Hi Abishag, (((( Smiles )))
Correct!
The Pharisees were accusing Jesus and his disciples of transgressing the law because they didn't wash their hands before they ate. Also, the Jews had a tradition requiring the hands should be ceremonially washed after each contact with a Gentile.
They chided Jesus and his disciples.. He replied about what comes out of the mouth and in Verse 15: Peter said declare the parable this is a parable, Jesus explained the parabel and his explanation was..
Verse 19, 20 what comes out of the heart that these were the things that defiled a man but to eat with unclean hands defileth not a man.
The Jewish leaders where upset about a custom while Jesus was more concerned about what was in their hearts. It had nothing to do with the diet it had to do with ceremonial washing of the hands versus what was in their hearts.. One defiled the other did not.
To know what was in their hearts and as Jesus new is in verses 19. Verses the traditions as ..
Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?
One defiled, the other did not. The Gentiles have been made "clean". Will ponder on the other one later until then.. You can expand on the evil thoughts coming out of their hearts.. Murder'est ones.. He saw into that. (((( Smiles )))) Have a blessed weekend too my friend!
