I think that perhaps 90% of fillings placed are not necessary. The method used to determine whether a filling is "necessary" errs way....way....way toward the "yes".

They stick the enamel with a stainless steel poker. If it sticks a little indicating that the enamel is a little "soft", they drill away enormous amounts of perfectly good and safe enamel and install dangerous substances. It amazes me that this has gone on so long.

I'm all for dentists in the right situations. They can serve a very important function, however, when you say that the world would be a better place without dentists; because I have found that perhaps 40% of all chronic disease is caused by dental amalgam, I think you're absolutely right. The world actually would be better without them, unless they were honest and used only biological methods.
