We are presented with a temptation with this term. It's the same with the term 'science'. We can allow the world to redefine it, or we can stick to the true meaning.
Real philosophy can only point us to the truth, just like real science. Counterfeit science and philosophy are to be avoided.
All men are either born with or acquire immediately after birth the fundamentals of both real science and real philosophy. No small child takes seriously the proposal that a thing can both exist and not exist for example. They aren't yet stupid enough; their philosophy is too sound.
Real philosophy is beautiful, just as one would expect. Our aversion to the false should not be allowed to interfere with embracing the true.
Lest anyone doubt the beauty of real philosophy, here's a sample
"Anyone who denies the law of non-contradiction should be beaten and burned until he admits that to be beaten is not the same as not to be beaten, and to be burned is not the same as not to be burned." (Avicenna, Medieval Philosopher)
The basics of real philosophy aren't something we need to study much, either, for we already know. He who desires more than the basics I would direct to the book of Proverbs.
