These corporate media backflips do not occur because someone grew a conscience. They occur because secondary news sources expose the truth and therefore have (rightfully) gained the trust of the public. This puts tremendous pressure on corporate media because corporate media knows this: If they lose your faith, they have no influence on you, and influencing you is the only reason they exist. Therefore, corporate media is literally forced to backflip their (biased, spun, contrived) position to attempt to maintain some degree of credibility in the public's eye.
