Is it logical to stop taking dmsa or maybe to take ALA instead because of weakness muscles or maybe to take them together?

Did the muscle weakness start when you started DMSA, or did you have it before?

Some supplements you should take to help relieve muscle weakness are creatine, carnitine, vitamin B12,other B vitamins, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc and vitamin D. If you diet is not high in sodium then you should increase your sodium intake, as many do better on a higher sodium intake(don't overdo it though). Also make sure to get enough potassium in your diet. fuits, vegetables, and milk and yogurt are high in potassium.

If your muscle weakness is too great, then stop the chelation round. Adding ALA will give much more side effects than DMSA alone. What dosage of DMSA are you taking? Perhaps you should consider doing the next round at a lower dosage?

Hello,

I took 12.5 mg of dmsa. Is it logical to do the round with 6 mg?
It also will take much more time..I'm not sure if the muscle weakness started just after the dmsa but for sure the rounds increase them.

what kinds of nutrition contain sodium? Why do sodium and posatium help for that problem?

I take vit. B,magnesium, lechitin (as nutrition) and zinq from time to time. I'm doubt about the vit. D because I know that sometimes people with the heavy metals problems also develops lyme and vit. D is controversial for lyme disease.

I remember my symptoms increasing during the round and sometimes becoming quite intolerable. I remember tired and aching would increase and yes, weakness. I would get other symptoms also. But I knew why I was getting them, and I wasn't working, so I put up with as much as I was able. Anything to reduce mercury. Usually whatever problem you have will often increase as you try and remove mercury.

It is not a silly idea to reduce the dose to 6 mg if you can do this. I've heard others having to do the same thing. But it does get frustrating to split capsules.

I know that the action/stress of chelation does drain the body more of vitamins/minerals, which is why Andy Cutler recommends a supplement protocol, with vitamin C, B complex in particular being taken up to 3-4 times daily, because they are used up alot faster. No doubt the sodium and potassium balance would be affected also. Antioxidants and essential fatty acids really need to be ramped up and taken regularly, as mercury uses them up alot more than normal. The body needs this also to help repair the damage/deficiencies mercury is causing, plus to help it cope better with the mercury itself.

In hindsight, I think if I had followed Cutler's supplement directions a bit more and kept my doses lower and my rounds a bit shorter, I may have had an easier time of it than I did.

Vitamin D is necessary for proper calcium utilization. Many people with CFS/fibromyalgia do better on a somewhat higher sodium intake(don't overdo it though). Many women are iron deficient. Musles contain myoglobin which contains iron. Iron is also needed for making hemoglobin. Iron bisglycinate is a well absorbed form that doesn't cause digestive side effects. Take it with vitamin c for better absobtion.

I was eating many natural foods and sudenly realized that my sodium intake was under 500 mg a day. It should be 2,000-3,000 mg a day. I need to remember to add salt to my food. Plenty of odium is in all processed foods, but not much is in in most natural foods.

JK98, that corresponds with what has happened to me. Since I started consuming natural foods and no longer consuming processed/packaged food, I noticed my desire for salt increased. So I started salting my food more.

However, whenever I ever cheated on my diet and started consuming typical packaged foods, my interest in salt disappeared and I had no more desire to salt my food as much.

As soon as I return to the good diet with natural foods, and begin the slow road to recovering from the cheat, my desire for salt increases again, as does a healthier appetite!

Hi, Why did you write to stop the chelation after muscles weakness and not to increase the supplements or having an vit/minerals infusion for example? What about taking small dosage of ALA instead of DMSA because of the muscle weakness?

Did you or someone heard about people with mercury problem that long fasts (with juice or water) help them to recover?

Thanks a lot for your advices!!

Hi desperatewoman,

I wasn't sure if you were talking to me or JK? I personally did not say to stop chelation or to not increase supplements. I simply suggested lowering the dose of the chelation to see if it makes things a bit easier.

