Some other supplements are expensive though. Before dental work you shouldn't load up on high vitamin c foods like citrus fruits, or broccoli. How many amalgams do you have?

Hi Weety,

I'm not sure how long it takes aneasethic to clear from the system. However, it is the removal of amalgams that puts stress on the entire system by increased exposure to mercury vapor. Even the best protection will not completely prevent exposure to mercury. It will help and reduce it, but not eliminate it.

Going out for a run a couple of days afterwards may not be wise. It is of course up to you. You can only go on how you feel I guess. This is a big change for your body too - going from having amalgams to having NONE. It is a real shock. The blood apparently clears of mercury in the first few months post amalgam removal (If I recall correctly) because it's no longer getting the daily intake of mercury - but then later the stored mercury begins to leak back out into the system. Which can happen anytime from 6 months onwards post amalgam removal.

It does indeed cause much change in the body and sometimes the change is not easy to go through because the body has been storing mercury for so long, has been poisoned for so long, that the healing process from this condition can be difficult/challenging to say the least. But it is also rewarding once you get enough of this toxin out of your system.

I suggest Andrew Cutler's protocol for mercury detox.

I'd also advise against. The whole process of amalgam removal is hard on the body. If you do choose to run and you feel sick, exhausted or "just not up to it" in the process, please listen to your body. If you rest now you will be healthy to run another day.

By the way, I loaded up on many grams of vitamin C on the day of amalgam removal, in order to help protect my body from additional mercury toxicity. It didn't make the anaesthetic any less effective.

Not exactly. The blood level of mercury rises substantially by the removal, but in around a month it is back to the pre removal amount, then it drops from there. It won't drop that low though until most the stored mercury in the body is removed by many rounds of chelation. Taking large doses of vitamin c after the dental work will help clear the novacaine from the body. I often felt nausious after dental work. I don't know if it was from the novacaine, or the mercury exposure. It was just for around 2 days. Taking 5 grams of vitamin c a day for a few days helps(space it out throughout the day. You could try taking more vitamin c than that, but if you take too much it will give you diahrea). Taking B vitamins is also important for detoxification. Get a bottle of B50 tablets. breat them in half and take it 3 or 4 times a day.

If you can register for the run at the last minute, then see how you feel on the day of the run and make your decision to run or not then. It also depends on how many amalgams are replaced. If there are 6 or less it might not be so bad. If there are way over 8 of them, then you might not feel so well for many days after replacement.

I have got 13 amalgams to be removed.

On the 8th April I will be getting one quadrant removed and then after an overnight stay I will be getting another quadrant done. The remaining two will be done on a separate two day visit on the 26th & 27th April. The fell race I want to do is on the 11th April in the Lake District.

Now here’s my thinking, I have noticed that after I have been in a run a feel amazing! I can feel tired and sluggish - force myself to go for a run and then I feel fantastic for the rest of the day.

Maybe going for a run post-amalgam removal is good as it will;
a) Raise body temperature (sweat)
b) Increase immune function
c) Get the blood moving (lowers pressure?)
d) Makes you feel happy
e) Oxygenate cells

It could be the best thing to do!! It might be better than sitting on my backside letting the mercury settle! Instead I would be giving my body a kick up the a**e. I am sure being as active as possible with healthy nutrition is the key to good health at any stage of your life. Getting amalgams removed isn't an excuse to feel sorry for yourself and do nothing but relax and pop supplements.

My protocol is going to be amalgams out as safe as possible. Then family/work/running/mountain biking/internet/sleep oh and eat as much plant based food as possible with animal fats. Whey protein powder for increased glutathione production. There is no way on earth I will be taking any DMSA or DPMS chemical type chelators. 100% natural all the way for me - Klinghardt style. I have read Cutlers book and found it very hard to soak in (brain fog). So hard in fact I have read sections several times. I just can't afford all the supplements he suggests, I understand the difference between a 'good' supplement and 'bad' one. ie 'viridian' is good and 'holland and barratts' is bad! I believe nature is the best supplement!

