Hello All,

After a couple of months of research (mostly on this great site) I have decided to have my amalgams removed. I have researched my health issues for a few years with varying degrees of success.

I've had my various health issues for many years, in retrospect I feel quite a slow learner, but I guess my trust in the medical profession and my brain fog hasn't helped.

I have narrowed my choice of dentist down to John Ahearne (Poole) and John Roberts (Huddesfield), has anybody got any experience of these dentists or any dentists in the midlands area?

I'll update you on my experience.

Thanks to you all for sharing your knowledge and experience, I've learnt so much.

Kind Regards,

Hey there.

I have not used any of these dentists but i know a little about them from my dentist John Rees(amazing they're all called John!)

John Roberts and John Rees know each other pretty well and he consulted Mr Roberts with my dental issues. Mainly my allergies. I know Mr Roberts is quite expensive and that as a replacement he does not use methacrylate as it causes a lot of issues itself in people, myself included. Mr Roberts uses Admira which he's said he's had great results with. So if you go with Mr Roberts this will be his first choice of dental material. He is a very empathetic dentist apparently who himself suffered from mercury poisoning.

Mr Ahearne i've heard is also a very very good dentist who will test you for suitable replacements. His prices are fantastic. If i lived closer to that area i'd be there for sure but simply the financial cost of getting there puts me off. I think that dentist is family run too.

..and finally you can always go and see my dentist John Rees if you're in the midlands area. What i like about John is that he genuinely wants to help me get sorted. He will even buy in the product you want him to use on you if you pay him for the materials (He has my Admira waiting for me) i just got to get the funds to have it put in.

Good luck and i hope this helps.

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for taking the time to reply, you can feel very alone with all this and it really helps to discuss options with someone.

My orignal shortlist did include John Rees along with the two other Johns and Yogi Savania (Swadlincote) and Hesham El-Essaway (Harley St).

I would prefer to see John Rees due to location. I did receive a really friendly & helpful letter from him where he answered many of my questions, but not all. For example, I don't know if he uses a galvanometer to determine the order of amalgam removal (this would be important for me), I'm not sure if he carries out biocompatibility testing and he didn't give me an indication of prices. Do you know the answers to any of the above questions from your experience.

I received an information pack from John Ahearne and it was reassuringly comprehensive. The intial examination & consultation is 90 minutes long and £180. The information I received from John Roberts was really quite brief, I know the initial consultation is £150.

Wishing you well with your Admira fillings and thanks again for your reply.

Nigel.

Hello,

I saw John Roberts last week and have my first filling replaced later today...gulp...he seemed a nice enough chap and price wise i did not think all that bad. around 100-120 quid a filling (their estimate)

I am getting 5 mercury fillings replaced over 4 appointments due to me being really very ill at the moment - and having another two new fillings done at the same time

He also wants to fix my bite as he thinks that may play a role in some of my symptoms - i cannot bite properly and have to move my jaw about 'trying' to find a bite that works due to shabby dentistry in the past.

I was more interested in what he offered in way of detox protocol as getting the fillings done is only the start of the battle - i have yet to get his email through telling me of this but will post when i hear more.

He did talk about OSR so maybe he uses that?

Anyway best go prepare for trip to huddersfield!

Hi Nigel

I am not sure whether John uses a Galvometer or not so i cannot tell you for sure. His prices are expensive but he charges by the hour not by the number of fillings. So if you have large fillings it works out not so bad also. I think its £250 per hour. I am pretty sure he does biocompatibility testing but admits he knows someone who is far better at testing for it and will refer you to him. I think it's a place in Derbyshire. As for consultations i am not sure what John charges. I don't recall it being too expensive though as i'd remember!

If there is one thing i can urge you to do is that no matter what dentist you go to. I strongly suggest you dont have any product by 3M put in your mouth. They are all highly toxic and have given so many people including myself very serious reactions. Their range includes the Filtek brand which is very common amongst dentists who use white fillings.

Regards
Stuart

Hi EwokPD,

Thanks for adding to the thread. I'm pleased that John Roberts is looking into other elements of health (bite and detoxification) and taking a more holistic view, that's encouraging. His costs do look reasonable in the scheme of things.

I hope your trip was sucessfull and you are ok today?

Hey Stuart,

Thanks for the info on John Rees's costs, I do have quite a number of large fillings, but I also have quite a number of small ones (perhaps 15-16 in total - pretty sad really). I'll take note of your advice on the replacement filling type, I know very little about that subject, but it is so fundamental.
Really confused at the moment, but you guys are helping me build up a picture of the way forward for me.

Regards,
Nigel.

I don't think this clinic is in your area, but someone at curezone spoke very highly of Dr. Graeme Munro-Hall. The Munro-Halls have a new book out on Toxic Dentistry.