You can certainly increase particular supplements (and take them more often), as this can help the body's need for more of these vitamins/minerals as it uses them up during stress/chelation. IV vitamins/minerals maybe helpful too, if you can afford that.

If the DMSA seems to be the main cause of the muscle weakness and you know this from trying it alone (without ALA), then yes, you may find using ALA alone at small doses may suit you better. You can always try these things and see how they go (seperately and together). Often people use DMSA with ALA because they find DMSA continues to be helpful to them as far as side effects are concerned. However, if you do not find DMSA helpful, but rather causes problems, then you can just use ALA alone.

As long as you have had no recent mercury exposure or amalgam removal (within the last 3 months), then you can use ALA. But it should not be used too early on when blood levels of mercury maybe still high - which is the first 3 months after amalgam removal and/or other recent exposure to mercury.

No, fasting is not recommended for mercury poisoning. It is actually advised against. On the contrary, it is advised that a person, particularly in this condition, requires more protein (particularly in eggs and meat) and enough good fats from butter, lard, extra virgin olive oil, fish oil (mercury free) and organic virgin coconut oil.

Other oils like canola are in fact quite toxic to the body, contrary to what we are often told.

I suggest reading Dr Weston Price's studies/findings and get a good idea of what foods and fats are healthy and healing.

Most people with mercury toxicity have plenty of side effects with ALA, and not so many side effects from DMSA. The weakness you describe sounds like mineral deficiencies. Chelation makes your body lose even more minerals.

JK98 wrote to stop after a muscle weakness so I asked him but everyone can write their opinions.. In fact, I tried ALA more than 3 months after amalgam removal,30 mg,and I felt terrible after it so I'm afraid to try it again soon..

There's some kinds of fasting- with water, with guice and also eating one kind of fruit, like grape. There's argument that the body can clear a lot of toxic in resting time. But also in fasting the body looses ingredients, especially if it just with water. I used to do cleanses and I felt and looked better then after starting all those procedures with amalgam and rounds..But I still had symptoms. In this period, when I took dmsa I felt better sometimes in the round but as I wrote, the problem is when I stop the round..so maybe I have to take more minerals/infusion and lower dosage or to stop it now and to try another detox, like sauna or fasting..

I said stop if the muscle weakness is too great. Expect to get symptoms during chelation. The issue is whether the symptoms are too great to tolerate.

The important thing when using ALA is to build up the dosage and not start out too high, and to preferably use the ALA together with DMSA, as that results in much less severe side effects. Make sure that you don't become constipated while chelating, as this will make you feel very horrible. You could increase your magnesium intake to help relieve the constipation. When I am constipated, a dosage of around 300 mg of magnesium at one time usually enables me to use the bathroom within around 2 hours or so without giving me diarrhea. If that doesn't help, then a cup or two of licorice root tea usually solves the problem. Since with ALA almost all the mercury is excreted through the bowels via the bile, it is crucial that one not be constipated during chelation. Many here tend to get constipated though. I think it might be due to a magnesium deficiency(a much greater than normal need for magnesium. Some claim that some of us need 1,000 mg or more a day of magnesium), or dysbiosis(candida or an overgrowth of harmful bacteria in the digestive system).

I'm also thinking about taking oxy-powder/oxy-cleanse to empty the bowels without connection to taking ALA. I don't think I will try ALA in the close period..

I never tried oxy powder. It seems to be somewhat expensive at $45 for 120 capsules(that is $1.50 for each 4 capsule serving).
I use guar gum for detoxification. I take a cup of water, and put a spoon of garlic powder, and half a spoon of cayenne powder, and perhaps 1/4 spoon ground cloves, some olive leaf extract, and perhaps the contents of two candida clear capsules.
I stir in half a spoon of guar gum, stir it well, and drink it quickly. Around 20 minutes later I drink a glass of plain water(make sure to take in enough water when using a fiber supplement).