I am suffering from ‘electrosensitivity’ (mobile phones/wi-fi) I do feel fatigued, a lot! But I have been lucky to find out how good running makes me feel! And I fully intend in using it as often as possible to help me chelate this metal out my system! What do you think! I appreciate your comments!

Should I run an 11 mile fell race TWO days after my first batch of amalgam removals?

ps camu camu powder is good for vit c

If it works for you? Then it maybe fine. Some people are so ill with mercury toxicity that they are near bedridden (or bedridden). Tremendous muscle weakness can be a symptom of mercury toxicity, plus extreme fatigue/exhaustion, and rest may not be a luxury, but a necessity and many times, one may have little choice in the matter. I think you'd be surprised at the efforts most people try to make with this condition and may not be as able to comply physically as others might. I wouldn't call that an excuse to do "nothing" or "feeling sorry for oneself".

Exercise is healthy - but should be done according to a person's tolerance and capability. Overdoing things is not the answer, not is it beneficial. Rest is not to be scoffed at either. It can be needed for recovery/recuperation - or a necessity for those who maybe in a severe enough condition. Hal Huggins admitted that bad diet and overdoing things are the two common problems that have interferred with healing from this condition.

If you can follow this protocol, and it works well for you, that's fine. But I'd be careful setting too many high demands upon a mercury toxic system. This depends also upon how poisoned you are, where the mercury is and what it's doing and how you will feel post amalgam removal.

The natural way of mercury removal does not automatically = safe. When dealing with a neurotoxin, you must be careful regardless of how healthy the substance you are using is. A natural product can just as easily cause redistribution and backfire of mercury than the wrong use of a chelating agent. I'd proceed carefully in any case. Caution is advised when detoxing this stuff.

I still recommend Cutler's protocol as an effective, well thought out, safe method of removing/moving mercury. I tried many other means and was often hurt and afflicted badly from natural products that mobilised the mercury. Sometimes for a long time after. This included using chelating agents incorrecty also. It is very much about how strong a grip the product has on mercury and how safe and effective the protocol itself is in the way in which it moves/removes the mercury.

Exercise/sweating etc can certainly move mercury and may help precipitate the movement/removal of a certain amount of toxins/metals via the pores of the skin. But also the oxygenation of the blood, circulation etc is beneficial. Heat can cause mercury to rise. I used to be covered in a mercury rash after my body heated up. From head to toe. Though I am quite sure a previous DMPS IV had been one of the reasons this occured. It shunted a lot of stored mercury into my system and made me INCREDIBLY sick. So from then on, everytime I exercised, had a hot bath, etc, anything that caused my body to heat up? It would expel metals through the skin and I'd come up with a hot, red and itchy rash which often lasted over an hour or more following.

If you find running makes you feel better, that maybe ok for you. Others may not. Exercise mobilises mercury and may also need to be done in moderation. Depending upon the person and how it affects them.

Rebounding/walking are beneficial and maybe easier for those who find more strenuous activitiy too difficult.

Only you can answer the last question. I have already given my thoughts earlier on this. Again, rest should not be shunned and maybe a necessary recovery time following amalgam removal. What you decide to do in the end is of course your decision.

I am just so skint I want to be told that it’s alright to do this race while I am in the UK. Guess I will have to see how I feel at the time! I know I am mercury toxic but I am not as bad as some people on this forum. It's 2.25 am I've got work at 8am - guess I'm in for another day of tiredness!!!

I will know if I am better when I stop being 'electrosensitive'. I mean, I am not going to go through some horrendous chelating process if after my amalgams are removed the 'antenna effect' is stopped. Listen to the top 2 about mercury and EMR!

Just something to consider...I did the same thing for 2 1/2 years after having my amalgams removed, just ate very very healthy, organic veggies, lots of high quality butter, high quality animal products, no synthetic supplements...and exercising and using a sauna often.

I finally realized that I was being too stubborn and starting supplementing with certain minerals and noticed an improvement...then I finally tried using ALA via the cutler protocol and starting making more progress than ever before. I really feel that if I would have just not been so stubborn on doing it naturally and started supplementing with certain things and chelating with ALA/DMSA 6 months after removal I would be 100% better by now...but I didn't want to before because Andy Cutler said it was necessary to take certain supplements while chelating and I wanted to do it naturally, but now I see and can feel that the cutler protocol is the way to go and I wish I would have started it years earlier.

You talk about being tired, then talk about an 11 mile run! Some of us on a good day might be able to walk slowly 3 or 4 miles at most, and on a bad day, we have trouble getting up to go to the bathroom. There are a few here who can't even walk a block or two on their best days.

You can chelate with ALA alone, although people seem to progress faster and have less severe side effects using DMSA and ALA together. It is your choice. DMSA can be expensive, while ALA is quite inexpensive.

Don't think that Holland & Barrett supplements are low quality just because they are priced much lower than other brands. Holland & Barrett is part of the US company NBTY, which makes Nature's Bounty and other brands of vitamins. They also own Puritan's Pride, a large mail order/internet vitamin seller, as well as Vitamin World. They are one of the largest(or perhaps the largest?) vitamin maker in the US. They also own the premium priced brand Solgar. They bought Holland &Barrett a number of years ago.

You're welcome Weety.

The problem with overdoing things when your body requires time to recuperate is the risk of crashing completely. Overdoing things, can very quickly lead to doing nothing at all if your body demands rest and has been ignored. I have made that mistake many times.

The process of amalgam removal is no small feat and many experience the sense of feeling very tired or even quite knocked out after it. It's not bad to have plans, but the stress to meet certain demands if one feels worse than anticipated may simply add an unnecessary load of disappointment and frustration.

Listen to your body and just take each day as it comes. Your health is very important. Be positive for sure, but not unrealistic.

I understand the difficulty of finance! I sympathise with you.

I frequently get electric shocks when I get out of my car and shut the door. I get zapped easy. I don't know if this is a symptom?

I haven't listened to the audios as yet. Will have a listen later.

The process of chelating/detoxing mercury can be horrendous if it is not done the right way. Cutler's method made it bearable/tolerable and it was effective. It took me a few years to finally start chelating properly. Before that, it was all about experimentation with natural methods, which seeked to mostly mobilise the mercury all over the place, cause me much agony in the process, with little improvement at the end of it to show for it.

I'd be far more wary of mercury being mobilised by random protocols and products, than I would with DMSA itself. Many natural products do not have a tight enough grip on the mercury to remove it properly and simply stir it up. The body must then do it's best to deal with the aftermarth. Yes, some metals may come out in the process, but at what cost? DMSA does have a tight grip on mercury, but it still must be used correctly or it too poses the danger of redistribution/back fire.

However, there is no reason why anybody should feel pressured to use DMSA or DMPS regardless. It is apparently not essential. But it is a big help. What IS essential is that a proper organ/brain chelating agent is used a few months post amalgam removal and from then on to clear the organs and brain of mercury. Alpha lipoic acid (antioxidant) is, according to Cutler, the one to use.

It can be used alone, or with DMSA. And should be easily gotten hold of, in a health food shop, online or in a pharmacy. However, it must not be used until 3 months or more post amalgam removal (after blood levels of mercury have been reduced). (either naturally waiting it out or with DMSA's help). Again, the way in which ALA is used is the key to safety and effectiveness.

Thanks guys

I guess I'll decide on chelating after I have got the amalgams removed. I have to get a loan to pay for the treatment! I am seeing Dr John Roberts (Huddersfield) and I think he is going to use 'Fugi 9' as a replacement.

My energy levels can be very high, I gave up smoking three years ago and since then I have been regularly mountain biking and for the past year running. The only reason I am getting my amalgams removed is to cure my electro sensitivity, which is horrible. When I am near a mobile phone mast or wi-fi I get burning sensations on my scalp, tinnitus, and vertigo. Plus the mercury effects on my short term memory, irritable and its affecting my sleep patterns. I go to bed really late and get up late feeling tired! That’s one of my main problems - lack of sleep, and with all the exercise I end up knackered by Friday. I always need a cat nap during the day.

My eyes are always bloodshot, my hair is thinning, I feel blunt, can't remember stuff, my hearing is deteriorating so much so that I need hearing aids in both ears - I had a hearing test last week for my tinnitus and the guy said that I need hearing aids for mid frequencies!!

I struggle writing my hand cramps, my comprehension and spelling is becoming awful, when I read something I have to read things several times for the information to soak in if at all.

Just writing this text is a struggle, I want to launch a full blown campaign against my local telephone company but I just don't feel I have the mental capcity to do it the way I am until I get the amalgams removed.

Please read this very recent article on mercury fillings and electromagnetic radiation, it’s only short! click here!

Do you have any problems with your sense of smell or taste? If so, then you probably aren't getting enough zinc. Tinnitus is often caused by a magnesium deficiency, and zinc also helps relieves tinnitus. A large percentage of those living in the US and the UK are deficient in magnesium. Calcium and/or magnesium deficiency often contribute to insomnia. Muscle cramping points to a magnesium deficiency. Are you sensitive to perfumes?

Cigarette smoke is full of arsenic and cadmium, so in addition to mercury, you might still have plenty of those in your body, and perhaps lead as well. DMSA is good for chelating all of those metals. ALA is not so good at chelating lead. I don't know how effective it is at chelating other metals.

Maybe I do have quite an acute sense of smell! I am hyper-sensitive to Garlic! The smell of garlic makes me wretch, it’s the most disgusting repulsive smell on earth!

I do find perfumes very overpowering! I also hate the smell of car/van exhausts!

It's very interesting that you mention essential minerals deficiency, because it has been suggested that 'electrosensitive' people suffer from 'electrolytes being out of balance’ cell membrane leakage of calcium ions - Dr Andrew Goldsworthy is leading the research into this field here is a fairly recent article one of many found on Google read!

I did a hair test last summer and found that I am deficient in Magnesium, Zinc and Selenium!! To remedy this I am eating raw nuts every day! And I am drinking a naturally flavored electrolyte solution with my natural unflavored whey powder.

I have only been consuming the electrolyte/whey powder for the last three weeks but I have noticed an improvement in my health already! I have stopped having the 'hypoglycemia' type attacks. Plus my tinnitus has started to subside a bit, I think/hope!

My taste, how would I know if I had a problem?

JK98, as far as I know, DMSA is not an effective chelator of arsenic or cadmium. Lead and mercury yes. I was severely poisoned by smoking a packet of cigarettes on my birthday a few years back and no amount of DMSA helped me. Yet DMSA helped me when I was poisoned by mercury after antifungal use. But sadly it did nothing for the aftermarth of the cigarette intake. Believe me, I tried a few times.

I "think" that ALA can chelate arsenic and mercury. Not sure about other metals.

Weety, I was very chemically sensitive with candida and mercury both. Treating candida reduced that substantially. I stopped getting sick after cleaning the house once I treated candida. I was able to tolerate polishing and cleaning again. Of course the reason why I got candida was the mercury, but again treating candida was necessary for me to gain any control of symptoms and help my body cope better with the mercury. I still had amalgams at that time too.

Do you consume enough animal protein? Meat and eggs are important in mercury toxic people according to Hal Huggins, plus butter too (and animal fats overall).

Butter on bread and toast and I eat eggs whenever I fancy them, I also love cheese!

This might sound irrelevant but I have been suffering from a fungus infection on my right big toenail for years - It's disgusting; half of the nail is black. I suffered from a mild ringworm infection on my thigh two years ago! Thinking back 18 years ago just after I had my first amalgam fillings whilst in the army, I used to suffer from awful bloating! Are these signs of yeast overgrowth?

I don't think I have Candida at the moment, how would I know apart from the fungus in my toenail?

Bread/toast contain yeast/gluten/wheat, which all can cause very big problems in those with candida/mercury. In fact, when I used to consume those, I was extremely ill. I gave them and sugar up and after 3 weeks of detox/withdrawal, I made big improvements.

Fungus infections are also a sign of the fungus within. That and bloating are signs of yeast overgrowth yes. That and more! You can add cramps, depression/anxiety, fatigue, insomnia/oversleeping, itching (particularly in certain private areas), coated tongue etc. There are plenty more to add to the list. Candida causes it's own suffering in mercury toxic individuals that can add to, or even surpass the symptoms of mercury.

How do you know you don't have candida at the moment? If you have amalgam toxicity or anything else that challenges/lowers immunity, it is highly likely you will have candida. The body is unable to keep a healthy balance of yeast when it's been unbalanced by mercury and/or other toxins/chemicals/illnesses.

Tests for candida are not usually very reliable. The best test is to simply give up the sugars/gluten/high carbs/yeast/dairy (apart from butter which is the only true safe dairy for candida) foods and go from there and see if things improve. It may take a few weeks. And you may even feel worse temporarily as yeast start to die off.

You can google candida if you want to know more about the symptoms. There are plenty of articles that have them listed. You can also do a symptom check on yourself in doing so.

If you do have candida and it's highly possible, consuming the breads/toast and cheese etc will be causing big problems.

The safe foods for candida are meats (including chicken), eggs, low carbohydrate vegetables, sugar free acidophilus yoghurt (might be ok, but it cantains lactose in the form of galactose, which is still a form of sugar), raw nuts maybe ok (exclude peanuts). Herbal tea is good. Black tea maybe ok, but still has some caffeine. Coffee should be excluded! That has caused me to relapse completely.

Outside of this it becomes a bit risky. Candida can quite happily feed off the sugars in fruit, grain, potatoes/corn/peas/beans etc, milk/cream etc. Cheese is an issue also.

Nuts are a good source of magnesium.Raw sunflower seeds are cheap and have plenty of magnesium. sunflower seeds also have plenty of vitamin E, phosphorus, selenium, and manganese.

http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/nut-and-seed-products/3076/2

Sunflower seeds have higher levels vitamins and minerals than peanuts.

http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/nut-and-seed-products/3125/2

Here unshelled sunflower seeds are even less expensive than peanuts, but the other nuts like almonds or cashews cost at least twice as much as peanuts.

Magnesium supplements are cheap. I suggest you use magnesium citrate or magnesium ascorbate(magnesium with vitamin c). They typically come in a tablet with 200 mg or 250 mg of magnesium. If you take one of these a day plus eat magnesium rich foods, you should get plenty of magnesium.

Molybdenum supplements help with perfume sensitivity.

You might also benefit from an iodine supplement, especially if you have below normal body temperature.

Citrate powder worked for me, and Taurate is a good too IMO. If people want foods then raw chocolate with the Cacao (Dark I meant) at around 80% or so is very rich in Magnesium, I would look to that as well for Magnesium. I still need to get onto that Molybdenum, you keep reminding me everyday to get that in my diet.

Just read this post, i was intersted by the link. and wondered how weety got on?

I have had two quadrants done with one week in between and i am really not feeling good. I have been on the couch since tuesday and can just about manage the trips to the loo.

Even without the removal i couldn't imagine running a race to the bottom of the road let alone a few miles cross country. How severe were your symptoms weety? and what were you doing to make it possible to keep going so strongly. I try to fight the fatigue but it always hits me back twice as hard afterwards.

fatigue revenge is what i call it.

hope the removal went well and your all clean and clear.

i forgot something.

i read that although there is an initial rise in blood mercury levels within 10 mins of the removal starting, this will remain steady until around 48 hrs after removal when the blood level goes much higher.
It is due, apparently, not to the removal but to the fact that the body is not having the same level of mercury leaking in as before the removal. so the stored mercury starts to seep out of its storage spots into the blood.

here is the address of the article. makes sense to me as i have had an increase in symptoms 48 hours after removal each time.
has anyone else heard of this?
